My wife has the same car. The problem we had was mainly the left rear door not locking. Every other door worked out just fine. I looked into it and switched out the “actuator” on the door! It was about $40. This piece will engage and open the car’s power locks. If you are experiencing all doors not locking you may want to start looking at your fuse box first, hopefully is just a blown fuse. Otherwise you may have to direct your attention towards the mechanical/wiring components of your door locks.
Im having kinda the same problem my key fob wont lock or unlock the door and if hear a clicking sound coming from car door even after I changed battery to key fob HELP ME
Having the same issue, realized my right rear door does not lock. Idk manually locked it. Seems okay now. Seeing as I don't drive anybody nor do i have kids I'll just not open the right rear door as I've no reason to use it.
I have a 2013 Jetta. When I use the key fob, the doors all lock. But, what is happening with me, is when I press the lock button, there is not a clicking sound, but I have a buzzing sound. That doesn't happen every time. What is the nature of the problem with that buzzing sound? Anyone know?
2015 Jetta - rear driver side door faulty for me, but just stumbled on a solution to our problem; I decided to drive with the mechanism persisting (doors attempting to auto lock after 10mph) but after a few minutes I pressed unlock while driving then left it alone. 10-15 minutes go by (still driving and at 40mph) and I noticed the doors stopped trying to auto lock on their own. Glanced over and the "locked" light on the button is back. No more problems from my doors. As the other comments mentioned, manually lock your door with the car being off then individually check that all doors are locked at that time. The door that isn't locked is the faulty one.
Same problem. I think I just fixed it. 12/2/18 As others have suggested, lock the car with the remote. Check each door to see if they are locked. In my case it was the driver door that had not locked, all others had locked. Put the key in the door and manually lock it. For me that freed up the locking mechanism and after that it all worked fine.
Nick C , good question. Mine works with the key on my drivers side. It is pissing me off. I know it might be my latch that is messed up. But WTF. this should be a free fix by VW. Cause way to many Jettas are doing it. Or did I miss the recall. 😫😫
I had the same problem with my passat 2012 , the reason for that sound is that one of your doors is not locking , to fix this problem , when you stassion your car , lock your car doors and then try to open every doors and check to see that all doors are locked , and when you find the door that doesnt lock , open the door and look by where the child lock is , you will see a black plastic with a lock logo on it , remove the plastic and you will see a white reset button , you can use your key or a flat screw to turn it to the opposite side , then put the black plastic back , and then unlock and lock your car again , after check to see if the car door locks , then when you drive , the noise should stop , i hope this helps you guys .
I am looking to purchase a 2014 Jetta and I went to test drive one today and it did the same thing! The guy selling it says a lot of Jettas he has sold do that, seems to be some sort of defect. Now the bigger question is How do you fix it???
I have a 2012 Jetta and mine will lock when you get up to 10 or 15 mph. After that sound you should see the locked indicators (the red led lights at the back of each door glow red indicating the door is locked. If this isn't the case then it could be an issue with a door sensor not registering the door has been locked. I have a feeling that one of the sensors that tells if the door is locked has failed and needs to be replaced or if you installed an aftermarket item around the inside of the door frame it could be interfering with or damaged the sensor. Every time I accelerate beyond the 15mph if I drop someone off so the door is unlocked when I take off it will lock again because it senses the door is unlocked, (if i lock the door with the lock button it doesn't try to do it again). Check the owners manual as well because I remember there is a way to customize the door locking feature works.
I had a similar problem after having my AC repaired. In addition to the clicking once the speed hit 10mph my driver's side door would not lock with the key fob or pushing the lock button inside. I ended up reading on a VW forums to try and lock the door with the key and then unlock it with key fob and that stopped the clicking and my door now locks with the fob and switch.
Did the replacement of the master lock switch fix the issue? VW is trying to tell me I have to replace my door latches.. having same exact issue you had.

This is VW auto locking feature just like the person said. I hope you already resolved this problem but for the people who are just now having this problem this might help? With the car off lock the car with your keyfob. Now go to each door and and try to open it. If the car is lock you should not be able to open the door but if you can then that door or doors has a faulty mechanism. Now this is the weird part. If one of your doors is faulty try slamming it shut a few times and I mean pretty hard. After a few times lock the doors again and see if that door stays locked. This happened to my 2011 Jetta and I read about this online and it worked for me.
Jeffrey Berry Slamming my driver door like 5 times just worked on my 2013 Beetle. It started making the same clicking noise this morning as in this video. Thank goodness for Google and RU-vid! And thank you too! Hopefully it doesn't start clicking again...
So basically what is happening here is one of the locks is unable to lock meaning it's faulty. So every time you hit 10mph that Auto-Lock will attempt to lock the doors but fail because one of the locks is unable to complete its function. I have the exact same issue on my '13 Passat and funny thing is I was at my dealer last night taking inventory when it started happening. Still very frustrating that something petty like this would fail.
ShawnTheGreatHD so was it something they couldn’t get fixed or are you just dealing with it because my 13 Passat is doing it. It happened a few months ago then it all of a sudden stopped and now it’s back.
this is your car's auto locking device. your car will auto lock the doors once you reach 10 miles per hr. You have to re set it or deactivate it. Mot sure how to do that yet. But that is the problem. Same issue with my VW.
I think you can deactivate it through the infotainment system. My 2019 Tiguan has auto lock and I can activate/deactivate it through the infotainment system
denise wilson we took it back to the dealership. They had to replace the master lock switch. It was still under warranty so it was free. They had to order it from Germany so they had her car for about a week. They gave her a loaner while they had hers. I hope this helps. Good luck 🍀.
I had the same issue. The default setting is to auto lock when the car is in motion. The problem is that it's trying to autolock but the locks are faulty. According to the guy who sold me the car, it's a common issue on Jettas. I had to get the locks changed. Another solution is to remove autolock and use manual central locking by clicking the button on the door
Hello, I’m experiencing the same issue with a rear door in my Jetta. I tried slamming very hard and it hasn’t worked. Does anyone know the price range for repair?
Thanks I needed this! Just bought a 2012 and mine is doing the same thing plus my right passenger back door doesn’t lock at all. I’m going to try your test idea right now 😁
