My old Polish grandmother used to absolutely hate these skits. She’d get so mad when we’d watch Big Chuck and Lil John when we stayed the night at her house. She didn’t believe us that Big Chuck was Polish himself.
ahhhh, so many good years growing up near Cleveland and watching this show. The Big Chuck and little John all stars came out to our high school and played B-ball with our teachers. Staying up late and watching their show. God i miss it all!
Cant believe I found this, Im in tears! Grew up in a small town in Northwestern PA; no cable tv. We had 3 stations 21, 27, & 33 but on good nights we could move the antenna around & pick up Big Chuck/Little John. This brings back days of being snowed in on cold winter nights warmed only by my Grandma's coal stove watching scary movies with my mom...his laugh is something you never forget. God bless Big Chuck and Little John, thanks for some great childhood memories!! Any1 know of dvd sets???
@drb000 Jay Lawrence is still on the radio in Phoenix (very elderly but still working) and he says they used his laugh for almost fifty years. We exchanged emails about a year ago.
Jay Lawrence on the laugh track. He's still doing radio in Phoenix (left Cleveland decades ago) and says BC&LJ used his laugh for probably forty years.
I just realized they collided with Dick Goddard at :52 !) From all the different opens they used, the B&W one with the gorilla sucking all of the helium out of the Goodyear blimp was my favorite. This is a strong #2.
There isn't a single local television market in the US that had anything like this. Ernie Anderson and Tim Conway (among others) all coming from Cleveland was no accident. Great stuff.
Being from Michigan, but having cousins in Youngstown, I only saw Houlihan and Big chuck about three times. Nevertheless, I developed a great affection for local TV of this nature, and have always thought that local stations should loosen up and let local wiseacres have airtime, especially late at night on Friday and Saturday nights.
