I actually like Derek's playing but I couldn't warm up to the idea of banging and scratching my horn. I could have something like a stomp box or foot tamborine instead of banging the damned saxophone.
John sounds wonderful on his P.Mauriat but he is going to sound wonderful on any trumpet. The fact that he chose P.Mauriat speaks reams about the horn. John can play any horn he wants to but the fact that he chooses P.Mauriat is good enough for me. I love the looks of unlacqered horns because they sound great when you play them.
