An artists eye is individual and unique. They show us things we can never imagine and some things we don't want to see it can simply be a carnival performer or the clown may represent many things to the human psyche. Rejoice in the artists gift and relish the million possibilities!
"if people are not given the tools and knowledge to appreciate it" assumption that people with tools and knowledge will appreciate it - as former Fine Art student I can say that some of it is really degenerate art and shouldn't be praised and put up on pedestal
So the only real difference between Marxism and Anarchism is that Marx believed that Anarchy would happen after the state simply fades away over time and Anarchists believe that the state must be brought down initially?
There is a reason why Matejko had to explain the historical context and the reason for Stańczyk's sadness in the title. Matejko lived many years after the events he painted, events often forgotten by Poles. To ignite the spirit of fighting for independence, Matejko painted these historical scenes and carefully selected them so that they made sense in his contemporary Poland. Hope this helps!! 😊
I've always been the extroverted class clown type. All smiles and good laughs when I'm with friends, out and about. I want to make everyone laugh and happy. I want to make sure everyone feels included in the function. And then I come home. The doom I keep inside locked in a box drowns me. The emo, the pain, the suffering, the suicidal thoughts. The only way I can sooth myself is by listening to radiohead or deftones and sit in a corner in the dark. The doom is always there when I'm with friends, but when I'm with people I can't help but smile. I can't control it. It's my natural smile because I love people and if I smile they'll smile too. I like it when people like me. But I can't help but think what if I just curled up into a ball and started sobbing and screaming uncontrollably. Would they still like me then? When I'm not trying to make them laugh?
To me, it depict a common sense toward the character. His job is to entertain, yet he knows that it is pointless. While the rich laugh and enjoy life. The poor like him, struggles and get ignored.. So, he turn his back to what he despice the most from the reality he is in. This painting really show a rare, but true realism through society and the concept of life.
I believe the clown peers down despondently in acceptance of how things are and what is. It appears to be a time that one would laugh, but no one is, but if you consider it he is the least lonely from all other figures because they know what he is and what he's about, which one can derive comfort from and even connection, but from each other they know nothing. This separation from all others except the jester, who does not appear to want to connect intentionally with others, can make one feel alone in a room of people and might leave them questioning who they are as they are not seeing that reflected in another. Just an inkling.
I am like the clown, since I lost my husband last year, I feel very alone. The perfume L’heure bleue by Guerlain created in 1912 may be inspired the artist.
