Rob and Mark are Apple and tech enthusiasts who like nothing more than a good old muse, moan and laugh about the latest happenings from Apple. Tune in to hear them talk through the latest news, rumours and releases (it's a bit like having a couple of pints down the pub - this isn't Newsnight).
Apple initially focused on hardware and allowed developers to create specialized tools for various professions, releasing only basic native apps to make the iPhone a better standalone device. Their "there's an app for that" philosophy highlighted this approach. What goes into their decision to "Sherlock" a feature? The tension between consumer demands for more robust native apps and developers' desires to maintain their niche markets exists. Balancing these interests involves strategic decisions to enhance user experience while respecting developer contributions.
This episode was a complete train wreck from start to finish. 😂 I suspect the garbled sound occasionally was actually at my end as we had to fall back on the StreamYard audio because my local recording failed for reasons unknown 😩 - Rob.

Totally agree re: BoboVR M3 Pro. World of difference. Get some prescription lenses, Rob. Another huge difference. Then, buy Quest Games Optimizer for increased resolution on apps, games, and the home environment.
Do you think Apple’s commitment to/ obsession with premium materials sometimes affects the overall quality of some products? It’s a strange thought, but hearing what you and other people have said about the weight remind me of their AirPods Max. They are ok to good headphones but their weight is limiting. I prefer a lighter, plastic headphone when it rests on my head and I just wonder if plastic - or another, lighter material - would actually improve the overall product, albeit at the expense of perceived quality. Less relevant, but similar, are glass backed phones. I dislike them and would prefer a more robust back but glass seems to equal premium now. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I’d be interested in your thoughts although there’s a good chance I’m being stupid.
This description In this episode, Rob and Mark delve into the aftermath of the M3 iMac video, exploring the surprising impact it had on the product's perception. They reflect on the challenges and questionable decisions that contributed to the situation, pondering why certain aspects were allowed to be presented publicly. The hosts also touch on tech trends, including the evolution of fitness devices like Vision Pro, sharing personal experiences and insights. Tune in for engaging discussions, a glimpse into their busy schedules, and a preview of the upcoming episodes amidst the MWC weekend chaos. Was it AI generated? In any case, good show gents.
Appreciate thought! Trialling the best way to put together a description for these long shows. What would you guys like to see? Would you prefer a summary of all the topics, or to keep it brief?
So need to find a RU-vid video on the Hans Zimmer car sounds. I adore film music and Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourites. Honourable mention to Thunderbirds.
Can't wait to hear about Rob's thoughts on foldables. Will the expansive screen beat the camera comprises? Is the camera better than the S24 Ultra? How well does it emulate DS/3DS?
Looking forward to seeing the new studio and see how it comes together as you plan it. One of my favourite newsletters. Will there be more behind the scenes about your thought process and plans of how to build/make the space you own? Would be interesting to hear on Solo Club if not MER.
Huge fan of the Podcast and by design for Mark Ellis Reviews. Mark’s such a relateable tech youtuber influencer whatever you want to call it. Keep up the content. Love what you do. Rob is also a good dance partner and plays his co host role well. Loves a good deal just like myself 😜
Apologies for being all dark this week. Also the skipped frames. It’s a steep learning curve, this video malarkey! It’s much easier hiding behind a microphone unseen 😂
Great second RU-vid upload. My only wish is that Rob’s audio level could be increased, and clarify of audio improved as I find it difficult to hear him on all my sources (carplay, home cinema and various headphones). Marks audio is excellent no problems at all 👍 On a side note I’ve visited CES many times pre Covid. Great show very full on but realise your jet lagged which does affect your stamina when you’re walking the miles and miles of the convention centre. Enjoy 😀
I've found stuff runs much faster since I went round updating the firmware of anything that has been updated for Matter. I do have an Apple TV 4K acting as a hub, though, that might help as well.
Yeah, I think many of the reasons I don't like Android are due to Samsung's One UI. If I could install an iOS-like launcher, that would be brilliant. I am enjoying Console Launcher though.
Love the Harry Potter reference of She Who Must Not Be Named. I love asking Alexa for a Christmas message every day. That and advent calendars are a great source of daily Christmas fun.
Tired of Christmas? Sacrilege, Mark. Sacrilege. The trick is to wait til December to put on Christmas songs and decorations (it's very hard) but that helps to keep maximum Christmas Spirit from 1st December to 5th January which is the only sanctioned day for taking down Christmas decorations.
@@actuallyquitenicerob if my name were Siân, you'd have got my gender correct, hahaha! Thanks for the name check though, and keep up the splendid work on the podcast 👍
Long time listener and love the podcast. Appreciate the new video format, but please keep in mind the audio listeners - hopefully just the novelty, but too many references to “like this” and “these” which made the headphones difficult to follow in audio only.
Thanks for tuning in, Matt! Duly noted (and acknowledged on the most recent episode, if you caught that) - will try to be more mindful of this in future!
@@actuallyquitenicerob I did catch the follow up! Rest assured I was still listening, despite not getting to see your spreadsheet even after pausing and switching to video. Thanks for taking my comment in the way intended. Yours truly, audio-only listener.
@@mttmorgn Oh no! I've had quite a few people ask if they can see the spreadsheet. I'll whack it up on Googly sheets and put it in the next show notes! Hopefully I'll have figured out how to share my screen properly in OBS by next time, too. 😆
Nice MM add on (not really needed for Pro MM users) but will help the rest to appreciate the wonder-thing. Good show, like the format. Was that Niall behind the scenes with the camera switching?
Nice one re: the UK free IPTV service. Completely forgot about Freely. Should be nice to integrate into Apple TV and other media centre tech via IPTV apps. Not sure if you can record IPTV though?
Totally agree, Rob re: Mac Mini. USB-C PD would also be cool. At least on the base one. Not sure what the power draw is. But you can get up to 240W on the latest spec. Not seen that in the wild though.
