To clarify some of the confusion. This romhack was specifically made for a streamer named Vinny from Vinesauce. Pretty much everything in it is a reference to an inside joke, meme, or moment that happened on-stream during his many years of streaming. Sponge is a Mario "brother" that he thought up years ago as a joke while playing 3D World that later became popular with his chat. Meat is another "character" that became popular and started out as a meme image from an old MSN commercial. (It's why all those images when Meat ate you looked like emotes... because they ARE some of his Twitch emotes). This hack was never meant to be Kaizo or stupidly hard by the way (Although it goes get pretty difficult near the end). However, it was also designed knowing that Vinny would be heavily using the rewind feature of the emulator in mind since he both would only have about an hour or two to play it and that he's not that great at the game. Oh... and to answer your question about how long it took, it took two years to make, but not continuous work. Eminus started work on it in 2018, shelved it for a bit, and resumed and finished it in 2020.
