GIS is 90% spatial data entry and rarely involves actual fun analysis that solves problems

The project can be one in hundred because in IGS are in different ways innovative models by are in the same module from of electtomotive equation but the can by in a group action equation asking to the force of the survey the tutor told us to do while that has be done according to what the I was told in the lecture quick and I believe some of us as done that but it depends some does and some didn't For my availability of introduction of the project done through the Reference of my work as the leader handle better made individual to know so that I community can innovate us to a better place

My favourite answer when family ask what it is I do: "I tell my boss what it is, where it is, whether he should give a damn about it, and why. About tens to hundreds of thousands of Assets."

Hi, I've been using ArcGIS Pro for geological mapping and mapping geological structures for civil engineering projects and mining/quarry exploitations at an engineering firm. I'm not expert by any strech, i only use it a few times a week, and only the functions i need. But the industry is tiring me down. I was looking into using this specific skill to recycle myself elsewhere. Do you know if there is a lot of demand for people with this skill in non-profits? Do you have to go through Esri's non profit programmes or can you freelance this easily?

So many times I realize I am just making the map they are after and have no idea what they are actually using it for lol. Also sometimes it just becomes a bunch of point lines and polygons on a screen and you forget it is connected to a real world feature. I find GIS work too lonely, techy and computer based for my personality, but I don't really know how to use it to stem into another pathway, but I really want to figure it out. 🥲

What if you’re 58 and want to start a new career. I have learned online writing, html. I currently QA front end of websites, making sure everything works for user. I’m looking to do online training while working full time. Before I went back to school I considered cartography.

So glad i've found your content. So relevant - wrangling data out of the GIS system that doesn't need to be there meets so much resistance!

I kind of picked it up over the years and so my "knowledge" did not culminate in a degree nor is it anywhere near exhaustive. But every field and segment of society can benefit from having a GIS trained professional, whether it's a technician, analyst, developer or cartographer, designer type. It's just a staff spot that needs to be field either by a dedicated staffer or a contractor. Besides demographics, science, weather, urban planning, etc.... ; Politics, journalism and think tanks, activism and business all want to create the maps that the world lives by in order to shape the world. Be ethical and transparent with all your data, backing, sourcing. It's so easy to lie with data and maps. 2 cents.

It's a terrible career. I can't find a job. I've been doing this work for four years. All I've ever found is contracts that pay minimum wage or barely more than that. It's extremely competitive, hundreds of people apply to the positions i apply for. Each posting is different requiring different and very specific skillsets, which further reduce your options when applying. There aren't even jobs to apply for. DO NOT GET INTO THIS LINE OF WORK NO MATTER HOW PASSIONATE YOU ARE ABOUT IT! I've been looking for work for over a year, I've had two interviews in that time. In two months I'll be homeless. I've wasted so much time and thousands upon thousands of dollars keeping this raft of a career afloat. My education was a huge waste of time and money and is nothing but a pit of debt I can never pull myself out of. Don't let the college and university recruiters lie to you.

I agree to statement that people dont understand the technicality of waht we do in GIS. This becomes a problem when we have non-gis project managers for conservation projects as they dont understand the vastness of GIS..

Before I started in GIS I was going to school for accounting and actually took a job on a survery crew for a summer. The knowledge I gained through that one summer on the survey crew has been immensely valuable as I have built my GIS career, starting with a consulting firm doing a lot of city utility work, up to now working for a city doing GIS and Asset Management. I still look back at that one summer as really a building block for my whole career, seeing a lot of the features/assets in the field has help me my whole career!
