Creating great music was his destiny. I think it was wise that he left Greece because people here are so toxic that they leave no space for inspired creativity.
There was a Tony Palmer director's cut that was on RU-vid for a very brief time. It took on a more personal approach and had Demis Roussos interviewed and briefly mentioned Aphrodite's Child. Apparently Vangelis did not approve of the cut, it was reedited and Mr. Palmer's name was taken off. A shame.
There was one part of a Vangelis interview in which he said that when he was sent to piano lessons, since he didn't learn how to read music he memorized the songs. But the teacher noticed later. I saw the 4 hour interview compilation over the course of days, but can't find the specific part.
This reminded me the Mark Hollis who despised the music industry, was forced to do and sing the music he didn't actually want, and when he finally got free hands and did it , then it flopped badly because it sounded extremely experimental. So he just left... Both, Vangelis and Hollis, were geniuses

Wow. If this guy running on _"10% to 20%"_ gave us "Chariots of Fire" and "Tears in Rain", I would have *_loved_* to hear what *80%* would have produced.
he did it, question is do YOU like it. If someone composes music for YOU, you probably like it, but if he composes music for himself, you may not like it.
