It would be interesting to know who built the original 13th century castle. One of the Norman lords such as de Breos I would imagine

The people you call 'romans' are in fact Britons living in the roman way. So please call them Roman Britains.

Yes castle cinema it was called and my aunt an usherette and dear friend Gareth the projectionist worked there for thirty odd years or more untill late eighties and then it was the laser droom, and next the building is to be used for maybe student flats inside the graded building so exterior should stay same, and the castle was used as visible debtors prison, boy if you owed money in those days boy they shamed you, and someone would pay to get you out or not😮they also they showed 1st Jaws film and first indiana Jones film there in cinema to name a few.Building behind BT and the GPO before that I think! 😮

The TV is used as a screen for events in Castle Gardens. Sports, movies (in the summer) and other events in the city. Its not really a bad idea. The Castle itself was victim to poor town planning, poor legislation on preservation of its historical importance and the nazis. Swansea was one of the worst hit cities in the UK during WW2. Its all had its toll on the city.

I'm quite amazed how many people deride the defences of Chepstow. Utter nonsense, in my opinion. The northern flank is protected by sheer cliffs above a wide river, a very simple explanation for the concentration of masonry to the south.

This is a formidable fortress. First you have this massive gatehouse,if you get past that ,you then face a massive tower which looks like its part on another castle. What you have is a castle within a castle.I have only managed to visit this castle twice ,but it blows me away .One of my fav.castles in Wales. Thanks for the video.

My husband and I visited this castle in 2007. The tower was amazing. Standing near it and looking up gave a sense of it swaying. Loved the castle. I would love to see the restorations now. The Great Hall had been done when I was there. The stairway to the soldiers quarters was something else. I am afraid of heights, so it was scary for me. The only support was a rope handrail that moved with steps that were very narrow. I have a photo of me stepping (well, jumping actually 😁) off the bottom step … to prove I had actually walked down it.

The Railway Children 1970. Edwardian Era Novel. Published in 1906. Regin of His Majesty King Edward the VII. One Rainy day at Oakworth Station in Yorkshire. The three Waterbury children sitting in the waiting room. Waiting for mother to come home. Hope Mother doesn't get too wet. We don't want her ill again. Its like being in a sieged castle. The arrows & the bows striking agenist the battlements. Its more like a great big garden squirt. You're a great big garden squirt. Thank you. Stop it you two! There's a train coming. Oakworth. Oakworth Station. Mind you're heads. Its only a shower.

Got to find a tour of this grand old castle that’s narrated by SOMEONE who isn’t so giddy and nitwitted. This was a waste of time.

2:30 It's probably for storage. Anything underground has the benefit of being cooler than the surface. Also, prisoners were often kept in one of the highest rooms in a tower because it was more difficult to escape.
@adamwee382
@adamwee382 Год назад
8:35 wellllll, the architecture changed after the Crusades. Round towers don't have corners which are a weak spot that siege weapons could focus on and potentially bring down. Yes, i'm sure that being contemporary was seen as an important status symbol and may have been the primary motivation for many castle owners, but it was part of the ebb and flow of the medieval arms race.

hiya guys, did you have to get permission from Cadw to film there? im around the corner in Caerwent and want to do some filming there.

Hi Mark. Yes we did get permission from CADW. It's worth having a chat with theme about filming because there are all sorts of do's and don'ts when it comes to filming on their properties with regards to rights, purposes, etc. and of course there is the definite no no of flying drones over their properties. Largely it comes down to whether you intend to use the footage for commercial projects or just for fun. If it's commercial they will want to be paid. Hope this helps.
@markhuckercelticcrossbows7887
@@MostlyCastles Hiya, yes it does help thanks, i wanted a second opinion from some one, i was just gob smacked, when they wanted £150 plus public liability insurance for filming with a mobile phone. cheers mark
