Prior to becoming a Los Angeles based portrait and music photographer Greg Vorobiov was a pro-guitarist working with famously badass artists, from Jimi Hendrix’s drummer Buddy Miles to Jewel, from American Idol judge Randy Jackson to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s band Double Trouble, from Ronnie Montrose to Men At Work singer Colin Hay + many others. Plus he played on the hit TV series Bay Watch and Max Headroom.
In addition, Greg loves creating visual content for artists and companies. His work has appeared in Guitar Player Magazine, Vintage Guitar Magazine, Premier Guitar Magazine, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post, National Geographic - NatGeo.com, No Depression, Guitar Connoisseur, Guitar World, and more.
Greg plays his camera like his guitar, bold and soulful. And if he isn't playing music, the next best thing is to photograph artists who are.

@GregVorobiov For your guitar, did Fender use the Fender Custom Shop Nocaster 51 pickups? Or were they a special pickup handwound for that specific guitar? The youtube videos you've made with that tele are hands down the best tele tones I've ever heard. I have a Fender lightweight ash tele and I'm thinking of installing new pickups. Thanks
I absolutely LOVE Tailgate Troubadour, and have recommended it to a lot of musician friends (and non-musician friends). Thanks for making the download available. I know others would love to hear more music from you, but I understand the financial hurdle. Have you considered doing a Patreon channel for some compensation for your endeavors? Anyway, thanks for your great music and sharing.
I really enjoy these break downs from Tailgate Troubadour. That CD was in constant rotation for years, and I revisit it often. Seeing these videos only adds to my appreciation of your musicianship and compositions. I suppose photography occupies most of your time these days, but I hope you will do more of these break downs. Thanks Greg.
Thanks for this break down. I've always been in awe of your amaaaazing instrumental tones on Tailgate Troubdour...but of course tones are nothing without fine playing and compositions. Love it.
I have either owned a Tele, or sold one and shortly thereafter went looking for another one. I have strayed more than once, but always come back home to a Tele. Always. My main crush is also a CS Nocaster. It's the only "keeper" guitar I have, with no plans of letting this one go.
Way too much distortion for my taste. I was hoping just to hear some dirt ... People go nuts with distortion these days. Of course, this was TEN years ago!
I remember discovering you from TGP all those years ago, namely from the buzz from the Tungsten Crema Wheat demo. From there, I purchased Tailgate Troubadour, and to this day it's still one of my favorite guitar based albums of all time. It's a timeless sonic soundscape, and I've played it on many roadtrips! Thanks Greg for your music. I hope we get to hear more of it in the future.
That's incredibly kind of you to say and I'm grateful for your support and glad you have enjoyed my record! And I still own and love my Tungsten Crema Wheat amp!
I caught a show in Atlanta in '88 at The Metroplex..great show, but not big venue...fantastic performances....btw, who was Allan's drummer for that tour..was it Vinnie Colaiuta?
Hey Greg. I'm a TGP guy and recently discovered Tailgate Troubador when you were so kind as to offer up a link a few weeks ago. Very nice stuff, your ear for tone is top notch. I've always been a Strat guy, but Teles have always had a special place in my heart. Thank you for this nice video on why we love telecasters.
Congrats man!!! Love your music. Is there a way to buy or download the remastered version in a lossless format? mp3 just doesn't do justice to your beautiful music. Also: Will your record on iTunes also be updated to the newly mastered version?
Congrats Greg!!! 20 years! Wow!!! Thanks for making this video and continuing to share your art with this generous free download version of your instrumental masterpiece. Can't wait to check it out all over again :) Yes, thankfully it's not your run of the mill "guitars gone wild" but something much deeper, filled with melody, color and textures that can resonate with musicians as well as non musicians. Love your vision, your art and grateful to know you as the solid & kind human that you are. BTW...for those not aware, the vast majority of pictures hanging in the backdrop are Greg's photographs. I encourage those interested to check out his photos as well. They're a wonderful addition and extension of his wide creativity.
Greg, I love this record. Bought it when it first came out. Still play it. I really enjoyed playing with you, a loooonnngg time ago. Me and Baldie-Ray were just talking about you when I saw him a month ago. I try to follow you on YT. I look forward to hearing new music from you.
I bought the original CD when I was 20 years young or something, had it shipped to Belgium and listened to it a lot with my girlfriend, now wife. I still love that album, I had no idea the intention behind it was so low key.
Bought your record a decade ago and I still love it musically and also still listen to it sometimes. Thank you for sharing the remastered version. You got to make a living as everyone else. very kind regards from one of your fans from Germany
Thanks so much! For me, it's best if I pay for any recording budget instead of crowd funding. I know many folks do involve other folks $$ in the recording process but I prefer to keep it simple on the business side. I do appreciate you interest in my music so thank you very much!
20 years already! Congrats Greg. Your album always inspire me to play. Definitely one of my prefered guitar works. I can listen to Bend The Dusty Road "en boucle". I first got to know you with your work around Bogner amps and was instantly blown away by your musicality and virtuosity. And as I can read from the comments below, I'm not the only one to think so. Thanks for the remaster. Hope to hear more from you sooner than later. Cheers Mr. V!
Congrats for the 20th anniversary of your album! And, most of all, thanks for your awesome music and stunning visuals, both always inspiring and true forms of art!
I have the original CD. You always hear people pick their "desert island" albums... if I could only pick ONE, it's Tailgate Troubadour. I hear something new everytime I listen to it. It's a masterpiece. "Cinematic" and "sound pictures" is a great way to think of it.
Thanks for your generosity in sharing your work! I purchased the CD When it dropped not really knowing what I was in for But soon found out I hit the jackpot! Congrats on the 20th anniversary! All the best to you & yours!
Oh wow! I remember buying that CD many, many years ago and really enjoying it tremendously. I must have lost it in a move somewhere, so will look at getting another copy. Any chance you will release this album on vinyl at all Greg?
Love this record. And it’s the only instrumental guitar music that my wife likes, so we often have it on on in the car when on long drives on holiday. Congrats Greg!
Hello Greg, what about a kickstarter campain for funding a new project? For example I would rebuy this 20th anniversary edition so there might be enough people around for it!
Thank you very much for the support and crowd sourcing idea. I'm kinda old school where I prefer to pay for projects out of my own pocket. But, I'm grateful for all of your support and interest in my music!
Many times when I hit a creative block, I'd play Tailgate Troubadour and be reminded not to overthink my playing - just go with what I'm feeling. Thank you for making this album and for the remastered tracks... but especially for the years of inspiration!
