I was asked to be in ABC Crew (that's what they actually called themselves, not ABC Breakers,) but I lived on the Big Island during the school year. They called themselves ABC, because they used to practice at the ABC Store on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki. They are way better than they looked (that floor is waxed, and too slippery for the hands to push off of, etc.) They got way better 3 years later, and were the best in the state.
Grew up watching this. Prob the only thing I can remember when I was 4 years old living in Hawaii. Had this on VHS and used to watch it over and over when we moved to Florida. Grew up watching it.
I saw a Break dance final in 2012 when I was still young enough to still able to do a windmill, it was some of the worst breakdancing I've seen in my life...i thought at 40 I could have won.
For break dancers doing it back in 1984, I thought they were pretty good. Can you name a video on RU-vid (Not counting clips from movies like Beat Street or Breakin') showing dancers who did more difficult moves in 1984?
abc breakdancers amazing, and the trio who did those windmills into long backspins, both two guys got the crowd higher than most acts, i forget their name, amazing.
Can"t believe I found this! So many memories of this place...back in the 80"s though! I worked there when Roger Mosley was regularly there...RIP brother.
Just in case anyone was wondering about this... Great list although I would add: Wizards B-Boyz Crew 1:08:54 While their choreography could use some work, the degree of difficulty of their moves were impressive. Some of their power moves were ahead of their time, like something you would see at the 2024 Paris Olympics such as no handed windmills which morph into shoulder spins and culminate in a freeze position along with flairs that morph into leg swipes. And that's gotta be the first Hawaii woman to execute a flawless barrel mill in a break dance competition.
Was stationed at Schofield, spent many of nights at this club! Remember seeing Tupac there before he was on death row..he was just chillin no security or nothing.. what a time!
