This will always be my favourite Beach House project. I find myself picking a new favourite track on every listen, which is such a fun experience to have. A masterpiece, an instant classic and a rare 10/10 album. I have to say that the most addicting part of the album for me is the two track run between ‘Wishes’ and ‘On the Sea’. ‘Wishes’ feels like the ultimate crescendo of the album. The most full, rich and momentous instrumental (and vocal) within the project, followed by ‘on the sea’ being almost the sonic opposite without ever leaving the universe this album builds is something I crave listening to over and over again. Lyrically they are both incredible, and I almost feel undeserving to have ever come across these songs in the first place. I find myself watching every reaction video I can find of this album, chasing that feeling I had during my first ever listen again. It’s an absolute treasure and your review was so in-touch both sonically and lyrically on your first listen, such a great watch. Thank you.
One of my favorite albums in recent memory. So happy to see you checked this one out. A recommendation I have, if you haven't heard it already, would be Animal Collective's EP 'Prospect Hummer' with Vashti Bunyan. Has her hopping on a very different sound. And if you wanted to make the video more worth your while, the accompanying LP to this EP, 'Sung Tongs' ,which is not with Bunyan, is also a classic, experimental, modern folk masterpiece!
Glory of the Snow is a flower. It’s called this because it’s one of the first flowers to bloom after winter, even growing through the snow. Throughout the song she keeps anticipating someone that isn’t in her life anymore. She ‘pulls on the string that binds her to memories of the way i loved you’, she’s letting go of the remnant/final thoughts & memories of this person. She sings “glory of the snow, in waking up and now i know” because she’s transitioning from a metaphorical winter into spring.
Biscuit is kinda my favourite music in the world. You have said it right, that bass is everything. In my language, bass is spelled the same word in English for severe, harsh, or a serious injury, disease, situation, consequence, so may I be over romanticizing over a particular coincidence, but that compressing bass is like a heavy weight of a severe something, i cant let go of that feeling. Also, brass and winds sound to me as sad laughs or if not sad, by one that is losing sanity or capability of feel, like... That burst of exciment, enthusiasm express by a involuntary laughter
@@shyuperc 100% agree broke it up with new cinematic level sounds lol, also agree about the string side being more enjoyable than the more guitar heavy side, I’ll Be Right There gave me the most LP vibes.
I thought the same with the T-T-T bar in either on or off the drugs. I think you're right, in Scaring the Hoes he had a reference to a CSGO scandal with a player named Forsaken. That's niche gaming knowledge. He just like me fr.
@@OriginalMrocco Yeah its on Kingdom Heart Keys. "Like forsaken bitch, stay off screen" At first I thought he was talking about the game that released around that time but "stay off screen" clearly applies so much better to the Forsaken MS word cheat lmao.
Don’t rely on other men was mixed differently for the album version. He even changed the start, though it’s easier to notice the earlier changes if you compare em side by side. That aside, fun vid
Great album, the self titled and 3rd are both as great also. Massive attack is worth the listen. A great unknown trip hop artist out of Georgia is Sunday Munich Vinculum. Never got big, but is a solid album all the local DJ's listened to.
I suggest if you liked the production, check out Leon Michels and his bands other collaborations for example his excellent album with Black Thought, Glorious Game from last year. Love the content btw, keep it up man
