FRED & Jambo are on a mission. They meet up almost once per week to record a podcast episode and reduce a work of art to mere numbers.
They rate films in 9 different areas and then take the average. Scattered throughout the rating process are games played. Tune in to have a chat about films, greatest of all times, stinkers, blunders, movies which are overrated, movies which they overrate, and always leave your thoughts for all like minded film nerds to chat about.
That's so kind, thanks Becky! We had a lot of fun chatting about this one lol. If you enjoy hearing people talk about exasperating films, check out our Furiosa review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T72e2VHq-P4.htmlsi=Nk6M84Nk46_mx_zt Fred
Heya Ingrid 👋 She'd have left before becoming a Nazi I reckon... though would she have got out 🤔? Here's what we think would have happened if they didn't escape to Switzerland: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jcHe70S0cGk.htmlsi=hK43cjd2tB00du_0 Reckon we got it right? Fred
Well, here’s my thoughts: he’s a career man. He wants to make the Tangier as big as possible. He’s a professional, the best around at what he does. That’s always driven him. The conflict then is between him and Nicky. Ace wants to (sort of) go legit, Nicky wants to take advantage of the lack of organised crime in Vegas. Actually a really cool bit of conflict that I was 100% invested in and makes an excellent film. Since the Nicky and Ginger affair never amounts to anything, the ginger element becomes superfluous. I wouldn’t mind but it’s also infuriating to be audience to and has no material impact on the gripping Ace/Nicky story. It can be scrapped and the film then also happens to become a more palatable size at the same time. What do you reckon? J
I know the concept of a relationship with a woman MIGHT be a foreign concept to you guys, but there's a little known trope where a (usually attractive) woman ends up being the downfall of a powerful man with money. He makes exceptions for her, he turns a blind eye to her *usually* obvious flaws and issues, and everyone around them notices it but him. Now whether or not this makes it a better or worse movie is up for debate, but it is a very common trope, and I don't really think it flies in the face of Ace's trust issues.
Nah I understand it’s fair enough their relationship happened, I just wish I didn’t have to sit through it!😅 Casino was a top tier gangster movie with an almost entirely separate romance plot which made it way too long and was insufferable to watch J
What would the movie be without Ginger? What would Vegas be without the show girls and hookers? It would just be men sitting around the table playing poker and various sorts of scheming away from the table. What would male society be like without women for that matter? A long slow slide into death and darkness.
Ah I didn’t mind the callbacks but yeah the cgi for Rook was atrocious. We’re going a video on it very soon feel free to come back and check it out 👍 J
A lot of fun, thanks guys! Loved Star Wars and Pink Panther match-ups! Dave says he'd like to hear your top ten incongruous pairings of iconic soundtracks to scenes 🙏🏽
Ah hell yeah great to see you James! Yeah was clearly going nowhere with the fighting. Fun at first but repetitive. Hopefully they eventually end up recreating that original iron man magic one day J
Dude, there’s no way. A fully grown gorilla (or an orangutan) like you’re describing (430lbs) or shown in the movie, would injure the back of even the strongest, stockiest of draft horses, though they typically have longer backs, which is another issue of weight distribution. Drafts are known for their pulling weight, not their carrying weight. The Clydesdale can comfortably carry hundreds of pounds, but not galloping in the snow. lol
Nowadays "The Silence Of The Lambs" is problematic because of how the trannies react to it. I always loved it both as literature and as a movie but the boy-girls now will claim it hates their community. I'm waiting to find out if "Red Dragon" offends somebody.
Yeah that's a whole box of frogs we will leave well alone. The only question that concerns us is how good was this movie and what is the one thing we'd change about it ... any thoughts?🧐 J
You guys, I was cracking up the whole time watching this. I have repeated ALL of those lines, over and over, for years now and felt like I was sitting there with you. Right on with every minute of this. Great delivery, by the way!
Brad that's freaking awesome of you to say thank you so much, I'm really glad you liked it. What's the winning quote for you? I feel like it changes every day for me haha. J
@@MateNight You're welcome! I love that you guys rank TA among your favorite comedies of all time. Right up there, for me, with Spinal Tap, Life of Brian, Raising Arizona, Being There, and only a few others. For best line (very difficult to choose among the plethora), years later, I still grab my wife by the shoulders, yank her around to face me, and faithfully repeat in dead earnest, "I promise I will never die." And we both burst into laughter as we recall the music, the sunset, Gary's wide eyes, and the best love-making scene in cinema history bar none. However, I'm surprised you guys didn't rank my other favorite line: "This isn't about sex, Gary, it's about trust!" nor "Now get yourself cleaned up..." Nonetheless, my hat is way off as I bow to your brilliant delivery, discussion and selection of the others. (And don't get me started on the breathtaking brilliance of the craft that went into every damn visual detail!) Respect!
Yes absolute shout I found it so hard to turn that quote away! Was always a favourite moment the first time around. Problem is there’s just too many top tier quotes. Brad it means the world that you said that thank you very much. I really hope you drop by and say hello on a future video - I will keep an eye out for you 🫡 J
This video was actually really hilarious! I was not expecting that at all!!! Y'all have me crying 😂😂😂 and honestly the voice impersonations were on point!!!
Ah no way thank you so much Carol that’s awesome of you to say! He’s not half bad at them is he 😅 if you have watched Team America World Police he did a funniest quotes game with a similar energy if you wanna check it out 😎 We Found the Funniest Line in Team America ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4fPtKgOQHe4.html Appreciate the kind words thank you Carol! J
I think we can't discount the idea that he might burn down his whole house, with or without the hostage/dog inside, in order to hide as much evidence as possible.
A good question. Hard to get inside the mind of someone like Bill. But, with Clarice dead, I think he would know the jig is up and sacrifice the dog, or at least negotiate in bad faith. It would devastate him but his survival instinct would override it. He would definitely attempt to preserve some moth chrysalises if possible, as well as what he had of the suit, in his car as he left.
Yeah defo think you're right about the moths & suit, he'd easily have time. The dog is a whole different box of frogs though... I guess on the one hand if you're capable of brutal murder then letting a dog die seems plausible. On the other side though, it looks a lot like precious is his only companion, which could be something he would be unwilling to sacrifice. My guess is that you're right though. I think he burns it to the ground as quickly as possible, starting the fire in the basement so it causes maximum damage before the fire brigade arrive.
Oof great shout - he's doing another one at some point I'll suggest it. I see you subscribed a couple months back just wanna say that really means a hell of a lot so thank you! J
Jordan Peele seems to have smoked a bit too much of his hype, that line makes 0 sense XD. Horror is horror, it could have comedy in it sure but the differences aren't so subtle as to make that statement. Anywho fun vid but the premise is just wrong.
That's a big take to say it doesn't matter! Every detail matters in cinema. If everyone speaks like they're from a completely different place, you might as well put the Eiffel Tower in the outback 😅 J
Yeah, the displaced accents are totally weird and ruin it for me. It’s ridiculous. Same with Ridley Scott’s Napoleon (Joaquin Phoenix) … with a San Fernando Valley accent.🙄
Taking your suggestion at the end of the movie, I thought of the following: The knife has initials on it. In the end, the conversation has an ending scene-the same conversation as in the movie. Then, Juror 8 lights a cigarette just before heading out. The lighter comes into focus and shows the same initials as the ones on the knife. Juror 8 exchanges a glance with the old man. Juror 8 smiles. Cut. You can add a very intense end scene if you make it short, very close-ups like in a Sergio Leone movie. Maybe it would work nice if it was Juror 3 in the end, but well.
Wow 👌 Obviously both suggestions COMPLETELY change the audience's understanding of the events they've just seen. My only issue with my suggestion was that perhaps a twist ending is too heavy handed, but the initials on the knife would be such a subtle touch. 👏 Thanks for sharing Fred
F*** it, I gotta go watch it again. Such a great movie! Can't wait for the sequel "12 Happy Blokes" where the accused is clearly innocent but one of the jurors manages to convince the others to sentence him to death anyway <3
Hahaha - is that you, Mel Brooks? We've got a ''What if' segment scheduled for today that pitches a different film where Juror no.8 is evil. Might be up your street lol Fred
You’re 100% right it’s a plot hole. Theres no way she was in the citadel since she was 10 and ended up with charlize’s perfect american accent. Probably charlize couldnt do the aussie accent either and they decided to let her & max have their own accents to stand out. If there had to be an in universe reason, I think the only possibility is she got her hands on a walkman and some books on tape narrated by americans, which she listened to 1000 times. AND she intentionally tried to sound like the tape and not like people in the citadel who she hated
Aha yes this is exactly what my in universe reason was too! Although I didn’t think to add that furiosa changed her accent intentionally, that would be needed you’re right. A single plot hole is always forgivable, but people keep saying that she emigrated during the apocalypse which seems bonkers to me haha J
Hard disagree. Maybe those things could have happened if these reading apes who were audience to human tech were never confronted with war and migration. But reading and writing has limited applicability where spoken word works in a small community, and where human books are not both accessible and comprehendable. Reading would be a low priority next to rebuilding homes, gathering food, and staying ahead of the next winter. It seems very likely it would be lost after a generation, especially when so many older apes had been killed. Also, these are not helpless beings dropped onto earth with a perfect model to follow left behind by humanity. These species survive day-to-day just fine without much technology, just like humans have all the way up until current day in hospitable environments. Lots of people around the world live not too terribly differently than they did 100k years ago, because they can. It takes special pressures (not so great to kill you, but great enough to force innovation) to change an entire society that was otherwise getting along fine. We come up with better ways of doing things all the time and those don’t get adapted simply because changing culture is so hard, most people like what’s familiar, even if that’s dumb.
Hi Sarah, I appreciate your perspective, but I think there's a critical aspect to consider regarding the challenges of living in primal societies. The daily struggle for survival in such conditions isn't just about managing with less technology; it often involves significant hardships, like the loss of family members to preventable illnesses or extreme weather conditions. Moreover, while rebuilding homes might indeed be a priority, the knowledge of how to construct durable shelters isn't innate. Primitive structures can offer temporary refuge but face inevitable destruction in harsh conditions, underscoring the value of more advanced building methods. This brings me back to the point about the apes in "Planet of the Apes" possibly adopting reading and other advanced human practices. Such knowledge could significantly enhance their survival strategies, transforming their ability to build and maintain safer, more enduring habitats. In essence, while societies can indeed function with less technology, the benefits of advanced knowledge-spanning medicine to construction-should not be underestimated, especially when it comes to improving quality of life and survival odds in the long run.
Right mates, cause there haven't been any yanks flooding into Australia for the last 40 years? Including *checks notes* the star of the first 3 Mad Max films himself being an American transplant who adopted an accent?
Sounds like i wasnt too clear wirh my complaints, apologies. To be honest, my issue was more with the claim that there would have been so much American migration to Oz AFTER the apocalypse - which is what Miller had said in the interview I read. Doesn't make much sense to travel that distance after the demise of society... The bigger gripe, though, was having a character that was born and raised in Australia have an American accent (Furiosa) - can you think of any reason for that? Some of the other commenters might have had the right idea with this when they said it's better to just not think about it lol. Fred
Charles Dance would've been amazing. Could've renamed the emperor Tywin in the process. Christopher Lee would've been my second pick if he were still alive and healthy. Only problem is he wouldn't be able to get up those "goddamn steps smoothly." And no, I haven't read the book, but I could see what kind of emperor character they were going for.
Good ranking. you’re definitely not going to agree with mine 😂 but I guess I just prefer the first 2 films, despite the lower budget and cheaper production.. I genuinely believe they are the most raw/accurate portrayal’s of Mad Max that we will ever see. 5. Beyond Thunderdome 4. Furiosa 3. Fury Road 2. Mad Max 1. Road Warrior
😂 Thats so different to Freds haha! You know the more people I speak to the more I realise how beloved the original film(s) were. that low budget charm I guess and such an original concept. Also mel gibson what a guy. You put furiosa/beyond thunderdome at the bottom of your list: did you like them and they're just 4th & 5th of a great franchise, or were they a bit of a fail for you?? J
Both! There just my least favorite. Beyond Thunderdome near the end of the movie feels like a Peter Pan Movie at times lol. And I felt as incredible as Furiosa is.. It just didn’t add anything we needed to know. It doesn’t make sense imo to do a prequel. I would of rather seen a sequel. And a proper continuation of the story after Fury Road. But since it bombed at the box office.. I don’t know if we will get one more film.
Oh man everything is bombing in box office at the minute, bad time to start a channel on film ha. I get what you mean, I think he said he wanted to change the pace a bit but Fury Road was a hit so why bother? J
