this loco was supposed to be on a 10 year loan to this railway, now i hear it is going back to the NYMR who didnt want it not so long ago! to be converted to oil firing, crazy, why not leave it at paignton and convert something else as well as the british WD they are also converting to oil.
can they please get rid of that annoying metal plate behind the whistle, literally prevents it from giving a full SAR Chime blast, they had it on 130 for ages too and removed it
Nicely done! Any idea on what gauge? I wanna say 2ft... Also, that thing moves pretty slow, and I do agree that the diesel motor revving reasonably high inside a steam-outline loco does kinda spoil it abit. Ah well, its a railway which is a good thing either way!
So on these journeys you don't have to get on at the start? You can get on at any station that allows it? I always assumed they only visited the stop destinations while the loco was refilled with water/coal.
@@ph4ntomtr4in most stations allow it provided that if you are not intending to travel you leave the station once the train has left. Most station staff are reasonable enough with it, there have been a few times that rules have been broken and nearly has seen photographers told to get off the station for trespassing past the signs. But these steam tours do often stop for pathing allowance unless it’s to stop and pick up joining passengers for the charter, which is normally the case. :)
Glad you enjoyed the railway. We have some very nice Garratts, that take way too bloody long to cleaner (Boston Lodge cleaner here). I've never done the Harbourmaster in the carriages, so don't know fully what F - set is like, but it should be the same as E set. (the first and last time I did the Harbourmaster, I was on the loco with a footplate pass with the driver you had!)
It was a lovely experience, my partner and I are looking forward to coming back again real soon for more travels on both the Welsh Highland Railway and Ffestiniog Railway. :)
@@Bovine_of_the_Rails Glad you are planning to return, as we need passengers to stay alive. I mostly stay on the WHR due to my height and love for Garratts. But probably in the next 10 years, you might see me firing on their, if they deem that I'm good to start training.
i do love how the Garratt dwarfs absolutely everything, Palmerston looks especially silly next to it to the point where i wondered how they are the same Gauge when i first saw a picture
A truly superb video thank you! Your presentation and videography (together with your editing) were superb…I watched in fascination and admiration! I hope you bring my Great Grandchildren to ride on the railway soon…I took their parents to the Seaton Tramway when they were children themselves…so next on the list is the Beer Hejghts Railway! Best wishes from Rob in Bournemouth.
I'm guessing this is Sunday due to the lack of rain. I went on Saturday and was lucky enough to drive the Fowler Showman's engine around the arena. It's such a good show with a huge variety to look at.
It was indeed, I was gonna go on Saturday but was visiting friends in Exeter, so decided to go on the Sunday instead this time. Was a really nice day, got to have ago at steering the steam roller in the afternoon which was nice. :)
Seeing the models well-maintained now makes me really happy. They've previously been treating the models like toys. These aren't just Thomas models, these are THE Thomas models.
Even though I HATE the way Drayton Manor handles the props, I must say, they don't look half bad. Especially the Edward replica! Seriously, I hope they keep the old chap safe.
It appears they've been trying to take steps in ensuring these models are properly maintained for once. You love to see it, and I hope they continue to keep this up. Cause the state of these models a few years ago were just unacceptable and were practically falling apart. Some unfortunately still have some pretty big glaring issues that need to be resolved.
Awesome video. This almost makes me think of Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway. They also had a small blue train on passenger duty. Personally I'm not a massive fan of steam outliners. The sound of the diesel rumbling just ruins the illusion for me.
seeing Judy in steam brings back the memory of helping to return her to steam. I can remember traveling behind Alfred on brake van rides at Thomas the tank engine events
Seeing morons on bicycles squeezing between a building and the moving train on an area clearly marked as a danger area. Darwin Award entrants! Probably claim that no one told them not to go there.
