Knitting podcasts and educational knitting resources to make your knitting life easier and more enjoyable.
Hi! I'm Jessica! I design simple and beautiful knitting patterns. This channel is a place for me to share my knitting process and knowledge with you all.
I have knitted cables several time, however, I cannot decipher the cable charts on a new pattern. There are no written instructions. I have reached out to the pattern maker, but, clearly they only do charts. Help!
This is such a fabulous video! You have a really lovely voice, and you make this process easy to understand. I really appreciate how you explain why you're doing things!
This is the most in-depth and easily understandable explanation of a sweater I have every seen in my life. It has literally everything you need in one video. Thank you so much! Other videos had me so confused especially with the German short rows!
Thank you, I've watched so many "magic loop" videos and never been able to "get it", but now I do. I really appreciate your video, now I both saw and understood exactly what to do with my yarn when I started knitting.
Thank you for your video. I'll make better choices next time. For now, I'm dealing with superwash fingering. I was ready to scrap it, and return unwound skeins. I will continue and consider it a learning experience. I bought one of your patterns and will make a better yarn choice. Thank you so much and I will share your video. I've been knitting 20 years but very little stranded items. I immediately stopped catching floats.
It is easy to show on already big knitted cloth, when doing the first row, IT IS TERRIBLE I CANNOT GET MT FIRST KNIT TO JUST FUCKING STAY ON MY DAMN KNIT NEEDLE. YES I am pissed bc I've been trying to learn knitting for 2 weeks now!
The only reason I can think of is the sunlight can fade the colors of the yarn. I put my sweaters in the sun sometimes. I’ll even put them in the sun on my deck in the summertime. The only thing I’ve found is that they dry faster.
So it's like crochet when you increase in the round! 😮 that's easy to remember. I'm a beginner knitter and doing a raglan sweater. I'm doing the yarn over to increase. :)
You stated you were buying a sectional. I have had a sectional. You will have a lot of seating that way however it has been my experience people do not like to sit on a sectional. People sit on the ends and the space in the middle is all wasted space. It is better to get a couch a love seat and two chairs if you living room can handle it. Even with a couch people only want to sit on the ends. Couches are nice because people like to lay down. A love seat is great because you can sit and knit and have your things spread out or have a child or two sit with you. Kids often like to sit on a rug on the floor.
Love your video. So far you are the only one who has explain about stretching the stitches after knitting first stitch with new color. My tension has improved so much after watching your video. Thanks so much!
For my RH, I use my middle finger the way you use your pointer. That way I can wrap the stitch without having to let go of the needle with my RH. I use my pointer finger to wrap the yarn while the remaining fingers hold the needles…if that makes sense Thank you for the tips on stretching the stitches on the RH needle. I feel that is the one thing that will greatly improve my colorwork!
Hi Jessica, I've just popped over to your website to read your blogs etc and pattern info. THANK YOU ! For mentioning the yarn description for Australia & NZ ! Your the first designer I have come across that realises your worldwide customers don't always understand the terms, DK, worsted, fingerings etc. It really gets confusing doesn't it 🤔. So thanks again, I certainly appreciated the additional information. Cheers, Kim 🦘🐨
I'm wanting to start my 1st colorwork sweater. I know this is a good one to start with but I wanted to know if you thought 1 weight was better than the other to start with? Sport or worsted?
Depends on how fast you want it to knit up. Worsted weight will knit up much quicker than the sport. Other than that, the decision comes down to 4 bands of colorwork in the yoke (sport weight version) or 3 bands (worsted weight version.)
Thank you so much Jessica for sharing your wonderful work I have some of your patterns but like you time goes against but I’m now doing a different job so I’m looking forward to casting on 😊😊❤❤❤
I am looking for a class with demonstrations on mosaic knitting; stockinette flat, garter stitch flat, stockinette in the round, and garter stitch in the round. I did enjoy your class on colorwork, especially discussing what yarns are best to use in colorwork and why. Thank you from another busy homeschool mom!❤🧶
Jessica, I am so happy to find a knitting blogger who has her family as her first priority in life. Thank you! Your sweater is beautiful! If I understood you right you suggested that one should always knit a pattern in the original wool, why would that be so important?
She said original weight yarn because having a worsted weight pattern and then using fingering weight yarn instead would give you different results. If you are one who won’t blame the designer for it not turning out and having to frog the project then you do whatever you want to do. But many people complain about the design when they use completely different yarn. That is the person knitting the projects fault not the designer.
Long story short, the sizing gets completely messed up. There is a lot of information that I share in Episode 48, so watch that one for the full answer.
Fletching is beautiful! Could you please tell me what gauge is required for the worsted version? I just knit a sweater (non-colorwork) in the Highland at 4 sts/inch on US 9’s and love the fabric and ease of knitting at that gauge in this yarn.
Thanks Jessica! I really appreciate your videos and patterns! I am learning colorwork and each project gets a little easier and more satisfying. I stopped catching floats this year and it has helped simplify the process. Thank you immensely! Beth from Idaho Falls
Continuation of previous comment the first colorwork was in sw and it turned out ok but the tension was off and it didn't lay nice the sad part was it was a teaching class. But now I feel more comfortable in trying the hat again but with didn't yarn. The yarn does make a big difference between making or breaking a project.
What a great video! This was sooooo helpful. I don’t enjoy colorwork because i didńt like catching the floats and I wasn’t spreading out my stitches. Thank you for a very helpful video. ❤ 🤗
Hello Jessica, I've been knitting for several years but this is really the first time I've discovered such a good and effective way of explaining Jaquard with superwash and not super wash wools. I watched your video yesterday and I'm already talking about it to everyone I come across and to whom I teach knitting. thank you so much, my next project in Jaquard is Ruska (in my knitcompanion 'just wow' ) I'm sure I'll be using your technique. thanks again and I look forward to sharing some time with you in you next podcast
Nope. You only have to stretch the stitches when you have the floats running along the back. Regular knitting with just one strand does not require this
