Peaceful life! Right ahead! RIP Mr. Fleet. This video made me feel sad for this poor man. How proud he must have felt on being a lookout for such an exquisite ship! Your story of what happened to him after is very sad. I am glad he is at eternal peace!
How realistic these ideas were and how close they came to fruition is unclear. A lot of these ideas came before the wreck was found and so had little idea of the state or depth of the wreck.
Another quality video. I hope Duff-Gordon is fully vindicated some day soon. Lies, half truths, and fabrications can make or break reputations. It makes you wonder if all the heroes in history were really heroes.
Except that's not true. The conspiracy theory you are referencing is about some of the wealthiest people in the World, including John Jacob Astor IV, Benjamin Guggenheim, and Isidor Straus No evidence of their opposition to Morgan's centralized banking ideas has been found -- Astor and Guggenheim never spoke publicly on the subject, while Straus spoke in favor of the concept.
Im going to Belfast South Hampton to see the Titanics museum but where's the Clock itself within the Hole been to Alnwick hotel had. The rest if. The staircase Railings etc and. Parts of the 1st class lounge and smoking room
Glad she was saved from the scrapyard, a shame what that restaurant owner did to her though. Such an ugly conversion, and hearing she got partially cut up hurt.
@6:30 -- Actually, they recreated the Titanic's launch (in computer-generated animation) from the photo stills shot during her launch. The 2005 movie "Titanic: Birth of a Legend" also recreated the scene of Titanic's launch but screws it up by showing the A-deck enclosure in place. I've seen photos of Titanic' launch and the A-deck enclosure was definitely NOT in place until Big T was transferred to the (en)graving(?) dock. Heck, the ONLY surviving film footage of Titanic PRIOR to her discovery pans over the side of the ship (in the graving dock) and the A-deck enclosure isn't in place. As far as Titanic's launch film is concerned, it DID exist at one time. It was likely destroyed after the sinking, lost during file shuffling at Harland & Wolff, OR possibly destroyed during an IRA bombing in Belfast during the 1970s. No one's sure what happened to this film.** Frankly, I'd bet on the first scenario. Likely, H&W didn't want to be reminded of their worst failure. The launch film of the RMS Britannic does still exist. If you wanted to see what the Titanic looked like (minus A-deck enclosure which was probably already in place during Britannic's launch) during her launch, the Britannic launch film is what one should watch. Britannic was painted like Titanic at the start of her life. ** Suggestions and observations by Paul Lee, UK Titanic historian.
Again, as previously stated, at no point was it mentioned that Titanic’s launch was not recorded, simply that, as of today, no footage of her launch is in existence that we are aware of. Only stills. This portion simply points out that as Olympic was first of her class, more emphasis was put on her launch than that of her sisters. I am more than aware of the numerous “recreations” of her launch, both in computer generated imagery and documentaries. I am also aware of Britannic’s launch footage as well as the footage of Titanic in dry dock 👍🏻.
“No footage of her launch exists today” today being the significant word. I never said footage was not taken, simply that whatever footage was taken, for whatever reason, has not survived. 😁
Oh joy - another episode! I discovered your channel only a few months ago and binge watched every episode and was thrilled when this popped into my feed today. I love your story telling of this most fascinating subject and very much enjoy the topics you choose, always delivered with your special brand of humour! This is a topic I never tire of and appreciate the hard work and efforts in research you undertake to deliver each episode for our pleasure. Thank you!
I think it doesn't help Sir Cosmo's case in modern times when a popular animated series (Fairly OddParents) has a co-lead character ALSO named "Cosmo" who is a complete moron! 🤭 [The weirdo on the popular sitcom, "Seinfeld," is also named COSMO Kramer. Yeesh! Sir Cosmo can't get a break in pop culture!] But, yes, Duff Gordon got a raw deal because of a moment when he made a dumb remark. Then again, Lady Duff Gordon didn't seem like she was all that bright at times, too...
Titanic studios is in the Titanic quarter located not too far along the road from the Titanic hotel. If you step out of Titanic hotel onto Queens Road. Turn left and follow the road it’s on the left.
For me, it's not that he jumped aboard the second-to-last boat to leave the ship. It's not that he was who he was, but his actions and those who he employed to more or less hunt down the survivors of the victims and the survivors of the sinking that irk me. The ones who went into the hospital rooms of those who were still struggling with their mental wellbeing withe regards to the losses they incurred. I mean the insurance people forcing these people to sign agreements for such a small pittance to what they lost that night. Mostly the widows and those children who lost a father. I don't begrudge him the right to survive, I begrudge him and this methods in the aftermath.
Another brilliant video! How do you not have more subs? I find every single episode fascinating and so well done. Glad you are recovering from your accident. Can't wait for Epusode 10! Be well.
Another great video… I wish you had more of them and I know you can if your subscriber base goes up… as it should. I’ve sent your channel to a number of titanic accounts telling them to watch - you make it really come alive on such a personal level. Do you have a Patreon?
If I had been on Titanic, I would absolutely have joined them in that lifeboat. Would definitely try and get a few others to join us. Call it an adventure.
@@circusvano6394respectfully…according to the video all those folks were already dead when he offered the “bribe”. So what was he trying to get? I don’t like disparaging people when there is no evidence.
The Duff Gordons bought their passage on the lifeboat. £5 given each to crew to replace lost kit. Rubbish .... With only 12 on board When It left the sinking ship and no attempt was made to save anyone from the water . With room in the boat for 45 persons It seems very suspicious 🤔 He, as a 1st class male he should have never been allowed in the boat When so many people died Including women and children. Now with the crew in his pocket and in his favour, he was in charge. He took the Cowards way and saved his own skin Whilst others died. If It was me,I would have made my way to the smoking room ,ordering a few stiff drinks and waited for my fate.
