Welcome to my van dwelling channel! I embraced #vanlife in February 2018, moving into a Berlingo mini van (about the smallest vehicle that qualifies as a van) when Cornwall was gripped by a snow blizzard (the profile photo was taken the day I moved into my van).

Now, as I write this in May 2023, I’m still living in my tiny Berlingo. I’ve set about the task of breaking free, living an independent lifestyle, earning a living on the road. I’m also setting up a small wildlife charity that I also plan to operate from my van living nomadically.

You're welcome to support me by buying me a coffee: www.buymeacoffee.com/stevejwildwriter

Personally I am a little gutted. Only being selfish. I watched and funded some of your videos because I love the Isle of Wight videos. It’s a shame that there is less content now and in the future. I understand you need to work and do things you need to do . But for one I am not sure on the new title 8:14

I think keeping to your brand “Cornish Van Dweller” is fine and sensible (as you are becoming mentioned elsewhere), but with a descriptive suffix as appropriate. There are loads of examples of channels that have moved on from what their original name might suggest, but they presumably want to remain findable as their reputation grows and they become talked about.

I love these videos around Ventnor,as I attended St Catherine’s school from 1969 to 1972. I remember we used to walk some of these rds and every weekend we’d be going for walks on the downs….. lovely happy days . I visit the island at least once a year with the family and visit an old freind in Shanklin….so thanks for reminding me about my happy school days and maybe you’ll make a video walking down Grove rd past my school??🙏🏽

I've had some thoughts about your becoming a bike dweller. There is a van dweller who occasionally parks across from my house. He is only a bit noisy, but is generally discreet. Had I someone camping with a bike and any form of tent across the street, I would be much more alarmed for hygiene and cooking/camping smells. My neighbours would probably phone the police. So your available places to spend the night might be quite limited.

Great to see Portland! I was brought up on the Bill until the mid 70s, where my father was involved with the Bird Observatory (starting when Frank and Beryl Clafton ran it, though latterly had a lot to do with Martin). The Obs pond had a notice dedicated to my Dad, Keith (don’t know if the notice is still there!). Helen Brotherton was a family friend and it’s lovely that the “new” fields are named after her (a very generous benefactor of course!). I need to get back there soon; thanks for the prompt!

Hi! I am an American that spent most of my childhood holidays on the Isle of Wight. My grandparents lived on Ocien View Rd. Across from the Fish and chips and St. Albans Stairs. Do you have any videos walking down Ocean View towards the town at all? I would love to watch. When I was 6 I broke my arm outside Mills Bay and had to walk all the way up with my brother holding my arm in place!

Nothing goes to RU-vid, but I think 30% goes to Buy Me a Coffee, which is a different company. So not great but I guess they do need to make money somehow. A better way too support is via my PayPal link (also in my video descriptions) which takes a smaller service fee. It's a pain but someone needs to do the processing unfortunately.

I Love your videos of the I.O.W. I was born on the Island in 1955 lived in Shanklin and Ventnor went to school in Ventnor miss life there very much for most of my life. Parents bought me and three siblings to NZ in 1963. I.O.W will always be in my heart. Last house in Ventnor was up above Wheelers Bay and used to wander all around there, while my parents ran a guest house on top of the cliff. The house itself had a huge look-out at the top which ran right round the top story and one could watch the boat race that was held from Cows. Sad to see so much of the Island falling into the sea and so many buildings left to rot. My lovely little Island.
