MSA 6000 Color Palettes: We have had several firefighters ask about the other color palette options on the MSA 6000. There are several options for the MSA 6000 plus or extreme model. However, the other options other than Black Hot are not recommended for high heat or fire environments. “It is important to note that in the standard manufacturer preferred color palettes that Black Hot is immediately after White Hot. This is dangerous! A firefighter who is lost and disoriented could accidentally select Black Hot color palette and start crawling towards a dark/black area falsely believing that this is a cold area when in fact it is hot. For this reason, we recommend not having black hot as a user selectable color palette option.” Many manufacturers add various color palettes to their fire service TIC’s as “options” without properly explaining their intended uses or limitations. According to Dave Lee from FLIR “Not all color palettes are well suited for every situation. In fact, some color palettes can even make your job harder or even hide what you are looking for” (Dave Lee. FLIR Delta). All the color palettes are all non-fire ground application-based color palettes apart from White Hot. The remaining color palettes are designed for low temperature and low contrast environments to provide better detail. They could be used by trained thermographers if the device published the the color temperature colorization or if it was the colors/isotherms were adjustable such as industrial thermal imaging cameras. However, fire service TICs are qualitative in nature which means they provide thermal patterns and display “apparent temperatures” which are estimates. They are grossly inaccurate due to this and are much hotter than we realize. For example, a single candle flame can be over 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit, yet our fire service TICs show these large fire environments in ranges up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to this information, many of these color palettes provide colorization that saturates the screen with no discernible details for the firefighter in high heat environments which will make it very difficult for the untrained eye to interpret. Please see the following video that demonstrates this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KKypBtZsTp8.html Please let us know if you have any questions.

@AndrewStarnesFire 3 месяца назад
We have numerous videos on our channel demonstrating cooling the door prior to entry. This concept was introduced by firefighters overseas. It is called "3-D'ing the door". This article explains it briefly. It is merely a technique used to decay or inert fire gases briefly as the door is opened to limit or prevent immediate fire growth.cfbt-us.com/wordpress/?tag=3d-firefighting&paged=2#:~:text=Control%20the%20Door%3A%20If%20the,you%20maintain%20control%20of%20it.

Look closely inside that room. Notice how the flames still exist. That turns that and other rooms into a steam bath. You can't Just Squirt water; you have to surgically apply the water to eliminate combustion quickly and do it in a safe manor. This was created through Two-Dimensional Reacting, not Three-Dimensional Thinking!
@AndrewStarnesFire
@AndrewStarnesFire 3 месяца назад
That is not how this nozzle works. It is actually two nozzles. From working with it for over 5 years, we have tested and demonstrated its results. The inside nozzle sends a broken stream to the ceiling knocking down the fire while the outside nozzle uses air from the 9500 cfm hydraulically ventilated space. It extinguishes and simultaneously ventilates removing smoke and gases away from the victim. Please view their website to learn more as viewing just one video doesn't demonstrate the power or fully illustrate why this nozzle is being used around the world www.fireengineering.com/apparatus-equipment/hydrovent/#gref
@JB91710
@JB91710 Месяц назад
The water going invwas not Surgically applied and allowed the fire to continue burning. If you just focused on putting water on the burning material, the venting of gasses out the windows would continue naturally.

Why make firefighting so complicated? You are wasting precious tank water. Just stick it inside to soak the burning material. The added pressure it creates will Push the smoke and heat out the window.
@LindaFirefighter03
@LindaFirefighter03 7 месяцев назад
They are demonstrating that by doing the opposite you are creating a LOW pressure inside the room which suck in air from the rest of the structure into the fire room which COOLS it. Cooling it drops the temps and pyrolysis decreases. Look at the drop in temperature recorded by the TIC. It dropped from the 900sF down to 200sF. That alone increases the survivabililty of possible victims in other areas of the structure. It also helps to not push the fire and heat into the structure. Not to mention the decrease in water damage in the structure. I forgot to mention it also decreases the available oxygen which is the Oxidizing agent in the fire tetrahedron.
@JB91710
@JB91710 6 месяцев назад
How come I have never seen this in use in 15 years of studying these RU-vid fire videos? Put an adjustable nozzle on a tight cone and soak down the burning material. The gasses will still exit the window, and you will use half the water.

Armchair firefighters will do anything to throw away new tools for the toolbox. Yes, obviously this will not be used for every single situation, but having the ability to hydrovent without needing to make entry saves a lot of time, and can also make conditions a lot more tenable for interior teams. What’s wrong with that?

Given the operational specifications the operational limits are 500F for 1 minute, 302F 5 minutes and 1,022F max range. During testing did you have any issues with high temperatures or durations? With training environments it would be helpful to learn the device but given the temperatures in live fire exercises I’m worried about overheating the device especially if purchased with personal funds.
@AndrewStarnesFire
@AndrewStarnesFire 8 месяцев назад
That is a valid concern. In standard firefighting and fire training we haven’t had any issues. However, if you work above the fire as a safety officer for VES or as a live fire instructors who is seated in a high heat environment we don’t recommend it for those purposes. In general, if the camera is overheating so is your PPE at that point.

Hello from Poland! I'm a volunteer firefighter, and this film is fantastic; it opened my eyes to the world of thermal imaging. Currently, we use Flir K2 and recently acquired the Scott Sight Pro. Do you think investing in Scott Sight was a wise decision? In Poland, we work with a firefighting hose, so firefighters need to have their hands free. A camera like Scott Sight allows them to navigate better (known as a situational camera). I couldn't find any content on your channel regarding Scott Sight. Will there be any material discussing this camera, such as interpreting the imagery?

The difference between situational awareness and descion making is that situational awareness is always being continually aware of your surroundings and what is going on constantly watching for any hazards as things can change such as the fire spreading or burning building eventually collapsing at any time and by being constantly aware of your surroundings you can detect any signs of hazards such as seeing the fire spreading or seeing the burning building showing signs of potential collapse such as smoke or fire coming out of walls or floors or being below floors or creaking or cracking noises in the building which could give you time to warn others about what is happening and evacuating the building before it is too late. Descion making on the other hand is making descisons on what to do on the fire ground and how to safely fight and extinguish the fire such as by deciding to do a defensive operation because the burning building is either vacant or abandoned or has a light weight construction which could cause a structural collapse or if there is a danger of a flashover and ordering firefighters inside a burning building to evacuate due to a danger of a flashover or structural collapse such as if the roof or walls or bottom floors are on fire or if structural supports are on fire and then fighting the fire away from the building and away from any collapse zones.

At what temperature does the Lunar start to show colourization? I watched your video about Edge Detection in high heat overwhelming the image so I switched from default edge detection to the next mode...standard TIC mode? and warmed up a stove element and I wasn't able see any colour. There isn't a lot of information online regarding the thermal imaging part of this device. We are lucky to have one on each of our frontline packs paired with the Flir K55 for our officers but have never had any training on either device other than the basics of turning them on. I'm developing a program for our department and appreciate your videos very much.

It was a training scenario, they moved in, knocked it back, and then reset so the next group went. In the description, we explain why this is not a good way to train firefighters. The lack of water application while moving up the stairs doesn't improve conditions and the training to "not" extinguish the fire creates more problems than it solves.
@southernknight9983
@southernknight9983 Год назад
@@AndrewStarnesFire [The lack of water application while moving up the stairs doesn't improve conditions ] Why would you "apply water' while traversing up a flight of steps and not in LOS of the fire? Wet steps would be a slip hazard for everyone involved. And it appeared to me that they did apply water to the fire, once they are in LOS to engage it. The video just doesn't make any sense to me and neither did the description. While I know how to fight fires, I am no fire fighter. So I guess it's above my pay grade. lol! Cheers!

Amen. Thank you for sharing Chief. Each of the videos you share provide that visual takeaway on how to do it better. The clarity of the TI in this video is really nice. It was interesting to see how much heat was at the top of the stairs. Yellow colorization from floor to ceiling. Even more interesting is how much heat the nozzle firefighters PPE absorbed in this drill even though they were only in the space for a few seconds and flowed water. Hopefully the firefighter in the video gets to see the fire in IR and then gets the chance to flow and move and see the difference.
