i have a recumbent just like yours. added a front wheel motor and it flies. you do a better job of driving...i wobble all over the place due to the small wheels (before i added the motor). i ma 78 and love the trails.
@@JandLBikeRides oh, I liked it. It was just the beginning was fast and you couldn't see the houses very well. The rest of it was just fine. I grew up in Layton and rode my bike across the bridge and thru the tunnel hundreds of times. We climbed all over that hillside and explored a small cave that used to be to the left of the tunnel. The Good Old Days!
@@deborahcoliny2891 not sure if you knew this but the bridge and tunnel will be gone soon. They are putting up a new bridge and filling in the tunnel. Come and ride it one last time before it’s gone forever!!!
@@JandLBikeRides I know they're getting a new bridge sometime in this century. They've been promising one for years. I heard they're going to close off the tunnel and old bridge not get rid of them. Right now they are doing a few million dollars of repairs to the bridge so I don't see a new one coming anytime soon.
At or near Star Junction P&LE had to have had a line or planned line down to reach Brownsville where SPRR was also to be located to connect to P&LE Brownsville line as it P&LE also operated the Monongahela Valley Railway also.
SPRR also was to use P&LE from Garrett to get from the eastern portals off the 3 Allegheny tunnels to run down to Garrett as Vanderbilts had control of the P&LE RR for Vanderbilt's to access its main lines at Youngstown & Cleveland with also using the Indian Creek Branch to of B&O to bore tunnel in hillside opp. White Creek in Connellsville from U.S. 119 across from KFC to reach Wheeling VA now WV.
As you leave Homestead the GAP is completely different than it was during the Homestead strike of 1892 when Henry Clay Prick I mean Frick caused deaths at the Pump House. When you get to Costcos the P&LE hugged the Monongahela River Side passing the remaining blue sheds to Port Perry Trestle to cross to Edgar Thompson Works. Today as we at the Carnegie's Union Trestle to Carrie Furnace the P&LE also crossed it over to the wye where B&O line was cut out to Deadmans Hollow where the B&O was forced to build the last newest trestle over the Youghiogheny River to connect to its mainline at Long Run Creek. The South Mountain Railroad in that area if finished would've completely changed that area as it was to come off Irwin Turnpike Interchange down PA 48 by coming off Irwin Interchange using eastbound new lanes for Newer U.S. 30 to where the railroad passenger cars are in North Versailles. SPRR was also to come down PA 48 in part to service behind Giant Eagle at Rainbow Gardens Amusement Park now Shopping Center on down to cross over to points of wyes to B&O and P&LE.
There also was the Ewell Branch, Downer Branch as they crossed new PA 51 that line went behind Subway and Hotel to Star Junction At Star Junction the Washington Run Branch cut across PA 51 to lead to the trestle in you video.
That was the P&LE's Washington Run Railroad Branch that came off the mainline from Whittsett as wye lead up to what you saw may remains of the KIER child's Fire Brick Company. southeast of where swinging bridge is or was.
Hey James, Thanks for the info. I recently saw an old picture of the bridge with a train on it. It's funny you wrote this comment soon after I saw the picture. Thanks for watching our videos
Hi, I enjoy watching your rides on various trails, as I live in and around the Pittsburgh area and ride many of the rail trails as well. I also film them with my action camera, but I don't post them on RU-vid or any other site. I just archive my videos for my personal use and for friends and family to see. For the last several years I have used a Sony FDR X3000 as well as an HDR AS 300, to record my rides, because of the optical image stabilization makes the footage really smooth. Both cameras are very reliable, despite many publicized issues. I don't use 4k, which usually uses more battery life, and might overheat, so I always record in 1080p 60fps. I use the vivid color mode, as well as in medium field of view, instead of wide. I have seen these new insta 360 cameras and like that they have a larger 1 inch sensor than most other action cams, which allows for better low light footage. I was wondering what settings you are using on this new camera? Which resolution do you record in? Have you tried the horizon lock, which is a nice feature, especially when it's mounted on a bike helmet, which is where I have mine at. I've seen other reviews of the Ace Pro and most are positive. One thing I will never buy is a Go Pro brand cam, as I hear they have more issues with them, besides I like buying a brand that is different than what everyone else has.
Thanks for sharing your ride. Well done. If you want to be truly horrified, read about the great flood in books by either David McCullough or Al Roker. What an astonishing event!
One of David McCullough’s finest works was on the Johnstown Flood, a must read for sure! One of Pittsburgh’s bridges is named after this Pulitzer prize winning Pittsburgher 🤓
If you haven't tried pawpaw ice cream, you should make some. We weren't able to get any pawpaws last year. Found lots of trees, but no fruit. Maybe this year. Thanks for posting the bread recipe. I'll have to try it.
Hey Angie. Thanks for watching my other videos. Most people don't know what Paw Paws are. If you don't find any this season, reach out to me and Laura and we will share. I never tried the ice cream so that's a must this year
