Longtime college music theory professor retired in 2017. Don't let anybody tell you what to call your pieces, they're yours. You can call this a symphony if you want! For some reason I would like to hear it in three beats per measure instead of 4, did you try it that way?

Very nice! The up and down scale-like movement fits nicely with the fact that it's an Etude. If you're open to advice, I'd recommend adding more to the left hand, and letting the right hand play less when needed. For example, continuing the scale-like theme, you could play a sort of mirroring tune on the left hand, with your right hand taking the role of the single notes. This will give the piece a depth i think will help you achieve more!
Cool piece. The half notes in the beginning in the left hand are confusing to read. Write a dotted quarter tied to a dotted eighth, and then another dotted eighth. We usually only ever see sixteenth notes written like how you have it when it’s played on an upbeat, but this is a downbeat.

@@Danielsmusic-rv6mu but there are many rules to follow when writing a fugue: structure, parts management, harmony, counterpoint... Even the fugues meant as actual pieces follow many of these rules. Have you ever studied Gedalge's and Dubois' treatises?

@@Danielsmusic-rv6muonly twelve?! You're very young! My comments weren't a mean criticism, I just wanted to point out that knowing the various composition rules and structures is crucial. Keep up the study and bear in mind that having a good teacher is important. I started composing when I was 13 I guess, now I'm 18 and I've undoubtedly improved a lot mainly because of my teacher, who gave me the fundamentals and the right materials to work with such as books, composition exercises and analysis of major pieces.
