Thank you for your comment. If you want the elastic snug, I would measure the elastic about the width of the box, maybe add 1/2 inch to it. When you are doing the top stitch at the bottom, then you can tuck it between the two fabrics. I hope that works out for you.
Thank you for your comment! The marine vinyl I got was from JoAnn Fabrics and it was 54" wide. It can be pricy but you want to get a little more than you need. You should measure your cushion the width, length and height of cushion. For example the cushion is 30"x44"x6"... the width would 30" plus 12"(2x the height) = 42". the length would be 44" plus 12"= 56". That is the size of the cushion, now you need to add at least 3" all around for the tacking. The size is now 48" x 62". For that cushion because the vinyl is 54" wide, that will cover the width of the cushion but the length will need at least 1 3/4 yards of fabric. Again, I would probably get a little more just to make sure it fits. Good luck with this project.
Thank you for your comment! I used to have a retreat cottage that quilters would come to and they used the neck warmers all the time they were there. When they left, it was easy to remove the cover and wash them for my next guests.
Thank you for your comment! Just remember to heat these no more than 2 1/2 minutes at a time. You will find that the rice over time may burn a little and you will smell it. If this happens, open the rice pouch, empty it, wash the fabric and then refill the bag and you’re ready to go!
Really excellent instructions. I have a friend who is expecting and I made one of these for her. Turned out really cute. You got me, I'm a new sub. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! ♥
For anyone doing this a piece of advice replace your boards and cover them in fiberglass resin that's mixed with 5% acetone so it's easier to work and take longer to cure because Thompson water seal only last one year fiberglass resin last about 15 years also don't forget your spray adhesive to tack your foam to your boards so it doesn't move around when you're trying to put on the new vinyl.
Thank you! It is a nice way to use recycled materials and also use up some of your scrap fabrics. These are great for young kids and older adults to hold their cards.
Thank you for your question. I have used both of them. The 16 foot tape measure from Home Depot had a thinner tape and that is what I use first. Then I got a longer tape and it was a little wider. I think I prefer the thinner one for the small snap bags, but it you are making a much larger one, the thicker tape measure may work better.
I was just browsing through RU-vid and I came upon this tutorial. It was awesome and it is such a great idea. I have made many of these rice bags or bean bags over the years but I have never seen how to make the outside sleeve. Almost like magic. Lol
Thank you!! I had a crafting retreat in California, and it was easy to clean the covers for my guests. Also, when the rice or beans start to burn and they are hard to use, I remove the old rice, wash the inside cover and the outside covers then replace the rice. I appreciate your comment!
Thank you so much for having a voice worth listening to, so many videos are way to long because they keep repeating what they have already said or done. I also liked that you put the Fabric Sizes and type of Fabric we should use. I was able to snap a picture of all the different directions. I'm actually going to make one today. Thanks Again. Keep Crafting!!
Thank you for comment. I think while using directional fabric, I would take the pattern that I have on the video. Cut the pattern and add 1/2 inch to the places where yo cut it
Where you cut it. Then you can place the fabric in the direction that you want. The sides and the ends will be in that direction. The only thing I can see is the top may not match up. So another thing you can do is cut the ends off the pattern, so now you have the top and sides. Fold that piece long ways and cut the pattern in half. Add 1/2 inch to that cut line for the fabric. Now you should be able to place the fabric the way you want it the direction needed. Sew those pieces together and you should be able to continue with the rest of the pattern. Let me know how that works out for you.
Thanks so much for your reply! I was thinking along those lines too! I am going to fold the pattern in half and add a seam allowance, and cut out two pieces of the fabric so the design is upright on both sides. I will send you a picture when I get it done!@@jaddascraftcottage6335
Also, wouldn't it be nice to put the cotton fabric throughout the towel? Would that work? Or would it be too thick to sew terry, cotton, and binding throughout the entire piece?
Again, thank you for that question. The hood, towel, and binding, especially around the hood has several pieces of fabric. Yes, it may be thicker (around the hood) if you add the extra fabric on the back. I’m not sure if adding the fabric on back would make the towel stay smooth after washing it, unless you do some quilting on it to make sure it does not shift around.
Thank you for your inquiry. I am planning on doing a video that is for a child 4 and above in the near future. I will work on directions for a toddler. I will let you know.
Thank you for your question! The terrycloth is the towel. You can use a regular towel to make this, but if you go to the fabric store you would ask for terrycloth. I hope you make a few.
Thank you for asking the question! I will be a video making the eye glass case and may alter a few of the measurements. These are what I have on this case: Outside fabric =14” x 4 1/2 “ Lining and cuff= 18” x 4 1/2” Batting = 14” x 4 1/2” Ribbon for the pulls 3” Tape measure 3-3 1/4” I hope you make a few!
