You can chose wether to use the glas or not, but if you use it without, the heater is more effektive.

I have a problem I hope you will take the time to review: I bought a Wenzel Petromax clone. It got clogged. I removed the generator, and the rod inside it. After replacing the tip, I cannot get the rod to "catch" on the throttle, so it won't go up and down (making the wire tip go in and out of the little tiny aperture), so I cannot use it. Any ideas how to get the internal rod to "catch?"

I had a flame problem with my dietz no2 blizzard kerosene lantern. It uses a wick, no pressure. It worked fine two nights. Third night flamed up. Didn’t know how to put it out. Can you help me with this? What did I do wrong. It’s an old lantern I got at an antique store. You are the only one I have seen dealing with flame ups. Please help.

I experienced this in extreme cold. Extending the preheat time is necessary and your pressure drops Very quickly during preheating. Mine is old and may need pump rebuilt making it even more fun. Rebuild kit was cheap but procrastinating.

Don't burn the mantle indoor as you would breath unhealthy smokes. Moreover you should have used alcohol in dedicated cup instead to gently consume the mantle.

Actually too much pressure is more likely to cause a flare up as the fuel can be pushed through too fast for it to vaporise. I am assuming paraffin/kerosene is the fuel being used as venting Coleman fuel/white gas which has a very low flashpoint would be a really stupid and dangerous action for the user and downright irresponsible to advocate it to a wider audience. Regards Broadlander.

or at least there is potential for kaboom or issues.because that air pressure you just relieved should contain flamable fuel vapor

Kerosene as this lantern burns hotter and has lest to no smells, also Oil base mineral spirits. Some Kerosene and Mineral Spirits have odorless you can get at Lowe's or Home depot or other stores.

This will burn multiple fuels. Is there a 'favorite' to limit smells and or maximize run time?

Its worth noting that you must not release pressure if you're using gasoline as fuel...
