Welcome to Andy's Art Lab. My name is Andy and I have a strong interest in art and design.
I have had an interest in art and design all my life but my path lead me down a technology route. A couple of years ago I started down a path of 3D Printing and digital art and NFTs. I am now venturing back to being creative with resin and Acrylic paints.
follow along with me on my journey as I experiment and create art.
I would go with a fast curing resin if possible or an art resin but once mixed wait for the resin to start warming so its thicker to then quickly brush on. I have done this with a 3d Printed plastic stingray. You can brush it on your clay figurine but gravity will still mean that it runs to the lowest point. An alternative is that you could make a silicone mold of your clay figurine and that way you can make multiple copies in resin using the silicone mold you made. I recommend checking out Robert Tolone's channel that shows you how you can make a silicone mold and then make resin copies. www.youtube.com/@RobertTolone I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
I wanna look into this as a hobby so thank you so much for setting aside time to make this video. I’ll be sure to set aside time to stay updated on your channel😁
No problem at all. I'm glad you found it helpful. Let me know if there are any specific questions I can answer as I'm happy to make videos explaining how things work or how to do different techniques.
Beautiful work man. The song almost made me swipe past though. Personally I like hearing voiceovers from the artist on their process and story of the piece. If I’m your target audience, I would recommend changing up the sounds/voice overlays to see what works. If I’m not, all good. I don’t normally comment at all, but I also don’t normally scroll past something this good with only two likes.
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time to provide me feedback. There is a link on the video to the full version with my voice over and the process/motivation but I think the link blends in a little so it's not that obvious. Music is a hard one, I picked a popular song being used but music is so personal and everyone has a different taste. I might make another version of this short with a voice over and different music. Thanks again for the feedback I really appreciate it as it helps me grow as a creator.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes you can use a roundover bit. It will leave a dull strip where the excess epoxy resin has been removed so you will need to do a flood coat over top to get that shinny finish.
I have tried sanding and using something to cut the edges but, it obviously doesn’t have the same sheen on the surface on the edges now. How do you recommend fixing that? A buffing compound and wheel?
Thanks for the question. The easiest way is to actually do a thin flood coat of resin with the item out of the mould. Do this with it up off a surface eg on paper cups. You will need to cover the bottom with painters tape so you can easily remove any resin drips that may run off the edge. Ideally you want the top of the item you are making to be on the bottom of the mold. That way you can use a deburring tool to remove the sharp edge and it doesn't matter if it's a little dull as no one will see it as it's not visable being the bottom of the item you have created.
It's not failure mate, it's research, i've done a lot of it ;+} For my 10cm diameter 5mm deep round coasters i use 0.2g of mica powder and it gives a solid colour, but with thin, surface coatings we probably need 5 times that, i haven't 'researched' it yet : Power to ya bro, liked and subbed :
I 3D printed these adjustable height support feet. They work really well to level your artwork. I found with having a silicone matt the feet stick and it makes it easy to make small ajustments. www.printables.com/model/920145-adjustable-height-support
crinkle of the vinyl wrap and put it on the bottom of the resin before you pour it that will help with bubble and holding the plastic down, thats what i have seen done i have never done it lol but i watched a person do it anyway
Hi Jeanie, thanks for your comment. That was exactly what my next project was going to be doing 😁 I'm just out of deep pour resin so waiting for payday so I can buy some more. I wish Resin wasn't so expensive!
@@AndysArtLab yeah it can get expensive i usually buy it in those kits when its cheaper and i get extras lol i don't feel so bad then lol..i have never tried deep pour though lol
I used epoxy resin in this video with a sheet of vinyl plastic. You can see the full video here how I did it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NoFgjK9yFb8.html
Good to know that you come from a long line the teachers and your wife is a teacher. This is typically something you see women do and share but I guess I'm not going to be annoyed that you men have managed to do it once again
Feel free to ask any questions Robin and I will try to answer them. I also have a FAQ and blog posts on my website andysartlab.com that you may find helpful.
