Theology is changed and modified to fit one’s own cultural identity. That is Tribalism by cultural racist division. It is not theology. It is sociology. RC Sproul talked about this change from the study of theology to the study of “religion.” This made up Race Identity through intersectionality is the study of humans and humans talking about their own individual ideas of their god.

The problem with this guy is that he conflates Asian Americans with Korean Americans. He further fails to understand the the cultural dynamic where Koreans think they are better than all other Asians, just as Whites think they're better than everyone else. Even further, gender plays a significant role as well in terms of how Asian Americans are treated. Ultimately, this guy isn't necessarily wrong about his diagnosis of Asian American issues as it relates to the church, but his thoughts and solutions to these problems are too self and emotionally driven. I'd encourage him to think about these things biblically without interpreting everything through his own trauma and experience. It's a difficult thing to do, but it requires submitting to what the text actually says about these issues and utter reliance on the Spirit to illuminate those truths.

Lastly, from personal experience....in my 2nd gen group that grew up and got married from my old church....some 30-40% of them intermarried...mostly with chinese or white. I've found that in just 1 generation, nearly 1/3 of korean-canadians intermarried and their families are muliticultural so they don't attend korean churches anymore or even korean american churches. They tend to find just a church. We also have to account for the amount of people that dont marry and have children which is quite high as well. So after all that pondering, I realized, how special it was to live and grow up as 2nd gen because I once thought it would always exist but now see that it was such a rare and unique pocket as it won't happen again. Our children growing up will be much influenced outside of the korean-american context and their children even more so....so I see ethnic churches as just a step to the general wider church will all ethnic church generations by 3rd, 4th generation will eventually slide into. 2nd gen. is here and gone. The new immigrants of whatever countries coming to America and have children will just recreate another 2nd gen wave again but smaller each time as immigration decreases from Korea at least....but other countries are increasing in immigration so there would be a huge context for 2nd gen arab americans or 2nd gen (enter african country) context, Indian 2nd gen etc...
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x 5 месяцев назад
Being a 2nd gen myself, born and raised in Canada, growing up in Korean churches in the 80s and 90s, serving and becoming a leader, into the 2000s, I also came to the realization that 2nd gen Koreans (and I'm sure this is similar for any other 2nd gen of other nationalites), is that we don't fit in both in the country we were born in or in our native country where are parents came from. We're a foreigner so-to-speak in both homes. Though we may be American or Canadian citizens, we look different, we are visible minorities and always having to live under the majority of culture/identity of someone else. This creates a 3rd demographic pocket. While I am Canadian, and I am Korean, I am neither fully both. I am in the 3rd pocket of identity which is Korean-Canadian (or Korean-American for those in the US). But the further I pondered about this and look into the future, the more I realized these 3rd pockets will mostly likely be short-lived meaning....they won't be as prominent a fixture in just a few generations down the road. There will be less and less of a 3rd pocket demographic simply because majority of the next generation and the generations that follow will continue to intermarry and eventually people will not identify themselves as Korean-America since they will only be 1/8th or 1/16th Korean and have 8 other identities blended. So they will just drop the identity and consider themselves as "American". In essence, whether we are talking about any 2nd gen (Korean, Japanese, Italian, Haitian, whatever) the further down the generations they go, they will just dissolve into the general population which will be just "American". New immigrants that arrive will continue to recreate the ethnic church and another 2nd gen but much smaller in size as the amount of immigrants is much less now than it was back in the 60s or 70s....less Koreans are immigrating since Korea has become a prosperous nation to live in. But as those new 2nd gens are being born, the "original" 2nd gens will be down in the 3rd or 4th or 5th gen and probably well integrated and mixed into multicultural churches or just church...we don't call it multicultural so much anymore down that far because everyone is mixed and it's just a church. But closer to the immigrant generation you'll still have ethnic churches and 2nd gens. But as I said, this is short lived and almost a temporary phase before entering the general wider demographic. If you look at the "white" people we call them today, they only identify themselves as white. But if we looked at their genealogy, we'd find that they are technically 4th generation french, british, dutch, swedish, spanish, polish, scottish, but they don't identify themselves as a 5th generation or 4th generation this and that... they are mixed by all the european nations in america through intermarriages when scottish married an irish or british married a german and their offspring married each so their offspring are like a combination of 4 nationalities but by that time they don't hold onto their identity as being 1/4 german, british, scottish, irish....they just say they are now "WHITE". This phenomenon would be no different to Koreans or any other ethnic group that give it 2 or 3 generations from now the children will just identify themselves as American. A great example would be to look at a lot of the offspring of mixed Korean and White couples who are now in theirs 40s or 50s and have their own children. They barely hold onto their korean heritage or identify themselves as Korean. They know they are part korean or have some korean heritage but it doesn't define them. They live simply as being americans. So that is one way it will go. 2nd gen Korean-American or any other kind of 2nd gen is not a long-term bracket. It's short lived in the grand scheme and while there will still always be some portion of Korean Americans that may still hold a Korean American church 100 years later it will not be as prominent as we think. Even the Koreans that immigrate to the US in the year 2100 to create another 2nd gen, might not actually be korean ethnicity arriving since Korea by that time will also be multicultural....so it will get quite complex and complicated when you start getting ghanians who are korean immigrating to the US as Koreans but with Ghanian roots so are they going to identify themselves as Ghanian-Korean, Korean-Ghanian Americans? lol. It will get so weird.
@dimedropper

I don't want to come off dismissive, but I don't think any of what you said really matters. In the end, the root of the issue comes down to feeling less, feeling inferior as Asians. We need proper parenting and proper education to kids to ensure that they are proud of being Asian and feel confident as human beings. These issues were a byproduct of bad parenting, but rightfully so because 1st gen parents came to this country with nothing and were only in survival mentality. You think Eastern Europeans come here hoping to one day identify as American? No way, because they don't feel inferior. They don't even care. By the way, they aren't even accepted culturally by western Whites. Teach our children to be proud of whatever race they are born to be, that no race is better than the other, instill confidence, and we don't have to get into all these genealogies and interracial dynamics conversations.
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x 5 месяцев назад
While it is good to grow multicultural churches, it is not good to tell ethnic churches they are being racist, prejudiced or homophobic. Ethnic churches have a role and place in the Kingdom purposes and plans. I never liked it when "multicultural" churches or people look down at non-multicultural as if they are somehow inferior. Multicultural pride is still pride and nobody should be criticizing or looking down on anyone or any place that isn't multicultural. It's the same thing with interracial marriages. There is this sense of "superiority" that mixed race people or families will sometimes carry around with them because they see themselves as "new", "novel" and "trendy"...way of the future, but they are not superior. They should not look down upon same race marriages and peoples. It's what I call almost a "reverse racism" going on where people now think there is something wrong if you don't marry outside your ethnicity or likewise have a church that is not outside your ethnicity. Nobody should be judging.
@dimedropper
@dimedropper 4 месяца назад
What's interesting is that multicultural churches almost always have a default white culture, so to me they are basically white churches. To be frank, none of these cultures matter as long as they are accepting of one another and start off on an equal power dynamic. Unfortunately that is almost never true, so single ethnic churches are really derived from the imperfection of majority culture churches.

Despite the great status of Surah Ikhlas, it consists of only four verses that show how great, direct, and focused the Surah is. قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He is Allah-One ‘Qul huwa Allahu ahad’ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ Allah-the Sustainer ˹needed by all˺. ‘Allahu assamad’ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ He has never had offspring, nor was He born. ‘Lam yalid wa lam yoolad’ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ And there is none comparable to Him. ‘Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad’ Tafseer of Surah Al-Ikhlas Meaning in English (Verse by Verse) In the following few paragraphs, we will discuss the Celik Tafsir Surah Al Ikhlas and the meaning of Surah Al-Ikhlas verse by verse. 1. ‘Qul’ means Say, and that’s a speech from Allah to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to answer the questions of the polytheists and spread the knowledge and wisdom behind this Celik Tafsir Surah Al Ikhlas. ‘Allahu Ahad’ means Allah is One, and that’s a clear brief statement made by Allah to clarify His Oneness and the impossibility of several Gods; either idols, animals, or even humans. 2. ‘Allahu Assamad’ means Allah is The Sustainer of all and The One upon which all creatures in the heavens and Earth rely while He doesn’t rely upon any. 3. ‘Lam yalid’ means he doesn’t beget, which clearly distinguishes Islam from other religions that assume God bears sons; i.e., Christianity that assumes Jesus’ Eisa’ is the son of God. ‘Wa lam yoolad’ means Allah is not begotten and that He is the beginning of everything and nothing was before him. 4. ‘Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad’ no one is ‘kufuwan’ to him; means no one is similar to him or shares His attributes, creatures, or even His name. Allah is Unique and far above having any similarity.

Kinda amazing how, according to Romans 1, all gay people managed to make themselves "reprobate" by the age of 13. But, then, everyone who makes it through puberty without becoming gay can reject God for decade after decade without ever becoming "reprobate." It's as though 10, 11, and 12 year olds are capable of finalizing life decisions in ways that 20, 30, and 40 year olds never do.

Being attracted to the same sex and actively fantasizing about the same-sex are two separate things. If that verse actually applied to _attraction,_ then it would similarly condemn celibate or single heterosexuals. Heck, it would even condemn married heterosexuals simply for having attraction to anyone other than their spouse, which would probably mean just about everyone alive.
@yam153

@@somexp12 Yes, applies to every single man looking at women and every single woman looking at men with lust.
@somexp12
@somexp12 3 дня назад
@@yam153 Well, a person can be gay without looking at the same sex with lust. Suppressing unwanted fantasies doesn't mean your sexual orientation changes. It just means that you aren't presently thinking about whatever you're attracted to. Should you ever waiver in your commitment, the fantasies that return will still be what they were before you embarked on that commitment. More realistically, however, these fantasies would be showing up periodically, anyway, before being suppressed again once you noticed them. In this more realistic scenario, you'd have regular 1 second reminders of what your sexual orientation was. A single heterosexual man is still going to know whom he is and is not attracted to. In order even to identify what thoughts need to be suppressed, he needs to be able to identify when certain thoughts are appealing to lust. The inability to do this is actually quite dangerous, resulting in lots of very bad sexual behavior, and it happens to (typically religious) people who refuse to admit to themselves when certain feelings are the result of lust.

There wouldn't be a million denominations of you guys if good faith attempts at exegesis were immune to bias and always yielded the same result. Homosexuality is genetic. It's been around forever, it predates Christ. We just have not decoded that part of the gene yet. Give science time. If its genetic then God made it for a reason, not sure he would do that just to torture a person. Seems mean to create a person in a way that goes against the rules you (allegedly) set. If through your faith you wish to live a life where you simply do not act on it, so be it but do not get into a heterosexual relationship, people deserve to be with people who truly want to be with them with every fiber of their being.
@somexp12
@somexp12 3 дня назад
It's too complicated a trait to attribute just to genes. Most traits of this nature, even if not chosen, involve much more inputs that just genes. There are, for example, in-utero conditions that have a proven relationship to homosexuality (you can look up "birth-order effect homosexuality" to learn more). This is not genetic, but it also doesn't contradict "born that way." The available evidence, however, suggests that about 50% of the contributors come pre-birth. This leaves 50% being environmental. "Environmental" can incluse (and probably *_does_* include) early childhood experiences, but there are also epigenetic and other physical and biological inputs that can go under "environmental." In short, it's not something one can choose to have or not to have, but it's very simplistic to call it "genetic." It's also not at all clear that parents or care-givers could consciously do anything to intentionally prevent it or cause it.

But what kind of salvation and freedom is it if you're still dealing with the orientation and attraction to something that is against God? Either Christ sets us free or we don't know him
@somexp12
@somexp12 3 дня назад
Well, if that's something "salvation" requires, then precisely zero gay people have ever been "saved." Adults experiencing changes in their sexual orientation is just not something that happens. Anyone can change how they live and even exert a great deal of discipline into suppressing unwanted fantasies, but changing what one finds attractive is just not an event that occurs. If it were doable, there would be zero gay people. Anyhow, this is a weird standard to expect just from the gays. Do you expect that "repentant alcoholics" to completely lose any ability to enjoy or want alcohol? Do you expect "repentant adulterers" to lose attraction to everyone but their spouse? Why are only gay people expected to lose even the ability to be tempted?

A Christian man who lives in England has homosexual desires, & pastors a church. Many "gay" men & women have come to Jesus Christ to believe per John chapter 3, & have testified that God took away their "same sex" desires, ~He healed them~ & many of them married & are raising children, & in general serve God. But no one down here can "put God in a box", telling Him how to be God ! HE DECIDES how to deal with his children, & to help them, & to use them for his glory, & to build his kingdom. HE KNOWS WHAT WE NEED & WHAT IS GOOD FOR US. The man i mentioned above must "fight th good fight of faith" & keep himself in Holy Spirit control, and he serves God. God never took away his "same sex desires", so what else can he do ? HE NEVER TOLD US IT WOULD BE EASY OR PAINLESS to be commited to Him.

Sorry, but you need to repent. You can't be a gay Christian any more than you can be a Christian adulterer, or Christian bank robber, or Christian kidnapper or on and on. Here is what the Bible says about homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 says, "Do not have sex with a man as with a woman; that is DETESTABLE. Romans 1:27 says, "In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed SHAMEFUL acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error." 1st Timothy 1:10 says, "... sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality...and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine." 1st Corinthians 6:9-11 says, "Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." This is where a Christian who really believes the Bible to be God's word, must warn the homosexual what God actually says about homosexuality. If you love the homosexual, how could you possibly not warn him/her about what they will face on Judgment Day if they don't turn to Jesus Christ and repent (walk away from sin.) That goes for adultery, lying, stealing, drugs, drunkenness, and every other sin God warns us about.

Well since you can’t be both, no reconciliation is needed. You’re either a true Believer/Christian (who may/may not struggle with same-sex attraction - though God can/will deliver you from the attraction as well if you want Him to) OR you consider yourself a homosexual (identify as). The Bible says that if you resist the devil, he will flee from you. If you keep resisting those feelings/desires/attractions, they will eventually leave you - you will no longer struggle with them.

Real sins are behaviours that harm people. An adulterer (someone who cheats on their partner) hurts their partner. Robbery, rape, sexual abuse, murder aren't just sins but are recognised as crimes and involve a perpetrator and a victim(s). But homosexuality has no perpetrator or victim. In fact its just people living no differently to the way heterosexuals live. Falling in love, having sex, working, building lives together. What's shocking is its not just child or serial killers, in fact even mass murderers can enter the Christian heaven after repenting, whilst innocent homosexuals who've never killed anyone or committed any crime are kept out. This is some twisted and perverted rule made by this Christian God.

HERE SOME SCIENTIFIC FACTS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY: + The WHO,World Health Organization, stated clearly, that homosexuality is not a disease or disorder, but a healthy, natural born sexual orientation. + Evolution scientists stated in several publications, that homosexuality exists since sexuality exists, since 385 million years. + They also stated, that having homosexual members in the own tribe gives several evolutionary advantages, which explains the permanent share of 4-10% homosexuals of the population. + So the question would be rather: why putting an ethical limit on homosexuality, if its natural, healthy and even with a natural sense?

Dear brother, I understand that you have repented of homosexuality, of that behavior. But you are still struggling with SSA. If so: 1. You need to be delivered from the demon of homosexuality (Mark 16:17 is for today to). 2. You need to change/renew (metanoia) your mind about your identity. You are a complete male, with normal male desires, because god created you so, and Jesus Christ made you complete/perfect by His redemption. Look for the greek word redemption= soteria, what it means. When you where redeemed, you where made complete/perfect also, in Jesus Christ. 3. So, you do`t need to struggle anymore with those attractions, you need to expel that demon, and to grow in your new identity in Christ, that is a normal male, made in God`s image, follower of Jesus Christ, the son of the living God, a normal male that could have a normal family. Please watch this video and do the prayer in the end. You will be free indeed, in Jesus Name. (John 8:36). Be blessed in Jesus Name. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nqAGdE6l_Js.htmlsi=gaEuuM2mB5GZW4jg
