Welcome. Our channel is all about knives! Im a bonified, certified steel nerd and knife enthusiast. On the channel we do a little bit of everything. Reviews, unboxings, steel and knife testing. Sharpening videos etc etc. Basically, All encompassing knife related content. Thanks for stopping in. Ya'll come back now you hear!
Manix 2 is favorite Spyderco, possibly my favorite knife of all time. I prefer the g10, but don't mind the frn lightweight atall, all my lightweights are pinned, but I'm really wanting to try these different scales their coming out with. I'll have to buy a new manix to do so.... but I'm okay with that! Nice video
@@Alejandro0__123 yes the ratings are different. But the F240 is fairly similar to a DMT coarse diamond plate. Theres a great chart on gritomatic that compares them with lots of other stone types.
Larrin guessed it was spray form but Artisan said it was something else. We already knew what it was before Larrins video because it was disclosed already from someone in china in the industry. Larrin is okay but no where near great at heat treatment.
@@tacticalcenter8658 idk what the point of your comment is. Are you just shitting on larrin or trying to claim its not spray form? His best guess is its spray form andi have no reason to doubt his opinion on it.
I got a set of black AWT type 3 scales on my Manix 2 LW Salt too. These scales are very comfortable and solid, and the fit with the blade is perfect. This is now my favorite knife. Do you know if there is an aftermarket ball cage that will fit with these scales? Anyway, nice vid.
@@steel2stone Yeah, Flytanium generall makes great stuff, but I've seen reports from other RU-vid'ers that the Flytanium cages cause the action to stick on the AWT scales, and I've heard people on Reddit say that the AWT LW scales in particular do not work well with the Flytanium cages. I was just wondering if you had any experience with that. I'll probably just leave the plastic one in there. Thanks.
You can keep magnacut. The steel choice should stay in the salt series specifically the way they are with lw scales. Those ti scales would be better suited to a different steel IMHO.
Good to know, thanks. The only problem with spyderco doing it is that it would probably end up costing twice what you spent, at least. So sick of price gouging these days... Anyway, mainly just commenting to support the effort. - Have a good one
Another benefit to not chasing mirror finishes. Save money on stones. 600 grit diamond for high carbide steels or 1000 grit waterstones for simple steels and kitchen knives
Thanks for the video. Mostly commenting to support the effort. You made me reconsider at first, but the cons kind of added up - especially the grip. I do think it's a cool idea though and the overall design is well done. I'll have to stick with my nightshade for now. In general, my knife buying has really decreased since the price hikes ‐ and i already had plenty of knives... Still waiting to find my perfect knife with magnacut...may have to go custom eventually. Anyway, keep up the good work.
I have actually not seen this one. Very interesting. I still have a couple of unused Surefire knives. There is one that I could see using this too. It would have made it more useful. Hmmm. Got me thinking now.
A little on the pricey side... describes a lot of their knives these days...seems like they followed benchmade. Benchmade, never again for me, but i can't quit Spyderco just yet 😅 i think the k390 endura, and the like are still decent price wise.
@@barberismeable sure, Heres the diamond plate - amzn.to/3Sq2hW9 Heres some good stropping compound amzn.to/3SkMW9h The diamond resin stones are from gritomatic.com
Probably underrated because only one company uses it... And that company nails the HT on all the best steels available. I put a screaming edge on my endura wharnie in k390 and swore I wouldn't buy another knife til it dulls.... So it may be awhile 😂 but next is a pm3 in spy27 or a lw magnacut.
Looking forward to the testing of the different steels and seeing what differences they have as far as edge retention and toughness goes. Thanks for sharing brother !!
Good lookin' knife. I haven't followed the current data, but i remember there was lack of clarity about the optimal HRC number for magnacut, all things being equal (which they rarely are of course). When i left off, people seemed to think it was between 62 and 64. I imagine Larin (sp?) has probably weighed in by now. If your heat treat is good and you hit 62 it probably doesn't matter much, but i guess i was wondering if everyone came to a general consensus on a max number.
@@dylanemeraldgrey theres a pretty large jump in edge retention at 63 from what i remember. Tougher at 62. Ill probably run some at different hardnesses and test them
Counterpoint: Once you stop buying what everyone tells you "real knife collectors" should own, you'll discover your own preferences and start enjoying your collection a whole lot more.
Man you are sharpening exactly like me 😊! I have a stone holder but still hold the stone's in Hand. And these Venev stones are my favorite! Greetings from Europe edit: love the knife, look awesome! Do you still make l them
Good video brother. I like that you’re able to sharpen ambidextrously. It’s a skill I haven’t mastered yet. You ended up with a extremely keen edge in short order. Thanks for sharing brother 👊🏼
weak ass handle in my opinion.i wanted cru wear but i hate micarta i have to buy different scales,id buy more cruwear but the crappy scales hold me back
Not a fan of knives made by communists but 14c28n is some real pimp shit. I live in the ghetto between fairy land and little Africa and I like to go jogging every morning when the drug addicts and bums are going to sleep I can not legally carry a firearm in my county so I carry the next best thing a little spray and a fixed blade. I really like my self defense fixies made from 14c28n. Tough steel I don’t feel like ima break if I need to use it as a shiv. Pretty stainless so even though it gets soaked on my jog it need minimal oil. I have jogged with high carbon blades like this and it’s almost impossible to keep them dry and oiled when I’m running near the creek in the rain ect. The I need to do a lot of maintenance when I get home. The steel takes a great edge when I use it for edc chores it strops right back to hair shaving. Love this stuff
I bought this knife new in February of ‘24 ( made in 2022) and have just started to use it. Fantastic sharpness right out of the box. Hoping it is not too brittle but from what I have seen, people seem to think the heat treatment has improved in recent years. Also I may have to sharpen a few times. We shall see.
Was wondering why no one explains what and why resin bond is always used in motorized equipment. Reason ,is because resin is very difficult to release any abrasive mateix by hand sharpening. You should be expecting to work 20x more ineffective by using resin bonded abrasives ny hand. This is not an opinion. It is fact.
@@steel2stonehaha oh I didn’t know it was just rebranded Cruwear! Are you happy with the knife? I was a little disappointed to see how it performed in this test given its reputation. But I suppose k390 is an elite opponent
@@cody3078 yea I think its great. Tough steels like cruwear are best for like outdoor use. Bushcrafting and prying and such. Shock resistant and resistant to breaking from being bent. K390 has a lot more carbide and high hardness which makes the edge of the knife stronger and more wear resistant. So if you're looking for a knife to hold up to small chips and have great edge retention. Go with k390. If your looking for a unbreakable pry tool that's decent at resisting chips and deformation and decent at edge holding go for cruwear. Best way I can explain it. Just FYI. I threw the endura to stick it in a tree like a throwing knife. Just messing around on a hike. It snapped the blade at the pivot.
