Eh infomercials.. Please do some transparent waterproofness testing. It's hard to figure out how wet should I expect to be. Like, Ventile gets damp, too, or garments from Fjallraven g-1000 get damp after 30 minutes of moderate to hard rain. It would be useful to have time to get damp + time to dry up measurements in humid conditions I'm a long time Nikwax user and I am hopeful for Paramo, but it's not clear how effective it is
@OverCowboy I did this video a while back where I talk about the level of protection Paramo can provide and do a bit of a test. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vIY1tMtULBA.htmlsi=QWyrkNeYsbWPz7iT
@@OutdoorsMagicTV Didn't see that one before. Thanks! Sorry for being jumpy and all. I heard you need a lot of reproofing to keep the Paramo wicking water away. How often do you reproof?
Sorry but how can this be a test of the Best Down Jackets from 2024.. when the test was filmed in March of 2022? Can you also tell the numbers of the lottery two years ahead? 🙏
What I wonder is can you lock your car while using the tent? Cause I imagine the movement above would make the alarm go off but then again, you dont wanna have unlocked car during the night.
It wasn't an issue for us and I guess it must depend on the car. Some have an option to temporarily disable the sensors while still keeping the rest of the alarm active. Will
Your tent looks quite quite good. Have you tested your tent on a thousand foot? Hilltop 2,000 ft. Hilltop my backpack is tent would do very nicely on a 2000 peak hilltop it survived harsh conditions when they've been up there with portable ham radio equipment aerial system and food God bless
Tentbox do guy ropes which can be fixed to the wheels so it should eliminate that movement you described. I have the 2.0 lite which is the slightly smaller version of this. Best buy I’ve made in a long time.
I have four pairs of these,(Salomon quest gtx)NOT Only because of the reduced Sale price But the first pair already 6 years old with very little wear(somewhat dirty- regular dog walks x2/x3) So worth every pound for £#.00.
Yes it is inner first, so it's not ideal in very bad weather. That said, it's quick to pitch and you can keep the fly over the top to shield against rain while you sort the inner out. Will
Hi guys, thank you for the video, you might be able to help me. I am looking at either the Paramo smock or a G1000 from Fjallraven. I do tend to get very hot during activity and would be using the jackets in fairly mild to rather cold climates. What would you suggest?
I think I'd pick Paramo if you tend to run hot. They're slightly more breathable in my opinion and they have good venting options. I'd also say they're better for wet weather. Will
I've had mine for more than five years and it still looks the same. The huge zip pocket on the chest means this is my travel and airport shirt, though I'd like to have more colours and a less military look. My girlfriend refers to this one as my "Hitler shirt."
Gonna throw this out there, anyone used mtn jacket as a snowboard shell? Seem a damn sight more durable than some SB brands. Wondering whether one of these Makalus would do the job, size up to L/XL perhaps
I bought this jacket last year in a large. I'm 5"10 195 with a large chest (I work out). The arms on the jacket are longer than most jackets. This is intended as a climbing jacket so there's a lot of range of motion in the arms but the can bunch up a bit if you don''t have long arms. I wish I could have tried a medium on,. Other than that it is a great jacket.
I haven't tried that product, but having quickly glanced at the stats for it, I suspect the Mythic Ultra is both warmer and lighter. Though it is more expensive. Will
The Nikwax reproofing solution basically 'sticks' to the existing DWR on the face fabric of the jacket, effectively topping it up. That's why using the wash-in version doesn't affect the inside of a shell or inhibit breathability (because only the outside of a jacket is treated with a DWR coating). That's also why Nikwax works best if you use it fairly regularly, i.e. before most of the DWR on your jacket has already worn away or degraded.
@@mattymountains thanks for advice. I'm gonna get Nikwax for my 'smart' waterproofs. What do you recommend for a 'rough' jacket with most of the proofing faded?
I've mainly used Nikwax in recent years so I can't really offer a fair comparison. I don't think there's much separating them in terms of performance. Nikwax have good sustainability objectives though. And it's employee owned 👍
Thanks for the video! Would be great to see more on Nikwax for garments and tents. In my experience it always seems like the waterproofing comes out not good enough when doing per product recommendations, and if I overdo it, theres white stains or non-uniform pale tint to the fabric
How many washes does treatment last? 20? Former version II company promised life-long (...), but with new, plant-based insect repellent this should be probably less.
@benmacdui9328 and by the way, I've done a fair bit of running in the mountains of my home country, as you'll see here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-58773037 Am I not allowed in Scotland though?
@@OutdoorsMagicTV lovely video. Ignore the xenophobe. I was up there last week doing a solo traverse of An Teallach...and a few days earlier, The Cobbler. All the Scottish walkers I chatted with were very friendly ..what we share in common is our love for the mountains.
I prefer my karrimor panther 3 . Yea its 1kg heavier but come on 3kg between 2 is nothing. Is bigger and goes up faster . Definitely stronger its got sleeves not silly clips to inevitably break. Its allso £500 cheaper 😂
hella expensive but would pay for itself easily over a few months of me working on the road. no more stopping for a cold drink when it gets very hot, no more having to buy food on the go because the black car is so hot my food becomes unsanitary by mid day. i might invest. also, all the time saved finding drinks and food on the go, all invested in being more productive!
If you prefer a shirt, rather than a t shirt, these shirts are the way to go. They'll take robust treatment for many years before they show any signs of wear.
