I bought the originals first time around in the late 80’s. Definitely an inspiration for the boys . Always hoped that someone would make a movie or tv show , so many fantastic characters and story arcs.
I just picked up issues 1 and 2 yesterday and immediately had to look to see if anyone else had read it. I think BOC could have used 2 more artists and 2 fewer writers. Still, this is my favorite era of comics.
@svenylford4047 yeah the writing made it incomprehensible, too many ideas and not enough focus. I'm thinking of starting a power comics swap on Facebook or something. Power Comics are so regional it's easy to find some books and not others.
@PippaRilley yeah we never touched it but I think the mother abandoned it because she hasn't been around. I think she didn't realistic it was so close to people.
@PippaRilley one will stay with us the other will run off. She eventually will come back but we're afraid of he getting hit. Plus off leash is a great idea until a porcupine comes around.
Super cool! Love zuli. Big fan of Alice cooper band. Never heard of this. Duoshade is the paper with line in it that you use 2 different chemicals to bring out the lines. It doesn’t exist anymore because the chemicals used are bad for you as I understand. Like anything else I’m sure you can find old stock out there but it’s most likely very expensive but according to Kevin Eastman it always was. Which is why I always wondered why 2 broke struggling artists used it.
Hey, congrats for the vídeo. His looks like Cerebus (a little), i love this kind of comics. Maybe could be good put in the text more info about the comic, creators, details, and stuff. Keep doing this videos about underground or unknown comics...
@dpachers thanks! That's a good advice on adding creator stuff in the description. I usually just regurgitate the title but I'll do that going forward.
HA! you mean.... cosmic stellar rebelers! that was an old time fave of mine. It was recommended to me in the mid-80's in one of those early TMNT comics. took me awhile to find all 4 issues, it's hoaky but fun.
seen a couple issues of this Demongate run in my local comic shop discount bin for years and just now bought them when i discovered it was barry blair. loved old school aircel before they went all X-Rated and everything. But i guess thats where the money was in the early to mid 90's when comics we're falling out a bit. so they had to do what they had to do to stay afloat. it didn't help all that much as aircel would be sold soon after. but Barry kept it going with books like these
@joechlystun7979 yeah barry and air El is a complicated story. I wonder what kind of stuff he woukd have been doing if he had lived, would he have resurfaced during the covid boom in comics?
The frustrated sighs are completely relatable. I'm almost 100% sure the dragons in Gabraal are swiped from some D&D artwork. BTW I just followed you on Instagram, and there's a little something that I would like to tell you about over there.
@okcomics1635 I try my hardest not to judge power comics folks too much but sometimes it's a little extreme. Though I feel if it's a rip off it's from a place of love.
thanks for the review of one of my childhood faves, the art really got bad and distracting for several issues but stephen hughes would sign on to do issues 10 through 17 and made things enjoyable again
One of the greatest and comics specific things is a change in artist or writer. If you read a series and it's mediocre or bad, you can just wait a few issues and they may change the artist or writer and things dramatically change. Whether or not it's worth it is up to the individual. And thank you foe your comments!
Aircel, Silverwolf, and even Blackthorne were big parts of my childhood comics fan experience. as far as Samurai, i started with issue 15 vol 1 with Dale Keown art. i do enjoy Patrick McEown now, and even back then i thought his back up story in Dragonring vol 2 issue 4 was amazing, but as far as Samurai went i was only interested in the Dale Keown stuff. i think Blair's writing suffered when he was writing too many titles as well as drawing. i try not to look at his later stuff too much. there were certain panels scattered throughout his works that made me feel uneasy. i feel like Blair's best work was on Gun Fury vol 1. i think it was the most successful at what it was going for, a satire of comics and the industry at the time with amazing art by Dave Cooper.
Picked up a power comic called Calamitous Black Devils from 2013 when I was In Maine. Both the issues are signed so I assume it was from Maine but there’s no address. Ever heard of it? It’s definitely wild and a power comic from 2013 seems nuts. Worth checking out!
Digging thru my old short boxes pulled out this issue in a Newstand high grade also found Drunken Fist # 1 ,The Force Of Buddha's Palm # 7 ( on pg. 62 picture of Tony Wong & Jackie Chan ), # 13 (My Favorite Cover ) # 17, # 18 and I thought I had more gotta dig thru my own stuff👍🔥🔥👍Published & Printed all his own comics
Yeah I've watched all the power comics episodes and had forgotten they had done this one. I'm going to rewatch it and see how it lines up with my thoughts.
love the concept (if he is still somehow deals with protection) and would say I need to get my hands on these comics for that alone, but it sounds like there is a lot of teething problems with the story. The art, story aside is good in my opinion. I would hope it touches on concepts of being restricted and abused and in this journey Safety Belt Man finds freedom ...
Yeah definitly fantastic in both regards. I almost think it's a pinnacle for him. I have to check out his dc work to be sure but he definitly put his all into it.
Great name for an aquatic character - RIPTIDE - this was the only aquatic character I can think of in Image Comics first generation, and that's sad. I have seen this reviewed several times because the concept exites me but everyone agrees it's lackluster so I know I'm just sykin myself, but I like many of their characters and every good company needs at least one, if not a small number of aquatic properties, to tell stories that take place within the envirnment.
Loved this book I remember I got issue 2 off the rack and number 1had already spiked to like 20 dollars which was too much for a kid to afford. Man I wanted that book so bad! Then my Dad got interested in them because he was a Vietnam vet so he picked up number 1 for me and I still have it that's a different kind of value than money 🤘✌️
That's a great story! Yeah comics can be so personal for sure, especially when passed down from parent to child. Its really a one of a kind thing that movies can't emulate. Well it can but it's simply not the same
My two cents - I think the only criteria you should follow is whether you have something you want to say about the comic or there if you think it's really cool. I think any & all publishers should be included in your vids. Keep up the good work 👍
The whole solid darkness is riffing off Cloak, Darkstar and Blackout from Marvel who manipulated the Dark Force. Pseudo science which made for some cool characters.
