Quick question Mike. What phenix rod is that ? Been thinking about getting a phenix surf rod. Don’t surf fish much but love phenix rods myself. Need one for surf I love the feather for plugging inside the bay
Hi again, Your recent stripper forays seem to be on about 2-week, or so, cycles. Judging from the timing of postings, am I correct in concluding that the stripper runs tend to come and go depending on what . . .? Tides, Solar/Lunar activity, or just the random gods of fishing that push the bait fish onshore? Thanks Mike. You always inspire me to get my feet wet!
@@josephmarciano4761 Thank You for tuning in. Tides always play a huge part and when I go out along with the winds. It’s usually every weekend especially when I can process the content. I have slowed down a little but due to vacation and the conditions. I don’t pay attention too much to lunar tides or moon Phases. As long as the conditions line up is when I go out cheers.
@@kevsgonefishing The brand that I have been growing fond of is Simms just for their comfort and durability. The grey one shown is the “waypoints” the other one to look into is the “challenger”.
@@greatestever3827 I definitely swap them out for the belly and front hook size 3 battlestar 3X strong. The rear hook is a Vmc 4x. I also crush my barbs to do less damage and an easier release.
Was that lure that broke a 2 piece jointed jerkbait? I have never seen a lure break straight in half like that😂. Hopefully one day I can catch just a fraction of the stripers you catch. Fish on! 👍🐟
@@Ducky2o just a standard swarter. I looked closely and had a fracture on the top not sure why. It’s been definitely been fruitful in NorCal. Definitely get after next year around may when it’s more productive.

Been fishing for a year now in bay and rivers I want to try surf fishing I been reading the comments and seen you said 1/2 ounce - 1 ounce ratio 10 ft like I was wondering what lb braid u use

Nice fish as always! I just upgraded my rod and reel and I can now throw jerkbaits so much farther. Hopefully you can leave a few stripers for me to catch😂! Tight lines 👍🐟
@@mikestacklebox Thanks for taking the time to reply!. What do you think of the Tides4Fishing site and its use of the Solar/Lunar tables to predict "Low" to "High" Fish Activity? I can't tell the difference between my success and what the site said I'd encounter.
@@josephmarciano4761 it’s definitely personal preference on what site to use. I use them to get a perspective of the energy. You almost never know until you get there. At that point I will decide what beach will be worth it.

HI Mike! Love your vids bro! I'm a rookie on surf fishing but ready to go out there. Maybe hit up Baker's Beach this weekend. Is that a good beach? Also my setup is a Okuma Rockaway rod paired up with the Okuma 6000 reel with 20lb braid and going to use a 15lb leader. Will that get the job done? I'm also going to be using luckycraft lures. Do you think I'll have a good casting distance with what I'm going to be using? Thanks in advance Mike and keep getting those zebra's!
@@hendoramz9027 thanks for tuning in. I’m not sure about your lure rating on your rockaway but your 6k reel is slightly on the big side to throw a lucky craft type lure. In terms of leaders i usually don’t go less than 30lb mono for like the stretch. Generally speaking i use rods that are about 1/2-1oz. I’m the 10 Ft range. Baker is a decent beach but always look at the windfinder app or Surf forecast.com.
