Hilda Baker was truly the consummate comediane with such a unique style forged from years of traditional g the boards fantastic ! However Russel Harty was such an insufferable snob and so disingenuous when he interviewed . I ca t believe how awful he was . Stupid irrelevant questions one after another .

Russell Harty was a good, down to earth host and interviewer. Parkinson the other hand would aim degrading questions toward female guests.

What a wonderful and very talented Woman She was. I always loved her from the first moment I saw her on television. My Mother used to copy a few of her catchphrases, and make everyone laugh. I'm currently watching 'Not on your Nellie'. And plan to revisit 'Nearest and Dearest' soon. What joy Hilda brought, and still brings.

I remember seeing her in her first film... I can't remember the name of it, but she was the landlady of a bed and breakfast in Blackpool! This was a long time ago! LOL

Hilda spent time living in Bexley Village when she was at the end of her career. I was a little boy of five and would see her in the street while she was out doing her shopping. She was unfailingly kind and always talked to my mum and talked to me too. A real talent.

Does anyone remember the name of documentary series, which channel 4 made in the late 1990s? I think it was two parts. It was very good as It wasnt as sensationalised like the current crop of documentaries on these serial killers. It was on youtube some years ago, but I think its been taken down...

Its weird how Rose thinks her life sucks and somehow 3rd class ppl are happier, their life sucks too, only they are too busy working hard to make ends meet that they dont have the time to sit and dwell in the sorrow. Life sucks but it sucks morw when u are poor. A woman can maary rich & be miserable or marry poor & still be miserable. very rarely does one get it all, wealth, love & respect

I remember the story how she would carry a tape measure and measure her name on the bill to make sure it was the biggest. Especially if appearing with Jimmy Jewel.

Seen her in some serious films, but here not certain whether to laugh at her, or laugh with her, she was unusual in Nearest & Dearest, she sometimes forgot her lines, no one knew or understood her dementia illness, that why Jimmy Jewell couldn’t get with her on set, as he had to push her to remember her lines, they would argue behind the studio sets at Granada, all history now loosing Hilda and Jimmy.

I know this scene comes after they went back to the present and Lizzy doubts her grandma was in the titanic. For the extended edition they could have not added the present scene and just cross dissolve the scene of her clutching the heart the ocean to this scene and only not show the wreck model just the 1912 version and kept going. And just reconfigured their scene talking on the boat deck and ur good. It didn’t need to be fully cut since we get to spend more time in third class.
