Well, I learned about over-stretching the hard way this summer: I spent a couple hours berry picking and in doing so, I stretched my arms as far as I could to snag some high-hanging fruit. The next day......torture,,,,,my lower back was on fire! I thought I had done something really harmful to my back, but the pain went away over the next few days (thankfully).
