As a grandfather returning to woodworking and learning to overcome my physical disabilities and limitations, I hope my journey will be helpful to others as I try to learn new tricks and technology along the way. I'm grateful to be joined in this journey by my wife of 37 years. linktr.ee/poppopsworkshop
You probably already know this…but when you get it all dialed in and are ready for your final run, you can lay down some Oramask (or similar) film before cutting so when you pour your epoxy you protect the wood around the borders. Since you are using ply, you don’t have much leeway to sand off overflow.
Hi Tony my name is Eloy the handyman 👨🔧 I am doing woodworking for some projects since you are the expert what wood is stronger oak that will last for ever ?
@eloyruiz5958 thanks for the compliment, but I'm really just an enthusiastic novice. There are many durable species. Cyprus, teak, mesquite, ironwood, Osage orange to name a few. Much depends on what your making and will it be an interior or exterior product
@ZachysMom88 the tape allows me to mark where the fasteners should go. Then I put it on my level line, drill holes, insert fasteners, and hang the item.
Those are some beautiful stains! I’ve never stained walnut or maple, just because they’re both so pretty naturally, buuuut I kinda want to try it now! 😂 Nice case study Tony!
Another fantastic source for mica powder is Glitter Chimp. They also have literal tons of glitter as well as demo videos on RU-vid. Color shifting Mica powder is awesome but pricey.
I learned a trick from a painter friend of mine. Did you see how the edges of your painters tape was curling up and not staying down which will cause bleeding under the tape? If before you stain you wet the tape down and press it to the wood, after letting it dry the tape will not curl up and will stay adhered to the wood to prevent bleeding.
I have never had much success with connecting dust collection to a power miter saw. But, that could just be me. I hope it works out for you. I have seen dust shrouds that help to contain the dust. The seem a bit bulky to me. As for getting into small spaces, I keep a midget in my tool box for those occasions.
Nice set up. Wish I could put my dust collector outside my shop but up here in MN I end up with two concerns doing it both in winter involving heat. I'd lose a bunch via pumping the air outside and not sure what kind of vacuum it would create on the shop and if it would mess with the wood stove. In any case it looks like yours isn't outside outside just in another room so that's nice.
The Wizard of Saving Time (play on the Wizard of Speed and Time). BTW I love my laser it is great for adding embellishments and doing scroll work on thin stock.
Glad your result was on the positive side. Wife has had 4 now, the third one she had left side neglect but after a month was coming back. Covid locked me out of her nursing home and she had stroke 4. 3 years later she is still in the nursing home with left side neglect and no sign of regaining control. Best wishes for you, strokes are scary, take it easy and don't have your extend itself.
