Located in Philadelphia, PA, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars. Through our theme, “The Spirit of Competition”, we celebrate the history and evolution of these magnificent machines. Assembled over 50 years by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Frederick Simeone, the Museum contains over 70 historically significant cars including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford and more. We are open Tuesday through Sunday for General Admission and there is always something new and exciting happening here. We offer many different types of events including our world-famous Demo Days, Special Events, Special Exhibits and more. The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit institution.
We conserve fuel since our procedure is to drain the tank when the car is put away. We want to preserve our cars as much as possible and long-term gasoline storage can damage a car.
The engine sounds strong but the transmission is so agricultural. At that time, the Alfas and Maseratis were the leading sports cars. This would quickly change, at least in Grand Prix racing, the remainder of the thirties.
I remember speaking to Derek a few years ago at a London Motor Show and he said the handling of the Ferrari 512S as truck-like when compared to the Porsche 917.
It is Chassis # K3027. It finished 4th overall at the 1934 24 Hours of Le Mans and won that year's Index of Performance piloted by Roy Eccles and C.E.C. "Charlie" Martin. You can learn more about it here. simeonemuseum.org/collection/1934-mg-k3-magnette/
To take this car to the track would violate the trust and legacy of Dr. Simeone. He was a preservationist first and foremost. He always asked the question "why would you risk a historically significant car, at a historically insignificant event, being piloted by a historically insignificant driver."
