Writing over 3,000 video scripts is an impressive accomplishment, and it undoubtedly comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Here are some valuable lessons that one might learn from such an extensive writing journey: 1. **Clarity is Key**: Ensuring that your scripts are clear and easy to understand is essential. Your audience should grasp the message you're trying to convey without confusion. 2. **Know Your Audience**: Understanding your target audience is crucial. Tailor your scripts to their needs, preferences, and expectations. 3. **Conciseness Matters**: In the age of short attention spans, brevity is crucial. Get to the point quickly and avoid unnecessary jargon or verbosity. 4. **Storytelling Enhances Engagement**: Incorporating storytelling elements can make your scripts more engaging and memorable. People connect with narratives. 5. **Call to Action**: Don't forget the call to action. Whether you want viewers to subscribe, like, or take some other action, make it clear and compelling. 6. **Visual and Auditory Appeal**: Recognize the importance of visuals, sound, and pacing in video scripts. A script isn't just about words; it's about the complete audiovisual experience. 7. **Emotion is Powerful**: Emotionally resonant scripts are more likely to leave a lasting impact. Consider how to elicit emotional responses from your audience. 8. **Problem-Solution Approach**: Many successful video scripts follow a problem-solution structure. Highlight a problem early on, and then present your product or solution as the answer. 9. **Test and Iterate**: Be open to testing your scripts and refining them based on audience feedback and performance metrics. 10. **Stay Current**: Stay up-to-date with trends and developments in video marketing, as well as changes in the platforms where your videos will be shared. 11. **Collaborate**: Working with other creatives, such as designers, videographers, and sound engineers, can enhance the overall quality of your video content. 12. **Research is Key**: Thoroughly research your topics and any relevant competitors to ensure your content is unique and valuable. 13. **Consistency Builds Brand**: Consistency in your video scripts, both in style and messaging, helps build a strong brand identity. 14. **SEO Matters**: Incorporate SEO principles into your scripts to increase the visibility of your videos on search engines and video-sharing platforms. 15. **Adapt to New Platforms**: As new platforms emerge and gain popularity, be willing to adapt your scriptwriting style to fit the format and audience of these platforms. 16. **Listen to Feedback**: Pay attention to viewer comments and feedback to understand what works and what doesn't. Use this information to improve future scripts. 17. **Legal Considerations**: Understand copyright and intellectual property laws, ensuring your scripts and content are compliant. 18. **Plan Ahead**: Develop a content calendar and script ideas in advance to maintain a consistent posting schedule. 19. **Seek Inspiration**: Draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, including other successful video scripts, books, articles, and real-life experiences. 20. **Stay Passionate**: Lastly, maintain your passion for storytelling and scriptwriting. It's your enthusiasm that can make your scripts truly stand out. Writing 3,000+ video scripts is undoubtedly a remarkable journey, and the lessons learned along the way can continue to shape your growth as a scriptwriter and video content creator. Keep evolving, experimenting, and adapting to the ever-changing world of video production and content marketing.
I think companies are trying to copy apple: minimal, simplistic, clean, futuristic aesthetics. In the 80s and 90s mtv made things “extreme”, attitude, youth, rebellion, crazy. Sports jerseys had angry looking animals, teens wore baggy jeans, pocket chains, wrist sweat bands… loud, almost dangerous looking fashion. Now with simplistic, more feminized look: tight jeans, man buns, thick rim glasses… technology is social status, apple lead the way in not just their logo but their phones and laptop has clean straight lines, no color, very generic look to it, starting with the original iPod. In the 90s apple laptops were round and colorful, but they found new success even to become the most valuable company in the world ever with their modern look. Not just Gap tried to copy it, but GM, windows, Instagram, Pizza Hut… all try to follow this trend.
Hi Matt, thank you for your tutorial. You had many good pointers. I especially liked your divided script format (2:44) with the voiceover or dialogue on one side, and the screen action on the other side, all situated all one page. That's the first time I've seen that structure! I think your 135 words per minute may be a bit fast though! IMHO I found your pacing in this video was a tadd speedy, as if you were off to the races... or just wanted to get the video finished! I've found in the photo workshops I give, and travelogues I present to public groups, a nice, easygoing pace is better, with pauses to absorb what is being said. With YT videos, it's easy to rewind and listen to what was said. Not so on live or recorded videos that someone won't be bothered to replay. Thanks again for your tips and techniques! Cheers, Frederic in Montréal.
Hi Matt, great video! I have been desperately looking everywhere for a video like this. I have Pro Video Editing skills (like magnates media quality) and my only thing stopping me from creating was how to script my work. This helped a lot!
Just dropped in comments for the progression of this channel, how it looks, feels and setup. I can’t believe this channel has not got more views / subscribers. The only thing I can see is descriptions that need a little punch / research . Great work , keep it up 👍🏻
