Hi! I'm Teresa, a surface pattern designer and watercolor artist. Welcome to my channel where we practice watercolor painting with a relaxed, intuitive mindset. Who needs more stress, right? This channel is dedicated to helping you embrace the magic of watercolors so painting can become a soul-soothing experience. And if you're not a painter, then I hope you find a few moments of relaxation by listening to some great tunes and watching me paint. ;) If you'd like to know more about my surface pattern work, please visit my website, bealadesigns.com, and if you want to see more of everything I do, you can get a great overview on my instagram page.
Thanks so much! I see you found my tutorial on water control after watching this one. I'm so glad it helped. If you have any questions, please let me know.
When I saw Alaska stories in your playlist I had to come listen. I lived in Interior Alaska for 14 years about 35 miles south of Fairbanks. I loved your story! I would have been one of the people in the cabin when the fish were finally found. 😃 I embraced life in Alaska in many ways, however, fishing wasn’t one of them! I love this tutorial and I might even try it. I like the idea of being able to work slower. Your flowers and leaves turned out beautifully. ❤
Hello! I love meeting people who live or who have lived in AK. It's such a unique place that I automatically feel a kinship with other sourdoughs. 😍I wish we could have lived there longer. I bet you have some fantastic stories!! I have to confess, I do not like to fish either. But despite my dislike for it, that was a fun day. I hope you try the painting. :) Thanks for watch!
So glad you enjoyed it! I loved that studio, but we recently changed cities, so I have a new studio reveal coming out hopefully this week (fingers crossed)!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. This is probably the best I’ve watched (and I’ve watched a lot!) because you not only give examples, they are examples I can replicate myself and hopefully begin to understand. ❤️
*Hi Beala! 😊This was such a helpful video for me! Thank you for the info! Q: Now that you've had this palette for a year...do some paints ever come sliding out from their slots, once they've hardened? It looks so smooth and seems like it would come off the glass, maybe?? (Btw, Is that surface actually glass material or pexiglass type material?) I'd be using this for Plein Air outdoor painting and no one seems to have this gorgeous looking palette. Or is this more of an indoor type studio palette and not for Plein air?* thanks!
Hi! So sorry for the delayed response. The paints are still attached. I have not had any issues with them falling out. But, I initially conditioned the palette by rubbing toothpaste on it to wash off the clear protective coating most plastic palettes come with from the manufacturer. I’m sure that helped. I have been traveling back and forth between two cities a lot this year and have taken this palette with me many times. I have also used it outside numerous times. I have not had any problems. The only thing is it is not leak proof. I purchased a leak-proof one from Meeden that I now use when traveling that I really like. It does not hold as many colors though. I will talk about it in an upcoming video. Hope that helps!
You did a really good review. I appreciate the extra off-screen time you spent testing out all of the papers, it is really the only way to truly know how each paper will perform consistently. What about Arches? Not sure it comes in a brighter white, or how it compares to Saunders when it comes to warping because I have never used Saunders paper. But every time I have priced the Saunders 100% cotton paper it is always more expensive than Arches, even when it is on sale. I use cheaper 100% cotton paper for practice, like Bee paper from Amazon in a loose leaf form, or my Paul Ruben leather watercolor journal with 100% cotton paper, or a block of Bahong 100% cotton watercolor paper. But for finished pieces I always use Arches 100% cotton 140 lb. cold press watercolor block. I think I paid $19.99 for my last Arches block in a 9x12 size, but I think it only has 12 sheets. They actually have that same 9x12 Arches block for $19.89 on sale at Jerry's Artarama and I believe they ship worldwide.
Thank you so much. I tried Arches years ago when I was first starting out and did not like it. I don't remember why, but I'm confident my inexperience at the time likely had something to do with it. I know a lot of artists love it, so I really do need to try it again. I did another review after this one (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hp5TQO9jW-k.html) and found that Baohong/Meeden work really well for me. At the time, I was not sure if the companies are related, but I now have a relationship with Meeden and yes, they are related. They are sponsoring one of my upcoming review videos. They are now my go-to paper. I will give Arches another try though. Thanks for your comment!
For the most part, the real test of paper is how much abuse it can take before it breaks down. Layer, layer, layer, layer, layer, reductive painting, layer. I suspect that paper that warps will likely also break down at about layer 5 or so. Thus Sanders and Legion. My analysis came in as such: Artbeek: 30 sheets: $20: This one 9x12 only! (Amazon) price per sheet: $0.67 [ 9 ] Stonehenge Legion: 15 sheets: $19: (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.26 [ 6 ] Meeden: 20 sheets: $33 (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.65 [ 7 ] Kilimanjaro: 20 sheets: $35: (Cheap Joe) price per sheet: $1.75 [ 8 ] New York Central: 20 sheets: $36 (Amazon) price per sheet: $1.80 [ 5 ] Baohong: 20 sheets: $47 (Blick Art) price per sheet: $2.35 [ 3 ] Saunders: 20 sheets: $48 (Amazon) price per sheet: $2.40 [ 1 ] Fabriano: 20 sheets: $52 (Blick Art) price per sheet: $2.60 [ 4 ] Arches: 12 sheets: $33 (Amazon) price per sheet: $2.75 [ 2 ]
Hello Teresa, I'm Teresa too! This is EXACTLY how I figure the cost for my paper. I was fooled into thinking GenCraft would be the best price as well, until I figure the cost per square inch. How else do you get the correct cost for an item! I like the GenCraft when I need to print coloring book pages to paint, since I don't have to sit and trim my paper to fit into the printer.
Ten minutes of serenity this morning. Thank you. What is the tool you used to paint the white dots in the center of the flower? If it's a stylus or some other special tool, I need it because my dot making skills are abominal!
You're welcome! And thanks for watching. That was actually a Grabie Miniature Detail Brush. I have the set linked in the video description. I have also used a dot tool (for nail art) before when I wanted more controlled circles. They work great.
opera pink is useful for mixing, for eg. muting down sap green slightly ( instead of using red to mute). I learnt this from my lessons from artist Yuliya P. ( Then indigo is the staple for darkening up greens etc)
Hope you will be telling us Alaska stories before too long. Are you settled in your house? Are you holding your grand-baby in your arms already? Return to us with a talking vid, but thanks for your lovely roses!
Hello, Angie! You are very welcome. We just set a moving date! Movers will be here in about 2 weeks. I'm frantically packing all those last minute things. LOL. An Alaska story is already in the planning. As soon as I can unpack my paints and get my studio at least sort of unpacked, I will sit down for a much needed leisurely painting and AK story. I may even tell my favorite story. I've been saving it for a special occasion and everyone has been so kind and patient throughout our long move that I think we all deserve a really good one. As for the grandbaby, yes, I've spent the last 4 months getting to help with him almost every day (well, every day I'm not at the old house packing). It has been such a joy. He is growing so fast!! Moving has been difficult, but it's so worth it to be close to them. Thank you for asking. ❤
Thanks so much! I so glad it was helpful. I have another one on this brush too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7FUSrsSZbSQ.html Everything You Need To Know To Paint Wedge Brush Petals. And I have plans for a third video on this brush. I hope to get it out in a few months.
@bealaart My hubs and I will be first-time grandparents in about 3 weeks! It makes my heart happy that you all were willing to make your kid(s) and grandbaby(ies) a priority! We have 4 kiddos, and it's our oldest daughter who will have the first! Just know that you are missed on YT, too!
@@JElias-qu2vy How exciting! Congratulations!! Being a grandparent is absolutely amazing. I'm so excited for you. You have lots of sweet days ahead. Wishing you all health and joy. ❤
Okie Dokey.. Looking through my footage, I did not get the complete drawing of the carrots for some unknown reason, but those are pretty straight forward. I'll work on getting the rest posted. Thanks!
