Awesome! Proving that a) he's so much more than "The Ballad of Serenity" from Firefly (which is what my wife knows him from) and b) you don't need an expensive guitar to sound great (that black Epiphone he plays retails for $179). Thanks for posting this!
Nice eye picking up on that inexpensive Epiphone Les Paul... thanks for calling it out and how great it sounds for $179. I'm not familiar with the old Firefly series, but from what read its a cult classic that fans still talk about. Thanks again for watching and the cool comments!
What guitarist wouldn't want to be a SRV he is the benchmark that all guitarist espier to be. Unfortunately, there will never be a blues/rock guitar player that could ever take his place. SRV put blues back on the world stage in the 80's and when fate took him from the physical world blues music died a little too. I'm just happy that there are musicians still trying to fill that void.
you bet you gotta "Drive to Survive" great song Also check out on keyboard the great Bruce Katz who has a new album out this month ?? "Back in Boston" I believe. Bruce has played with most of the greats including the Allman Bros, and Ronnie Earl.
This is from Hartford, CT (Ronnie announces it @ 16:50), and likely more than 20 years old based on the lineup, and energy packed performances centered around instrumental prowess.
Thanks for very much for watching! Definitely at the Berlin Blues Fest 2004. On the bill with Ronnie was Debbie Davies as well as my favorite Deanna Bogart who brought sax player Ron Holloway. Also earlier an excellent CT blues band... the HooDoo Band as I see vocalist for the band the late Debra Cilingan (R.I.P.). You can see her at the 30 minute mark dressed in black applauding in front of the stage next to the girl with red shirt and white cap. She was amazing to watch... I will have to see if I have footage of the HooDoo Band.
first time i seen Debbie, after her first set, being blown away, went up to her and said i never thought i would see a woman play guitar that great, wrong compliment, but i have seen her 20 times, and each time she gets better like fine wine !!!!
I guess when you are on the road playing with the great Albert Collins for a few years it really improves your game. Check out the interview I did with her that can be found mid point on the full 1 hour Debbie Davies episode "on The Blues Plate Special"... she really paid her dues getting the be the talent that she is. Thanks for your comments!
And he is a great guy... I once sat next to him for about an hour waiting for him to sign a talent release form. Waiting as he signed autographs for a long line of fans. I was amazed as he had a personal thing to say to each and every fan. He remembered details about every concert that each fan said they saw him perform... just amazing!
Don't know if you saw the comment from Mike but he says the song is: The song's called "Little Johnny Lee." The studio version's on Ronnie's album I Feel Like Goin' On from 2003.
This must be from at least 20 years ago! The giveaway: The audience aren't watching it via their mobile phone's screen like a bunch of morons! Back when people just used to chill and listen to the music and enjoy the moment. Class.
Thanks, it's Ronnie's talent, spirit and emotion that translates into great footage! For sound we like to blend a direct feed from the sound board and mix it with an ambient microphone off the Main speakers... the combination of sounds (dry off the sound board and wet off the microphone) makes for a good balance.
I studied with Ronnie at the National Guitar Summer Workshop in '92, '95, and '96. He's a huge influence and a dear friend. Thank you so much for posting this! Would you happen to know the date of this show?
It is from the 2004 Berlin Blues Fest also featuring Debbie Davis which I will post later and a very favorite of mine... Deanna Bogart (which I will also post)
