Wow! I’m a ex AF ramp guy and I’m always fascinated at the Navy Flyers because of their unique abilities. If I’m ever reborn I’m going to Navy Flight school🙏🙏👍🏻
I was a loadmaster on a c-5a . I will NOT fly on commercial airlines, unless absolutely necessary. But, I would ride on a rocket with a military pilot at the controls.
There's nothing like hitting the traps in an C-2/E-2 truly the best carrier pilots in the game because the pilot is doing all the work NO FLY BY WIRE COMPUTER TO HELP. All stick, rudders, and powerlevers. FLY NAVY
i was very anxious watching this, i cant imagine doing it. i had an uncle that was a WWII fighter pilot in the Pacific he flew off the USS LEXINGTON. he talked a little about carrier takeoff and landings.
No doubt pilot skills and the great engineering of machine and the rest of the systems but one should not forget the folks who designed the greatest training regime for the Navy pilots.
4 wires stripped……..good thing you got the OK 3 wire! 3 is career building. 4 is slightly high but not high enough for a wave off. 2 is low and not very career friendly…..especially during training. 1 is dangerously below glide path. Again not quite wave off territory and most likely will catch 1 or 2 but as a carrier aviator….trust me you won’t make a career of consistent 1 and 2 wires. Only thing below 1 is ramp strike and very career and potentially life ending. 4 is not good but at least gives you another pass. Bolter or hook skip is exactly what it means. Wave off is usually a no questions asked command. Maybe something the LSO or air boss/mini boss sees that pilot doesn’t. Previous aircraft not clear, personnel in the foul line area, equipment ….all means foul deck… Good pass and chalk another OK3 I. The log book…..OK 3 wire not only builds and develops individual pilot confidence and skill but also helps keep the boarding rate up for the squadron. Yes even though the wing works as a team for mission there is some competition to keep the “boarding rate “ up…..simply put boarding rate is the percent of traps that are OK3 both individual pilot and squadron rate. Not sure what the next generation of carrier pilots are going to do when they only build three wires. I would think that a 2 wire is the new OK3…
I'm just a private pilot. But I know a navy guy. He once joked to me that the 3 best things in life are a great dump, a great orgasm, and a great landing. A night carrier landing is all three!!
Night landings in a jet must be more stressful then anything else and if the sea is rough, OMG. We had an A6 Intruder crash on a night landing aboard the USS Midway. The co pilot ejected through the canopy and was killed and 8 guys on the flight deck lost their lives. This was during the Vietnam War. This was an 11 month cruise and stress levels had to be unbelievable at times. That was especially a horrible night for the entire ship. Many injured.
