I did our teams wet weather stint in the 6hr over the weekend, Im not fast by any stretch, Was still the hardest 40 laps I have ever driven on the sim. Was crazy hard
So how are you supposed to downshift. I was thought that you’re only supposed to downshift on the straight before the corner but I see that you are still going down gears mid corner in some cases.
As long as you don't downshift too early at high rpm (which can cause a bit of rear locking) downshifting late, low in the rpm band for a bit of added rotation is absolutely fine. It's just about the timing to not induce oversteer when the car is loaded mid corner. Can't be too aggressive.
I can never seem to get the car to feel planted to the road, I always struggle fighting with it especially whenever I try and push it more to improve lap times, it generally spins out , the suspension always seems too spongy and generally a lot of oversteer . Thanks
I will try and change things a bit, I just follow the free set ups I see on RU-vid , but yeah I struggle to get the car to turn at speed without spinning off
Thanks for this - this shows me three areas I can pick up speed significantly! Current best time is in the mid 1:39’s. Looking forward to getting back on track.
As someone totally new to sim racing - in fact any kind of driving - I'd be happy with a lap time south of 10 min. Right now my best is 10:21. Awesome work mate!
Start 0:05 Yokohama 1:19 2 buildings 2:41 Carousel 1 3:55 Carousel 2 5:35 End 6:39 Breaking it up by landmarks to help me memorize this monster. If you're watching for the same reason, there you go.
What season was it and conditions? This is from last season, so if you are comparing to a historic lap, it could be that the physics build is slightly different, the track and ambient conditions were different etc. Plenty of different reasons could be the cause.
145:21 after changing my shift pattern in two turns from your video. I experimented going down to 2nd on a few of the faster corners but couldn’t tell if it helped so I stuck with just 3rd. Now I see it does. Thanks! Now it’s just being more aggressive.
The Mustang was a free update, so no DLC was required, you just need to ensure you select the "open series" BOP in the main menu and it will be available to be selected.
Definitely not, you'd run minimum ABS and learn to modulate effectively when you are wanting to apply combined inputs (steering and brake at the same time)
@@CoachDaveHotlaps got it - did some digging after watching this and ended up with an fov similar to this. Night and day difference in driving. Thank you for the videos!
The ratios in the Mustang are very long as the cars uses the same gearset to accommodate Daytona in real life. So 6th is rarely needed in ACC outside of overtaking in the tow.
@@CoachDaveHotlaps I know even the other manufacturers in nascar still use that rear, though different sport seems logical to just use it here, reliable and predictable
It is a custom gearset for the GT3 car. They have yet to make a secondary shorter gearset for SRO and so the sim uses the one they use in WEC/IMSA that also caters for Le Mans next month.

Because 5th gear is very long and the powerband is up high for the car, you are better off revving the car to the limiter in 5th when you are on your own rather than shifting up to 6th. 6th is only needed if you are in the tow of someone else.
