Love, LOVE this recording! The speed on Suppers Ready part just added to the over-all ambiance of the song. I “felt” this song stronger than any other recording of it..
I recorded this when it was first aired. King Biscuit Flower Hour. Cudos and a big ass hoopla to you for doing what you did! This is my favorite ending to Suppers Ready. Save Nad Sylvan. You are awesome!
I went to the the Wembley gig and unfortunately they did not end with Suppers ready because Phil's voice was suffering with the chords the vocals are in,mainly to save his voice for rest of the tour . But what a good job he did.
This must have been early in the tour. Phil was all over the place and I noticed that Chester was not on the drums when Phil sat down, which they made amends of later on when I saw them in probably September or October of 8 in Philly. Chester Had 2 kids tuned separately to different parts of what they were playing and he was phenomenal. And also notice he wanted nothing of the Synpars. Overall the whole performance was a bit disjointed, but even disjointed Genesis is better than no Genesis at all on any given dae, AND TWICE ON SUNDAY!!!
Appreciate the dedication syncing everything together like this, so cool! I feel Phil's vocals peaked between Abacab and their 83 self title album. Wish they did the full Supper's Ready in this time frame, could have been so great!
In its various iterations, this medley is the finest 20 minutes of live music ever recorded. Each section is wonderfully written and arranged on its own. But when played live and strung together some kind of strange alchemy takes place and the whole becomes so much larger than the sum of its parts. I miss the Cinema Show excerpt from this version, but the Apocalypse in 9/8 section is simply astounding. Absolute genius! Thanks for all your hard work on this, Dave.
GENESIS BAND!!! GENESIS FAMILY!!! FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER!!! 🎶🎵🎶🎵💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
The audio is indeed pristine! And as somebody who has tried to do similar video / audio mating on my own stuff, I definitely appreciate the work that went into this - thank you :)
RU-vid ID confused it as the Abacab Tour 1981 version (aka Three Sides Live) The organ before and after the In the Cage solo sounds pretty similar to the 1981-1984 one (obviously without the phaser), so I kinda get the detection mistake
AFter having been a deep Genesis fan for almost 10 years, that LA Forum show was my first time to see them. Their closing the medley with "Sure As Eggs is Eggs" raised the hair on my arms...but it was then crushed flat when they followed this with "Invisible Touch." Ouch.
I have followed Genesis since the late 70’s and in this performance here, not sure I’ve heard a performance where Chester and Phil were so tight. Remarkable - and the entire band was similar during this same tour.
If that had been me, then I'd have just ended the show here, after the end of Supper's Ready - the rest of the gig (even if it's about 20 or so minutes) feels like an anticlimax.
I’m watching this on Phil’s birthday in 2024. I know it’s an instrumental but great to see them play Wot Gorilla live , I’m not sure I’d seen them play it live , and in inclusion in the medley of Apocalypse in 9/8. There must have been something in the air that night. Phil Collins Is The Mighty One indeed
Many thanks for providing this video /audio.. I was a teenager at this MSG Show ! Always looking for this In the Cage medley version with Supper's ready and Phil singing.
If only the geniuses that put together the Genesis Live at Wembley Stadium VHS would have changed the film in the cameras at a different point in the show the second night they recorded it back in 1987 we would have had one. Thanks for uploading this!
What a magical moment in music history, I have grand respect for Phill Collins for taking the band in new directions while respecting the source material in such beautiful ways during live music!
