@@Farrosofwarships Queen mary was a med ship in WW2. She transported Wounded soldiers to and from war zones. Just like Britanic. But she was hit by a battle ship in the same spot as Titanic with the iceberg. But she kept going. Queen mary also had German soldiers as POWs as well. She mulitasked. She had soldiers die on her. But now she is forever parked.
Alot of people mad about this post, I can understand to a degree about a 1 on 1 pit of Iowa and Yamato with Yamato coming out on top considering her gargantuan size, but the Iowa even during her WW2 config had better fire control systems, so if there's any weather she'd be in a better situation than Yamato but still can go either direction easily, as for Bismarck, yeah y'all be tripping if you think it holds a candle to Iowa, smaller guns, and less armor, while there are parts of Iowa that have little armor it was done on purpose for speed and aren't protecting anything vital in that weaker area, all critical parts of the ship have the heavier armor has armor designed to be able to stop the round equivalent to its main gun, and last time I checked it had larger guns than Bismarck, and still has better fire control systems
Considering the Iowas are the only class of the three to see combat and have all ships in class survive to become museum ships, I'd say they win by default.
I know the Yamato looks scary, and it does, but the guns are more inaccurate than my blind 103 year old great grandma, she's a paper tiger. The 6in guns on the back were more lethal than the 18.1iners cause they could put rounds on target. Still a scary ship if she hits. If
The boilers and machinery are preserved with cosmoline and orher greases and oils. The only questionable systems are the ones opened for displays. The museum is under strict orders that they cannot tamper with the preservation so that if they're recalled, they can be worked up. They wouldn't be recalled though. Uss Texas would never be worked up again. It's neglect left it immortality unfit to be serviceable.
in Bismarck's defense she was scuttled. the British hunted her down for over a week and had to stop bombarding her to have enough fuel to make it back home. if she wasn't scuttled 1 of 3 possibilities could have happened. 1) she could have been damaged enough to sink on her own, 2) drifted until a repair crew could tow her in for repairs, or 3) drifted until the until found again by the British to finish the job
The most decorated ship in Naval history. She took part in the World War ll, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the wars in the Middle East.
The u.s. Navy needs to bring them back the battleship battleship fact that are battleships are the only ones that sunk island and deleted a mountain and one of them survived to nuke drop on it by uncle Sam
