Afterward, the Monkeys storm the BlackHawks! Cyril, a helicopter pilot himself, contemplates whether he should continue the journey in a BlackHawk due to the lack of his own aircraft. However, with a fuel consumption of 600 kilograms per hour, it’s quite an expensive proposition!
Simultaneously, the Americans arrive. The aeronauts draw the attention of the BlackHawk crews. Curiously and interested, they check out the SkyMonkeys' ultralight aircrafts. Conversely, the Belgian is quite interested in the female soldier, who is already sitting in his cockpit!
And so it will be. The weather cooperates, with splendid sunshine all the way to their landing at Rovaniemi Airport, which is the official airport of Santa Claus and the gateway to Finland's Arctic capital! In other words, the SkyMonkeyyys are already very far north-but they still have 600km to go to reach the northernmost tip of the world-and that’s exactly where the comrades want to fly!
The general idea is to make it to Norway today, but the journey is long, and Finland stretches quite a way up north as it seems. Fuel won’t suffice, and Oulu looks like a suitable airport. Yet, the aeronauts decide to reroute mid-flight, considering that heading further north might be better. Kemi-Tornio becomes the target, situated already at the northern edge of the Gulf of Bothnia! And once again, the comrades confer mid-flight over the radio. There’s another option even further north-Rovaniemi. They could make it there, and it would be even more practical. Co-pilot Cyril discovers this, fulfilling his duties as radio operator and navigator after he had to abandon his aircraft in Jämi.
The comrades are airborne and flying further north! However, they’ve split into two groups; one of them, namely V-Man and the Belgians, promptly flying through a restricted zone along the coast, which will cause a bit of trouble later on.
Icelanders went weeks later to fix your mess. Sorry but it’s only stupidity to go with 13 tonn truck on road like this. Also minimum you could have do is to fix the damage you made. It’s not drama in icelandic media. You created a big damage on the road and just left it.
the road ended there anyways.. Yes, I’m operating the truck on 13 tons as it’s not completely filled with water, diesel and gear. On the 16.00R20 tires and deflated down to 2.0bars, a tire has a contact area on the ground of 0,3 square meters - all tires together 1,2 square meters. So the pressure on the ground is 1,08kg/cm² which is not so bad. Also is the width of the truck 2,5m which is about the same or less as the heavily modified Icelandic super jeeps! The truck is neither too heavy nor too wide for F-roads! And again to make things clear about the STUCK situation: It was really bad luck! We were trying to find a passage between 2 highland roads and consulted an Icelandic Ranger. He advised us to drive there - by saying: “Yes, it's possible on the track and this truck goes anywhere anyways.." But track conditions became worse - still drivable, no problem. But finally as we stayed on this way - we got stuck suddenly. The track on this particular part WAS already in a devastation condition, still I did stay on this track as I didn't want to off road it to pass the impassable part.. No signal for mobile phones - and nobody since 2 days around..! What was our options? So we dug the truck out (took us 4 days, step by step) and turned around.. Shovel and wood we brought back to the shelter where we borrowed it from plus a good amount of alcohol we deposited there as a kind of payment to whom it may concern.. I completely respect nature - in this case we just worked on a track that was destroyed before!
As mentioned in the previous episode, the Skymonkeyyys were urged by the participants of the model airplane competition on the neighboring runway to perform a low flyover. Naturally, such an invitation must be accepted, as hospitality and common courtesy demand! With that in mind, here we go, and again: don’t try this at home!! Formation takeoff followed by a formation flyover, and then straight on northward - to be continued..
..other destinations are ruled out due to the weather, as this year the weather has been playing cruel tricks on our aviators. But here, things are working out well despite the abundance of moisture in the air. After navigating through the wind turbines on the final approach, the comrades find themselves at the gas station in Paderborn!
FK9 can land, but the pilot doesnt know how to :D, ive landed at 15kts 90degree cross wind, had no choice in first go no problems(bare in mind you come in like an arrow hard to slow down but possible if you are good) :D
As we heard, V-Man had issues with the electrical system; the current draw was higher than the charging current. That's not good for an engine that relies on electric fuel pumps! However, on the test flight now, after swapping out a relay, everything seems to be okay! - Finally, it's time to go. The engines are warming up, and the Skymonkeyyys are gathering for a formation takeoff at Jämijärvi Airfield! But beware! Don’t try this at home-these are pros. The Monkeys were even asked to perform a low formation flyover at the model airplane runway after takeoff. What is strictly forbidden in Germany is highly encouraged here…!
how much does it consume? What is the tank (clear/gray/black) capacity? what is the solar power output? and how much does it cost to make a setup like this?
very very early in the morning, even before the airport officially opens, our daring aeronauts prepare their machines for the jump across the Baltic Sea. They hope this journey won't force them to bail out and splish splash into the water. There are still some uncertainties regarding the flight plans, but this is where our comrade Cyril 'The Brain' shines. Somehow, he'll make it work. - And soon the engines will roar to life, ready to take on Sweden and beyond! The airplanes are already in formation over the Baltic Sea. It's a poignant moment, warming the lieutenant's heart as a poem comes to mind: "To infinity and beyond, where dreams take flight, Adventure calls us forth, through the endless night. Our spirits soar, unfettered, hearts burning bright, The cosmos beckons, a vast, inviting light. So here we fly, on the cusp of the unknown, Bound by the thrill, where true explorers are shown. Our laughter echoes, our spirits unflown, Through the universe's door, together, we've grown." - In just a few minutes, the Swedish coastline comes into view. The Belgian pilot had fallen asleep from the monotony over the sea, but more so from the long night before in Stralsund. No matter, the autopilot guided him safely over to Scandinavia.
