Welcome to my channel! You can find various videos on this channel, usually elevators.

I live in California, and most of my elevator videos were filmed in California, but I have also filmed elevators in other states, and even Canada.
I have filmed elevators in:
California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Indiana, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maine, Ontario, Canada, and Quebec, Canada.

I hope you enjoy my videos!

I try to keep my videos clean (as in, nothing offensive), but if any part of any of my videos has anything that you think could be offensive, please tell me, and I will likely edit the video.

If you want to contact me privately, you can use my email address, but note that I may not check it often (if you want a quick reply, post a comment on my channel so I know you sent me an email).

This absolutely *does not* surprise me... I live in a 75 year old building in NYC. This elevator in my building is quite similar in nature to that one.

I was in one in the 1960's in a home in Lexington Kentucky my relatives name as Virginia a relative of the late actress Particia Neal she had a cousin named Evelyn Mahan, Evelyn was my paternal grandfather's sister, I rode in it once it was next to the fireplace you could see the bricks of the fireplace as we rode up.

This elevator is actually in an office building, not a home. It's installed by Home Elevator Co., who installed elevators in both multi-family residential buildings and commercial buildings.

This elevator is now having weird controller issues. On the second floor the indicator will show 3 and voice announces "third floor". The elevator have also now gotten vandalized.

Was the elevator in a commercial building or apartment house? Basement or overhead?

Office building. Overhead traction.
@TheTheo58

@@upanddownadventures I thought this was the case commercial building since an elevator like this would require 3 phase AC. I recall from my childhood a glass elevator (landing doors) geared traction era 1930's at the downtown Berkeley main library. The elevator was similar to this one. It was removed in the mid 70's replaced with a hydralyic elevator.

The disconnect panel is actually the secondary one, there is a primary one or a circuit breaker would be located in the electrical room. The "ball" within the the hydro line is a muffler, yes the tag is a lock out indicating the machine is being serviced, maintained.

1:45 On reddit someone said MRLs apparently aren't allowed in California for a while, so it could be a gen2 motor in a tiny machine room before they were allowed.

As far as I know, in California the controller specifically must be located in it's own room. It is allowed for the motor/machine to be in the hoistway.

Do you remember what building this was, i.e. was it a parking garage? I'm trying to find the garage used in the opening scene of The Driver, where Ryan O'Neal steps off one of these belt manlifts.
@upanddownadventures
@upanddownadventures Месяц назад
Yes it was a parking garage in downtown Los Angeles. I would have no idea if this was the filming location for the movie though. As far as I know, valets would typically use these manlifts to move between floors and park/retrieve cars. This garage doesn't have any valet service that I'm aware of, so that may explain why it's decommissioned. Parking garages aren't the only location these can be found, although it's probably the most likely place you would see one as a member of the public.
@raymond_rayder
@raymond_rayder 22 дня назад
@@upanddownadventures No worries. I found the one I was looking for, with a ridiculous amount of detective work! It's not even downtown, incidentally, so I was looking in the wrong place for ages. I've no idea if the belt manlift is still there, but I'll hopefully get to visit myself at some point.

I don't know if I am comfortable saying, given that they didn't want the location disclosed. I will say that it's a building that seems to be locked 24/7, and I was able to contact the building's office, and someone who I think may have been the building manager let me in.

@upanddownadventures

@johnoconnor4019
@johnoconnor4019 Месяц назад
@@upanddownadventures So manual elevators without full-time operators are not usually public?
@upanddownadventures
@upanddownadventures Месяц назад
@@johnoconnor4019 Pretty much always yes. In fact manual elevators can be operated improperly, such as overshooting the top/bottom floor which will cause some elevators to shut down, and closing the doors from the outside, which can lead to being locked out of the elevator. For that reason I wouldn't suggest operating a manual elevator if you don't know what you are doing.

The tallest hydraulic elevators I came across were 9 floors high in the administration building of my old college. They were very slow. I'm surprised this elevator was not traction, 200 + feet to inset the cylinder and the size of the power unit required to lift 200 feet up.

This elevator likely went into alternate recall. This happens when a fire alarm initiating device is triggered on the recall floor. If the fire key switch is turned on after alternate recall, it will recall to the main floor instead.

@upanddownadventures
@upanddownadventures 2 месяца назад
This video was filmed very recently (roughly 1 week ago), so even if the mod has started by the time of your visit, one original car should be running. I will note that (at least according to signs) many if not most UW buildings close at 5 pm on weekdays and are closed on weekends (although these elevators serve a parking garage, so they might be open later in the day, unsure about weekends) Some public university campuses have a webpage that lists recent/upcoming bids, and "Meany Hall Elevator #188-189 Replacement" is listed (which would be these two cars). What cities are you visiting? Tacoma is fairly close to Seattle, and if you like vintage elevators there are a few elevators that may be worth the trip. I also visited Portland, but haven't uploaded any videos from there yet.
