A channel mostly dedicated to Yamaha Disklavier and PianoDisc player piano systems and also to PD Remote (Great app for PianoDisc iQ and Prodigy) and PianoStream best app EVER for practically all pianos with midi compatibility. Channel also includes a few other goodies.
1.All pins are different in their head position, tuning heads will not fit all equally. 2. Not all strings are the same amount out if tune . 3. With huge torque if pins your hand will go numb with such short lever handle and weight of the hammer. Will not work out.
Hi Richie-discovered your channel! Great information here. I own a Yamaha C7 MKIII Disklavier with a DRC500 RW XG. I am desperately trying to figure out how to send midi files (standard midi files from ProTools) to the Disklavier. Everything I’ve tried has not worked. Would you be able to offer some help or guidance? Are you available for consultation? Thank you!
Hello! I imagine you could simply plug in a Widi master and then connect to it with ProTools if the software has that capability which I assume it does. Make sure that you slide the little switch on the back of the Mark lll Control unit over to mid. Feel free to shoot me an email! Hayesiq@gmail.com Thanks 😊
Yes! Please send me an email and I will give you my cell phone and I can explain all of this. It’s been a long day! But once again, yes! Hayesiq@gmail.com
Hello yes. I made a playlist which includes every single detail of the upgrade. If you would like me to send you that playlist shoot me an email and I will. The reason that it’s not here is that it’s like 12 videos that took up too much space and made things a little monotonous, but they are super short and simple to follow!
Saved me a lot of time on a 2008 endeavor for anyone reading the air intake has a bracket under it it’s a little tricky but as long as you undo the hoses and the two bolts on the bracket you don’t need to worry about the long bolts he had to take out and loosen Also if you have a misfire don’t just replace the spark plug take the ignition coil of the spark plug you are replacing and move it to one of the front ones you can get to easily that is if it’s in the back, but that way if it misfires again, you know, it’s the ignition coil that you moved
Hello! Yes it does! It works with all pianos that have Midi in/out ports. you’ll use the digital side of the app to access the midi player. Then you will connect to a wireless midi device like the Yamaha md-bt01 or the Widi master. Both of which you can purchase on Amazon for about 50 bucks.
Hey Richie. I’m a musician and electronic producer in Memphis TN. I am trying to figure out if I can use the PianoDisc system MIDI input to compose in real-time from the output of my laptop or MIDI controller/sequencer. Is that possible? I have access to a Grand with a PDS-128 system installed on it
That was the device I was just about to acquire … to use with my old ‘Wagon Grand ‘ Disklavier …. If you happen to be able to know if one available… please do let me know 🙏🏽
Richie - thanks for your awesome work. I have one of these pianos. I bought the Yamaha DKC850 to work with this. The power supply blew up and took a while to get a new one back. It is working now. However, the music sounds broken. Do you have any tips or perhaps a video on how to connect the DKC to MX100 II? There is no connector for this, so perhaps you can shed some light on it for me please! Appreciate your inputs
Hello, sorry about the delay in getting back to you I just saw this message! So yes you can connect to your MX 100 using midi cables/ and you can also use Pianostream anyway, maybe we can chat next week my email hayesiq@gmail.com
Did you just flip the DIP switches to go into DKC850 mode, or is there something else you did? Where did you get that cable? Did you have it made? Sounds great…
Hello. The dkc900 is not compatible with your the mark3. And as you have noticed the Dkc 850 is super hard to come by nowadays I don’t have one right now, but I do still see them occasionally. Feel free to stay in touch with me!
Hi, is it possible with this method is it possible also to play vocal from speakers in the same time of the piano like it happen in the latest version of enspire ?
Hello. For now it’s only possible with pianos that have analog. MIDI in. Those include PianoDisc pds228, prodigy and iQ. Also works with Yamaha markIll, MarkIV, e3, dkc850, dkc900 and enspire. You can also use a device called DCD1 by Yamaha which works with everything out there.
Prayin you see this comment!! Did you convert to the 115 V to run off a normal 15-amp circuit? I'm new to welding and got this exact machine from my boss. Also, what rod type and size do you use for 115? Is the manual correct that you cannot run more than 70 amps off 115 V so 1/16 or 5/64?? Thanks Richie!
Just to be clear though this works great with Pds128, pds128+ and CD only. I don’t recommend that you use it with an IQ system and I haven’t tested it on a PDS 228.
Richie, I have the DKC5R controller, which has the floppy drive, installed on an Yamaha MX85 upright piano. It has failed and I have tried to install MIDI cables, with an iPad using CUBASIS LE3. I connot seem to get it to work. I am looking for either suggestions for options, or where I could purchase a replacement box. By the way your video is very informative, thank you
Excellent video and much appreciated here in Maine. Mark IIXG DKC-850 with Line Mixer, and Speaker...DO I need anything else? You mention a OLD Controller? and Where are the MIDI/Songs (LIST) located??? OH on the sample CD...:) Do you know a Disklavier TURNER in Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire. Thank you
Hello! Just shoot me an email. Hayesiq@gmail.com I will tell you, however… There really isn’t an upgrade available right now except for the Dkc850, which is kind of hard to get, but there are some other streaming options that we could talk about! Thanks 😊
Richie Richie Richie! My friend's parents have owned a PDS228 for almost 2 decades. They'd never used the player piano function. They weren't interested in spending a fortune gathering outdated player piano floppy disks and WHO COULD BLAME THEM? I made it my mission to give that piano a chance to shine in the modern era. I've learned so many things from your videos and would like to share my solution process. I bought some 1.44 mb disks online. I hooked up the MD-BT01 to the MIDI in but needed to supply power (as you've explained). I know you make custom power cables, but I wanted to try my hand at it. Here is what worked for me: MD-BT01 MIDI out -> female to female midi adapter -> MIDI to USB power cable -> USB wall charger. It ran me about 20 dollars. I formatted the floppy disk in the PDS228, switched to passthrough, convinced them to subscribe to PianoStream and BOOM! It was a happy happy New Years Eve for everyone! PianoStream is a beautifully designed app by the way. You really thought of everything. Now I have two questions for you: 1. Is there a way you could allow PianoStream to reorient with rotated devices? I'm not sure what goes into that, but the device that streams to my friend's PDS228 is a sideways wall-mounted iPad. 2. The player piano volume is stuck on my friend's piano. It believe it's a Yamaha DU1A upright. As mentioned before, it uses a PDS228. It's unpleasantly loud for casual use. They claim it had that issue when they bought it, but I would like to fix it if I can. Do you have any leads that come to mind? Thank you for putting so much effort into all that you do. I mention your brilliance every time I talk about player pianos. You really have created something amazing and have brought a lot of joy to others. Have a great day and I look forward to hearing from you!
Hey Richie, I hope you don't mind me contacting you. I'm trying to work on an old PianoDisc PDS128S+ and I've run into a wall troubleshooting. The Problem - The keys don't move when called for by the PDS128S+ Things I've done: I've checked the power supply, all the fuses are ok. There is 40V DC coming out of the one plug going to the solenoid control board The test button in the back does nothing The PDS128S+ turns on and plays floppy disks through the speaker (background) I've checked to make sure Piano is in the On position I can pres 1 and 4 to go to setup mode but there is no response from any of the keys when I cycle through them. I'm not sure what I should be checking next. Do you have a troubleshooting guide or perhaps any suggestions or recommendations on what to try next? Thank you for your videos. Been watching them to help with the issue.
Thank you so much. I spent hours going over the regulation for only a slight improvement. Until I found this video. Can I lubricate the solenoids? What to use? Thanks for all your help.
Hello you can use a little bit of protek although it’s not recommended but sometimes we don’t have a choice! So just be careful when you use it. Protek 1406 Cleaner, Lube and Protectant, 4 oz Bottle a.co/d/9TiyQDz
Yes! Pianostream works incredibly well with pds128+ You can plug the yamaha md-bt01 into the back of the pds128+ and use the bypass mode or you can plug directly into the midi in on the cpu but you’d need my adapter. Please look through my videos and you’ll see pds128+ systems and how they work with PianoStream
Hey, I have the grand wagon… ir light up but show nothing on the screen ): try to update with usb emulation thinking could the the reader but stays the same… any suggestions?
Hello! If the piano keys won’t play at all even though the display is on your power supply is probably bad. Feel free to send me an email. 😊. Hayesiq@gmail.com
Richie, thanks for the technical videos on the DKC-850. I have a question regarding the DIP switches. Do you know if there's a setting for the Audio Output level? The first thing I noticed when I replaced my old controller (a MKIII DC3) was the volume produced by the sound module on the new DKC-850 was too low. Even with the balance set to maximum. When I saw you discussing the various DIP switch settings, it made me think of the low volume on my DKC-850 so I thought I'd ask.
Hello. I know that you can push the balance button on the remote control and turn up all of the different volume levels which show up all the way to 127. You’ve probably seen the volume controls under the piano, and he definitely can crank those up. And then one other trick is to plug the audio RCA jacks into the Omni sync out instead of the regular audio. And if you still can’t get enough volume, you could simply add a preamp to audio output rca jacks. Does that make sense? As in boost that signal right where it comes out of the dkc850. Hope that helps a little bit. Keep me posted! :)
@@hayesiq A pre-amp or mini mixer would work. I have the sense that the audio out of the old controller was at the 'pro-level' +4dBu (1.288v RMS) and the DKC-850 has a consumer level output (-10dBv or .0316v RMS). When I saw you explaining some of the DIP switches, I thought Yamaha might have one to switch the output level from consumer to pro. Alternatively, the old controller had its audio signals going out on the D-SUB (15-pin?) piano controller cable which brings the signal inside the amp where the input would correctly match the level of the controller's output (either pro-level or, consumer level). The DKC-850 has RCA outputs which are almost always consumer level audio outputs. Those outputs are routed to the 1/4" inputs on the built-in amp (which are typically pro-level +4dBv). So that's my theory on why there's a noticeable volume difference. The live piano always overwhelms the accompanying instruments. That wasn't the case previously. Another option might be to design an adopter where the audio out from the RCA jacks on the DKC-850 connect to the 15-pin control cable through an adapter box (something you have some expertise in designing). If I knew which pins carried the audio to the amp, I could play around with that. The volume and balance settings on the controller, also accessible with the remote plus the volume and tone controls on the amp under the piano used to be able to adequately balance with the live piano. There's also a volume control on the silent piano switch box which I think is only active in silent mode. I don't know if you happen to have the DKC-850 manual, on page 12 there's a photo showing the hookup for different scenarios. One section says, for pianos with silent piano, connect to the Aux-in mini stereo plug on the silent piano control box (but there's no aux-in on my piano's silent piano controller box). At the same time, it says, if your piano has a built-in amp, connect to the 1/4" phone plug inputs on the amp. So that's where my DKC-850 is currently plugged in.
Good video. I would like to upgrade my Mark IV to Enspire. I believe I can handle installing all of the equipment but I have read the upgrade kit does not come with instructions???? I cannot imagine that is correct. Once upgrade is complete what else needs to be done? My kids used to play but I do not. I use it mainly for Diaklavier Radio.
Hello. Player Piano Radio is not the same as Disklavier Radio. It’s a simple solo piano app which works on all Disklaviers that have analog midi inputs and those are: Marklll, e3, dkc850, dkc800, MarklV and enspire. Disklavier Radio is a service through Yamaha which works on MarklV (I believe) e3 and dkc850 set to REPLACE and on enspire.
Hello. They are hard to find right now. Sometimes you can find one on eBay and once in a while I get my hands on one. Please send me an email if you’d like to talk more about this. Thanks :) Hayesiq@gmail.com
