Adam. Thank you for your explanation on such a “misinterpreted” subject. I have been taking picture exclusively with an OSC camera and have been thinking of starting Mono as soon as my budget allows. The doubt that I still have is what type of filters I should get. Reason tells me I should start with LRGB but, it appears that in many cases I would prefer to use Ha, OIII, SII. I would appreciate your opinion and advice on this. Thank you.
@AdamBlock
@AdamBlock 2 дня назад
For most people..the brightness of the sky determines the answer. Under light pollution narrowband is the way to go. However, dark sky is always best... LRGB is still a bit "faster" since you get more light through the system under dark skies.

14:53 I asked ChatGPT if "MiB" means "Megabytes" in this context and this is what it said: No, “MiB” is not used to mean “megabytes.” “MiB” stands for “mebibyte,” which is a unit of digital information storage defined as 2²⁰ bytes, or 1,048,576 bytes. This is different from a “megabyte” (MB), which is typically defined as 10⁶ bytes, or 1,000,000 bytes. The distinction between “MiB” and “MB” is important in fields where precision is required, as they represent slightly different amounts of data. The use of “MiB” follows the binary system (based on powers of 2), while “MB” follows the decimal system (based on powers of 10).
@AdamBlock
@AdamBlock 4 дня назад
Interesting. Thank you. In this particular case the distinction is not useful and there is no precision. The fact it shows us a number is not necessary. All we need to know is if there is information cached or not...not the size.

Excellent video Adam! I will be placing my order for the Fundamentals soon. I have put it off too long. It's time to understand what I am doing as opposed to sliding levers or changing values in the hope it looks better. I don't know if Fast Track is where to begin as I have been working in PI for a while. I know how to do things not why to do things. Any ideas where someone who has some experience should begin? Just FYI the repository link you have for the Image Blend Script didn't work for me. I copied it from the PI web site, and it worked fine. You might want to take a look.

@@AdamBlock ok good lol. I usually try to dim the stars with Image blend as I have had a real tough time with all the Cygnus targets having a billion tiny stars in the images hiding the nebulae. Maybe I can boost the nebulae and not have to dim them so much
@rostokko87
@rostokko87 7 дней назад
Any reason for not using ImageBlend to also screen the stars into the final image?
@AdamBlock
@AdamBlock 7 дней назад
You could. There is an additional benefit for ScreenStars that I am not taking advantage here in this video- avoids is an issue where stars in strongly colored nebulosity take on the hue of that region. That is the reason in general. However, you need the original image with stars embedded in the nebula to take advantage of this math.

It's a very good piece of software to cheese it. But, no photoshop version? LOL, a money loss for the guy who made this, majority uses photoshop cause already work in other fields. I will never buy pixinsight, 300 more vat for that? Majority of people are not professionals, we do it cause is a hobby, and we will keep doing it. So, for me is a non sense. When your images already good, pixinsight or photoshop do the same, that's called diminishing returns.

When adding the Nebula with out stars image to the base image it just shows a black preview, same with adding blend image the stars image. am I missing something? That gets really hard! The combinatorial codes I need to manage will be significant. Comet Academy, Mosaics, NB Fasttrack and more... My preference is that people get ONE course and then Horizons. I’m wondering how this darkframe method performs when you have a sensor with a lot of amp glow. Wouldn’t you end up with a lot of “hot pixels” in the part of the frame where the amp glow manifests itself?
@AdamBlock
@AdamBlock 20 дней назад
Excellent question. The answer is apparently just fine. The developers worked on precisely this situation and are proud of their results. I suspect the multi-scale treatment of the image does something to avoid amp glow being an issue. However, they have not shown the exact method/math.
