Wonderful music played wonderfully. Try for fun to listen to "Bach in Brasil" with Camerata Brazil. They play this piece with guitars/mandolin and piano, and it sounds fantastic.
Why does nobody, but really nobody from more than 20 of these RU-vid videos, perform the Gavotte from this 5th French Suite as a true Gavotte? Well known or unknown, they all get it wrong. Is that too strong language from an unknown like myself? But read on, and I'll prove it. Like all Gavottes it starts with a double upbeat, three-four-ONE-two, three-four-ONE-two. But everyone plays it as if the first note was the first beat of the bar, the DOWNbeat. Prokofiev got it right in his 'Classical Symphony' parody: "diddle diddle DUMPy DUMPy DUMPy", now THAT's how a Gavotte should go. Peter Freyhan.
When the flames have their season Will you hold to your reason Loaded down with your talents Can you still keep your balance? Can you live on a knife edge?
I think, that this Ouverture in French Style is "une piece de resistance" for any pianist. To my mind, this interpretation of Andras Schiff is the first reference.
How can art be so close to perfection? Bach himself would be surprised of the heights of his music played on a piano by Sir András. Thank you for this gift!
