SVS is a great company. They helped me through an issue that they frankly didn't need to and had my interests in mind as much as their own. That support experience is one I won't forget. My theater will always have SVS subs in it and these towers are tempting.
I wanted to buy these buy the idle power is 60 watts/channel according to the AI talker on the Schitt site. That's more than my Parasound JC5. I don't want a Class D amp, but the high end D;s are suppose to be sounding better on the high end. Any suggestions?
The white accents are jarring. The question of a flat response versus more of a 'fun' sound is a good one. Bass cannons can't be beat for some music, like my ridiculous Yamaha YH E700As, but neutral cans like my little Senny HD250BTs sound much more natural.
The question I detect that manufacturers of high-end phones are asking is "how do we build headphones that are quite satisfyingly fun and natural?". They want to strike a balance. And the Harman curve is in fact an estimate of what that requires (problem being that the curve is hard to track or OEMs are finding the curve isn't quite right). Maybe this is made impossible due to the variations in recordings, but in our experience, the recorded deviations from some imagined neutral balance aren't huge. And OEMs are asking because at these price points fewer listeners will have multiple pairs of headphones. And few (?) listeners will tolerate having to try different headphones on each recording to find the "right" one. Or having to carry multiple headphones. None of that should stop people from having multiple sets of headphones if they enjoy changing things up, of course!
I think you raise an important point. I would suggest that most people can, indeed, pick up the "distinct and subtle sound qualities" of high-end headphones (or other audio gear). And, as you put it, most importantly they can appreciate the sonic result. Reviewers, me included, tend to break things down into words, which seems necessary to explain what we hear to others, but is a sometimes unnatural act for the ultimate listener. But if someone struggles to put what they hear into words, we shouldn't conclude that they aren't hearing the phenomena. That said, I have also run tests with untrained listeners and they are often quite good at noticing differences and putting some words to what they hear. I generally think listeners would do well to be more confident about their listening capabilities. And reviewers should be more encouraging!
Good expose, I have the Red and no issues. At the moment on the market for a dac. This has the diminutive size thats provides desktop and pocket solutions in one which is great, I could plug this into a PC leave it there with e 3,5mm jack to twin RCA plug it into the amp and forget it whilst retaining the portable phone option. My other two choice are the Topping DX3 Pro Plus and the Fiio K11. The Fiio K11 is the best value here and probably wont fall short in delivery of sound either.
Man that LCD display looks crappy. It looks like the designer didn't take into account how many pixels where actually on the display and the words are actually being cutoff by the end of the display. That doesnt scream Gold standard to me unless his unit is scratch and dent or just defective.
6:48 That recession in the vocals ….like my LCDX (2021 Creators Edition) ..fabulous on music(OST) ,edm and intimate recordings…for vocal centric music..Sen’s 650’s on tubes .
I think you would find these to be significantly different from the 650s with a tube amp. Whether you would like the increase in transparency is another matter. Worth a try, I would say. In the interest of science...
@@carminedesanto6746 No, the Empyrean 2 is actually USD$$2,999.00, just as Thomas mentioned in this video. Furthermore, the Susvara can be purchased for USD$4,500 directly from HiFiMan.
No HDMI is a show stopper for a living room speaker. Erin’s Audio corner’s measurements show these are not forward at all. Actually Harman’s text book 5dB drop from bass to treble. You are probably use to rolled off highs or a bunch of room sound (reflections). Just tow them out 20% and call it done. I would take the JBL 708p over these all day long as they sound the “same” and have actual EQ that is adjustable and setup is far more flexible.
i love svs but 4 g's for a pair is not budget friendly imo. thats why i am glad i went vintage and picked up a pair of Energy APS5+2 for 1k that i think can hang with anything modern many times that price.
I had my unit upgraded to the Dark version - love it. I've got a Gustard R26 (ladder) DAC, BlueSound Noded w/LPS, Magnepan LRS+ speakers - amazing with jazz. What equipment was used in your review???
It appears that curved protrusion above the woofer is a defraction problem which is unfortunate as without that I expect it would kick arse and is good/excellent as is.
She doesn't know what she's talking about. the hesitations, stops, starts and restarts, plus her glances at the teleprompter, and her constant rising intonation, indicates she is totally at sea with the content, and context. But I thought that was supercool... like, whatever?
I achieved perfect bass integration with my Maggie 1.6's and 2 Vandersteen 2w subwoofers. This along with biamping with tubes on midrange and treble with transistors on bass I have the best of both worlds. I also recommend rigid stands (Myesound) for the Maggie's. With these some Maggie owners may not need subwoofers, depending on their room. They will certainly improve the bass and everything else across the board! I got the best results by not using the passive crossover that came with the subwoofers. The bass blend is seamless and musical. With or without the passive crossover the subwoofers totally disappeared. No, I don't think subwoofer integration is all that difficult. I mentioned this on other channels.
I with you have a ST-1200 Mk7 table and love it . York phono Stage, Audio Space AS-i3 tube amp Casta B horn speaker GraceF9 HanaML, AT VM740Li, Astatic MF-200
“For home theatre I definitely prefer unported” - does that mean you prefer the foam plug IN the port or OUT of the port for home theatre? Sorry, this was a bit confusing. Hoping the bass is considerably faster with the foam plug IN the port, I’m also very picky when it comes to bass. Thanks for the review :) greetings from Australia
"well" is an adverb; "good" is an adjective. Listeners feel good when gear sounds good. Gear does not sound "well" under any circumstances. Nothing sounds well, other than people whose health has recently been in question. Get it right, it's embarrassing.
how often do you have to change the stylus (what shape ?) and what is the cost ? What is the tracking force of "this thing" ? A comparison to the VM760SCL or to the Orthofphone 2M 250 LVB both for about 1.000 Euro
I've had my Maggie 1.6's since 2005. I've been biamping them with tubes on midrange and treble with transistors on bass along with stereo subwoofers. The 1.6's have biamp and biwire terminals that's why I can biamp them this way. That makes me already ahead of game on that note. The 1.7's have only a single set of terminals and have to be biamped with monoblocks. What they are planning in the video sounds great and biamping has always been the way to go with Magnepans, especially with the larger models. Maggie's have always been, and will remain a high end product.
This new Radia series from Arcam is awesome. I wish wish wish they made a pre-amp with XLR inputs and outputs too, not just the integrated amp (without balanced in/out ...)
I had similar experience with SVS prime tower. Would occasionally hear things behind me, for 2 c channel listening, they were bright and fatiguing, with the bass lacking, but cable of going deep. Amazing imaging, and would just disappear. Great for movies, and great in many ways for music, but would often turn up too loud to get bass, and then my ears were damaged, ringing from the mods and highs. People would say, your amp is not big enough. So upgraded to Rotel 200 Watt amp, no difference. Switched to Polk R700, which were better in many ways, but cannot disappear, and took a single ended tube amp to get the same level of imaging. But still can’t get audio to come from behind me like with SVS. Cleanest, tightest bass comes from acoustic suspension, sealed enclosures. Speaker companies have gotten away from this…too many bass reflex designs now. Love your music list. AWOL nation, sail…glad I am not the only one.
Ground filtering is total BS !! The "noise" is constant and gets less in proportion as the signal gets larger. It's called "Signal to Noise Ratio." His perception is just belief confirmation bias.
