@@ChenEric-gy2hr this is painted with Tamiya. Dark Yellow 2, Red Brown and Nato Green. I like these colours best for soft edge German camo. I don't have any experience with other ranges to confidently give equivalents.
I got the greenworld stuff version, I don't know if its made of the same material, it does look really similar, don't use it on resin kits, I made that mistake with Battlefront resins and it "contaminated" most of my putty with resin particles.
Cool video. I haven't actually painted any of FoW stuff yet but I'm having fun assembling them here but that dot camo might be beyond my attention span LOL
Have fun with the painting. It can be very rewarding. Stay off camo patterns on Google though, or one day you too will want to paint disc camo! If you have any painting questions, just get in touch.
Great video Frank. I use the same putty but have found that larger blobs (ie with greater volume) is that the putty properties of self leveling causes it to spread out causing issues on 3 tone camo (like you saw with the small areas in your vid). Be interested to know if you try and how you overcome. Best Phil
@@philiphale2785 indeed! I regularly airbrush in excess of 15 tanks in a session. That wouldn't be practical with the Black stuff but I rarely have that many hard edge to paint.
I was surprised how well the black stuff worked at this scale. But Blu tac does work best for the smallest areas of masking as Black stuff's lower adhesiveness struggles to stay attached. So it's a combination of both going forward I think.
Eyes are not easy for sure. You need a brush with a good tip, paint that will flow reliably in one pass and line up the brush so you can paint the eye from the side, not face on. That is an easier stroke to make on such a small area. Then it's a simple little black dot for the pupil. Do all this before painting the rest of the face and you can easily correct errors. I hope that helps.
Dust up is a fine mission and do not need to change. The reason it drags out is you both decide from the start that you need to wait for reserves. The objectives are live from the start, meaning an all out attack is more than possible. When you repeatedly end up with games being draws, it is most often a player problem. Statistically 1/6 games end in draws, with some cases being more, for example D vs D in meeting engagements. Winning quickly of cause require the players to think of the 60% on table and what they are capable of, so maybe try the next time to build a list with 60% that actually can work on it's own. Knowing the your opponent won't get reserves before at the earliest turn 3 is a real help, when attacking swiftly.
My experience in Dust Up is that aggressive players lose as the attack falters between fire from the on table forces and the reserves. But infantry based lists are probably less likely to succeed in this mission in any case. Still, going for it early might at least make for a more entertaining batrep!
Scotland has sent an ETC team twice, both over ten years ago. And both times only two of the team were based in Scotland. There's not been an appetite for the ETC in the Scottish scene.
I'm glad you like the guides. Thanks for your support. I'll be adding to the playlist as much as my painting commissions allow. The British Infantry were a great subject.
Excellent tutorial. A bit of historical info not a criticism there where no Peadot helmet covers so oakleaf autumn and spring would have been used. Noticed you have some dotted around. But as wargamers say artistic license allowed to make things look good.
Nice wee video and i just used your code for the brushes .. I have just started to paint warlord figures .. i don't game . i do it just for some head space .. i am a bit confused about what paints your using .. this painting hobby can be a drain on my funds .. any info would be great thanks
Hello, I use Vallejo paints which are a fantastic range. The colours used are listed in the description. Buying paints can be expensive. I find myself using core colours to keep costs down. The list will help you focus in on colours you will need. I have done this across lots of the painting guides. Check the channel playlists. Any questions, just ask. I hope you enjoy the brushes and happy painting!
Sorry about that! It was a draw. Peter had to use his Lucky card to pass what would have been a formation break and we called it after that due to the time taken.
The 'Fez' wearing character is actually a gunner/loader called 'Turk'. The driver/mechanic character called 'Moriarty' is the guy who frequently hits the 'Oddball' character with unhelpful, (if accurate) comments which 'Oddball' describes as 'Negative Waves". (The FOW/Battleground kit doesn't include some other features or additions visible on the 'movie' tanks. You could add a 'drainpipe' type thingy, (maybe a brush sleeve?) which 'Oddball' says the crew slot over the 75/76mm tank gun to make it look like a 105mm monster ("Scares the Germans...") and some externally stowed 'paint rounds' (were there such a thing???) that feature in the movie. For Real Detail Nerds the scenes in the movie where the Sherman unit first appear feature them 'laid up' or 'off duty' and have features like 'sun shades' on the turrets and even 'woven carpets' used as 'tarpaulins' to give the crew, (and their local girlfriends!!!) some shelter... (Actually a pretty nice touch as it implies these guys have maybe served in North Africa before being deployed to NW Europe?) For modellers who want to do this for themselves, (the original kit now deleted) it's not too big a problem to 'scratch build' the extra stowage themselves. Tarpaulins/carpets/boxes/buckets/milk churns and even the 'loudspeaker' are (relatively) easy to replicate using 'scap plastic' and 'Greenstuff' or 'Milliput'. The crew can be converted from Plastic Soldier Company 15mm minis (USA/Gerries/or even Brits) using a similar method. Excellent tutorial and the finished result really looks the part. xx SF
Great excuse to watch the movie again, if nothing else! Paint rounds did exist but I'm not sure if they would have been issued in NW Europe. As you have shown, this could be a great project for anyone looking to recreate the tank. Thanks for the feedback!
This was a one of tournament objective marker given by Flames of War for official tournaments a few years ago. They are rare as hen's teeth and seldom come up on ebay or trading groups, sadly.
Brilliant job, especially the characters of Oddball & Turk. I painted mine much the same but wen t a little further by adding Pvt. Kelly standing on the rear deck manning the machine gun. Mine's not based. PS: just FYI but it looks like you missed the 2 show bills plastered to the right side of the tank hull
Turk, I was hoping someone would let me know the name! Having Kelly on the rear deck is a cool touch. As for the posters, this was an out of the box commission and price precluded any further detailed work. But, if I ever find/paint one for myself that would be great detail to add. This was a great subject to paint and I'm glad to have had the opportunity.
@@PanzerSchule plz try the bulge panther list with sturmtiger lots of panther and + infanterie( without useless halftracks)and 1or 2 Kingtiger. I did several times with bulge US and allied Brits (firelys) and lost hard everytime
Hello Dave, the base colour is Tamiya Dark Yellow 2. I do not prime but that is a matter of personal choice. Some painters see it as essential and it certainly helps ensure no bleed through of the kit colour. But I apply sufficient coats of Tamiya to ensure a complete and reliable first coat. Thanks for watching.
Great tutorial just in time sfor me to start on some British Line Infantry for Sharp Practice. I am impressed with the paint brushes, and they arrived 7 days after ordering :).
Great tutorial on how you approach your painting and your technique your work is great quality and the results are excellent was great to watch and your style is top quality, was great to watch and a very good learning tutorial easy to follow and great description of what your doing as you go through the steps you take, your results are excellent looking figures your work is top notch always an enjoyable watch and your a very talented artist keep up the good work
Good game Frank, I see Peter is using those lucky dice again. Might have been tempted to have left one of the infantry units dug in on the hill to block the left hand side of the board to slow the Reserves and deny them the hill. Having said that with the dice you rolled I think it would still have been an up hill struggle!
Excellent as usual, you make it all seem so effortless! Are you going to be investing in the Pacific stuff when it comes out? I think that stuff would make for some interesting painting and basing guides.
Pacific sounds like an interesting theatre. And such a wide range of potential settings. You never know but my commission schedule will be the main driver for videos as it takes up so much of my painting time. Fingers crossed!
