Do you like video games? Do you like watching cute nerds play them and talk about social issues and game design? Do you like occasional vlogs about said cute nerds doing stuff? Do you want that nerd to be ME?
Every now and then, I think about Adam and how his rpg career was destroyed by the thoughtless moral panic of vacuous clout chasing narcissists. I guess the silver lining is that it looks like wokescolding is falling out of vogue. Gone on for so long more and more people are openly fed up with it.
Dude, I love LOVE your first looks. It's almost like you are running each system and subsystem in the back of your mind in real-time as you are reading. You are truly the quick thinker that I merely fancy myself to be. As an added bonus, I love how you never refer to that PbtA game that you were involved with by name. I doff my chapeau to you, sir.
Hey Adam! I just finished my rewatch of Court of Swords; I always wonder what the gang would have gotten up to by the end of the show... In any case, it made me look and see if you had reappeared anywhere on the internet. I totally understand if you don't want to. People online can be uh... intensely violent. But either way, I miss you. Most importantly I just hope you're doing well.
the UI is horrendous, the sound is all over the place, the animations are choppy, and they cant decide if they have only subtitles or voiced lines ... i hope the gameplay is good because that game could really use a big chunk of quality control and a more modern direction in terms of presentation
This guy made a mistake, what he did was wrong and no doubt hurt someone. The reaction to that mistake is the bigger injustice though. What crime did he commit? There's people far more deserving of their hate. His contribution to the RPG scene is immense. Dungeon World is insanely good. Kudos to Adam and Sage. The learning and storytelling content he's created or contributed to is super helpful and fun. The RPG scene is worse off without his creative content. This channel was the home of his most useful content. Sure, maybe tame compared to the more commercial channels he appeared on but the understanding of how to roleplay, the theme and content insight to the games he plays was second to none. If he returned, he'd have to re-live the mistake because the baying cancel hounds wouldn't ever let him forget, but if he's got a thick skin he could ignore their bullshit and just focus on playing, having fun and inspiring people to be creative. I'm sure there's a lot of folk that would watch and rise above the petty bullshit of unforgiving, bitter people. How long is too long, how harsh is too harsh?
I largely agree. The reaction was not measured at all. The reaction was a huge injustice. But I don't even think what he did was wrong. All he is guilty of is failing to read the room. It was a mistake, but it didn't hurt anyone, no one was "unsafe" or "hurt." Being uncomfortable, at most, is not some kind of devastating intrinsic damage. This idea that those of us who have been through trauma are delicate flowers is false. What that mistake did was opened the door for a vacuous narcissist to exploit him. (Who was just itching for someone to make a mistake like that that so that they could). People that would otherwise agree with him either used the opportunity for virtue signaling or clout chasing and turned on him. I don't want you to feel like I'm coming down on you. But I do think even humoring the idea that someone was "hurt" is a huge mistake that enables abusers. It's completely hyperbolic to suggest that. I'm sure you're well meaning, I'm sure even Adam would disagree with me given he wrote so many "safety tools" himself, but that hyperbolic language provides the opening people who want to exploit and weaponize your empathy and compassion against you are looking for. And they will bully with impunity as long as that hyperbolic language let's them position their victims as an aggressor.
I love this content. Thanks for it. Your enthusiasm, and your keen insight into game mechanics, really makes for entertaining and informative videos. I love the off-the-cuff examples with Jurgen and the pig. Epic.
Hey Adam, dunno if you ever check RU-vid comments anymore (wouldn't blame you if you didn't), just wanted to say I still miss your content and hope you're okay. Also, sorry I misspelled Ironsworn in my comment 3 years ago, woops... For what it's worth, I _still_ think you're a good human, and I still get sad now and then remembering there's no more true Far Verona (not the weird fanfic RP you did with your friends).
I miss your Burning wheel videos, I never got to finish them all. I bought the book because of you and ran a short campaign for my group. They all loved it. It definitely elevated our rollplaying game and we still use BITs in some of our roleplay focused campaigns
I'm rewatching Swan Song and it hits just as good as it did 9 years ago. You played Pi so well, I've thought about that character so many times over the years.
Hey man. I know you're done with this whole existing on the internet thing, but please PLEASE never delete your channel or your old stuff. These videos mean so much to me and I'd be devastated to lose access to them. I hope you're well. Peace and love to you.
Been playing a few games solo in the past month (Forbidden Lands and Dyngeon World) and today decided to dive back into Ironsworn to see how it feels in comparison. It is still as great as I remember. Love Ironsworn and miss Adam's content.
Lol... like, in a post scarecity world, you obviously wouldn't have a predetermined reward system... if your basic needs are met, you have to find purpose by yourself... whatever your motivation might be, accomplishing it will be your reward... that's a mechanic reflected in the setting, which you said you enjoy :D
Hope Adam takes the time to read the comments on this video if he’s ever feeling nostalgic. Hell of a lot of lasting love in here- as apposed to flash in the pan hate
Time Stamps 1:50 How does an aspiring GM get past the initial barrier of fear and inexperience that is often inherent with running one's very first game and how can they utilize the experience best to grow as a GM? 16:10 How can I use the advantage/threat triumph/despair mechanics in Age of Rebellion to create interesting levels of success and failure, as well as other games with varying levels of success and failure? 27:10 How do you handle games in which the PCs are in a position of significant authority? How do you keep that situation interesting?
18:30 onward is just so so so good. I couldn't agree more, and I think "designing for fun" is one of the biggest problems in the design community today. Miss you Adam! I would welcome more Office Hours if you were ever so inclined!
man, I'm out of the loop. I just read about what happened 3 years ago. Unfortunate situation, sorry it went down like it did. I always really liked what you had to say about RPGs and I'm a fellow Adam. Hope to hear from you again when you're ready.
