It’s nice to have a channel doing such a good sound design in this device. I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak. I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds. When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap. I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power. In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with. What would be your suggestion? Thank you!
@mbrauer3676
@mbrauer3676 8 месяцев назад
Digitakt and Syntakt has more Sound Design Power. The Strengh of the Rytm is it’s more playabilty and it’s layering. With two Engines is Layering no longer a Problem ;) Missing playability can be compensated with a Controller. It Sounds that Digitakt and Syntakt would be the better Choice for you.

Using these techniques and then sampling the result to layer on the snare engine is definitely an optimal way of doing it. It makes the sound more consistent as well. I’ve spent hours messing with this engine and I’ve never been ecstatic about what I’ve got out of it so I’m happy to see this tutorial.

Do you have to choose on everytrack if you want it to be sample or synthesis based or is it also possible to use both methods on the same track and blend them together. If thats so, do you have one filter per track or 1 filter per engine, which in this case means 2 filters per track. I'm asking the question because i want to know if it makes a difference if i use the rythm or if i can expect the same results when i try this with the digitakt and the syntakt combined. Thanks for the information. :)
@mbrauer3676
@mbrauer3676 10 месяцев назад
The sound generation can be combined with the analog engine and samples. However, after that there is only an analog filter. I tried to recreate sounds from the rythm for the syntactic, but both filters are extremely different in sound, so I didn't get the same results.

Dear Mbrauer, I really enjoy your videos on the rytm, I have learned a lot already. Thank you for that. Now I want to connect a moog dfam to the rytm and sequence with the rytm via CV (adv/clock on the dfam in) The only thing is that I do not have any idea to do it. The rytm has no cv out, the analog four does. Do Yiu have a solution for this? Hope to hear from you, Regards Jonathan
@mbrauer3676
@mbrauer3676 11 месяцев назад
Unfortunately there is no way to output CV from the Rytm. You can only spend Trigs from the Rytm. To do this you can change a track to Impulse and use the individual outs.

Try this? It's a way to control & modulate the sound of a infinite feedback delay effect... To replicate a dub echo/delay effect, which originally was created by sending a delay rtn to input back on channels of a mixer... instead of fx rtn's, & the mixers hi & low eq gains are rolled off -12db or more... & the mid band parametric eq is used to sweep the frequencys of the delay rtn sound. Before u also feed the delay rtn back on itself, thru the aux sends that are sends for the delay unit also being rtn'd. What u do with the fx lfo on the rytm, is assign it to the delays base filter cut off... I use a random lfo shape & set it to a bpm sync multi of x16. Adjust lfo speed to be a value of +/- 8... Now your random lfo shape is modulating in 1/16ths. Set the lfo mod amount to +/- 24 value... Now go to the delay unit pages, & set the base filter cut off to a value of 56... & set the width cut off to about 72... Set the delay rate/time value to 24 (dotted 8th note ddl tap) or 48 (dotted 4th note ddl tap)... dotted note delay tap times are 1 & a half note timing divisions... & are essential for the longer infinite feedback dub delay effect... Now u can turn the Rytm delay feedback to full at values of 127... U will hear that the random lfo, now modulates to a different base filter cut off frequency point with each step, it stepping in 1/16th timing... & every step it's either allowing more of the filtering open to let the infinite delay sound thru... Or filtering more out otherwise. But every step is random & it will always surprise u & remain infinitely interesting of the effect of the delays rtn effect... Sometimes it will grab moments of random values that holds the infinite delays on for longer random periods of having the delay filtering open to let it hang around & real pop its effect out on the Rytm pattern & mix of sounds in it. Psydo Elektron dub echo's. Oh & if u assign trigs on the fx sequencer too. Use the trigs to lock +/- delay width positions on steps too... U can pan delay taps to trigger taps beginning from positions within the left & right sides of the delay... on different steps of the fx sequencer... Also Elektrons reverb pre delay values, are also in sync with the bpm & clock too... eg. Value of 2 is 1/64th note, 4 is a 32nd note, 8 is a 16th, 16 is a 8th note, 32 is a 4th note, 64 is 1/2 note, 127 a whole note... 3,6,12,24,48&96 are triplet & dotted note synced timing divisions... The pre delay of elektron reverbs, are bpm synced timings too, & work to adjust it to sync timing for it, as u would for the Elektron delay fx unit? So u can also trig lock different in sync reverb pre delay values & timing on steps of the fx seq too. Use trig conditions on the fx sequencer steps & trig lock mods. & u will have different randomised delay rtn fx & also have a reverb that can change to sound big with a long pre delay & infinite decay, triggered on certain steps & trig conditions applied to its triggering % etc... & other steps will otherwise do the opposite on changes to the reverb... Short pre delay & fast decay locked settings on other fx seq steps, & steps locking all the middle ground of reverb settings too. If u read this, trust me u will find both it's delay & reverb will infinitely surprise u & become more animated in use as global fx glue in ya patterns.

My only real big wish for really improving the sound pallet of the Rytm... Is a 2nd LFO. Eventually having x3 lfo's as eventual additions to all the Digi, Syntakt & Analog Elektrons in future OS's would be fantastic...(or x2 lfo + x1 random s&h smooth or stepped shape modulator, that would only need to have a multiplier rate of x64 Max imo... Elektron could make that addition & it would be less processor hungry to squeeze in as os extras?)... But the Rytm would have a whole new pallet & spectrum of dual lfo modulated sounds to explore,.. & true Analogue drum synthesis is what u either love & praise Rytm already for, if u are ready for a drum synth... Or if not, be one of them who should not have a opinion on Rytm, as a Drum machine in comparisons to favour, drum machines? A drum synthesis machine, is a more professional & specific development, of the concepts & features of drum machines... Even 808 & 909's are drum machines... U have some adjustment of control to the drum synthesis of their circuitry for the chosen drum voices... But both are better modified to be more tunable & flexible... & folks who don't get it with the Rytm... Imo, are those who didn't own one, or know one well enough to understand its a Analogue drum synthesis machine... U have to use that lfo, assign parameters to the multiple velocity slots, choose a vcf option & shape a vcf env on the Rytm's various algorithm machine options to start from... etc etc. & every sound can be tuned to the key of music u are using too... That is what really got me hooked on programming beats on Elektrons & some other modern day groovebox drum synthesis based devices now... It's very cool to modulate bpm synced lfo things & have modelled or true vcf filter options & control on drum synthesis osc's... Every drum osc type in Rytm, can be tuned & sequenced as a melodic percussion sequence, which is also being a micro melodic riff created from the notes in the scale of a key your in... Thanx for the Rytm tutorial videos, ace to see u get the Rytm of what beat this box marches to... We own a OG tr-909... & my Rytm is every bit as dynamic & punchy as the classic 909 output sound is. U can really tell what is the hybrid of Analogue drum circuitry of that era, on a 909 kick etc. My Rytm does sound as dynamic & full as the classic Analogue circuitry of the better parts & sounds of our 909... But the 909 isn't in the same league of inspiration & depth... Best true Analogue drum synthesis machine developed so far imo.

Agreed. As much as I love the Rytm in buckets and spades, they really need to put a second LFO and filter in there. It would take it to a new dimension.

What is the benefit of using cv to change values as opposed to doing this stand alone? I can see, as you mentioned - being able to control multiple values without using the performance mode would be great but otherwise, why use cv?
