Welcome to IHYLS or I Hope You Learned Something. I'll be talking about History, for the most part, with some dabbling into politics, current events, and maybe some other stuff, who knows.
There was an aircraft plant in Nashville operated by Vultee making the out-of-date A-35 Vultee Vengeance. If that had been allocated to build the TBY by early 1943, production aircraft could have been coming off the line in the fall of 1943. Then the aircraft could have been worked up to squadron level by the spring of 1944 with combat debut in the summer of 1944.
B & V were good at building ships, I say it would be better to have a twin engine design so the prop is not an issue when aiming at ground targets. The 110 was a starting place with many directions to go.
British Mosquito was designed so that sub structures could be sub contracted to small furniture manufacturers and boat builders to increase and disperse production.
11:00 I think that "slight upward angle* of the 20mm guns is roundabout 45° and theyre actually mounted right behind the pilot. It was pretty much a Schräge Musik type arrangement. That particular variant, along with both others in the video and one more are all in Warthunder.
One sign of Imperial Japanese military dysfunction was that the Navy version of the Zero had a different caliber of ammo than the Army version. Towards the end of the war, a Navy plane couldn't land at an Army base to get ammo and vice versa.
They didn't have the pilots left too re-estabish air superiority. B & V's high alttitude fighter looked interesting buyt there weren't B29s for them to shoot at and they screwed around while FW had something operational.
This fella talks like the National Socialists weren't Left Wing Socialists. They were, they were in the gnostic cult. Marxism is class based Socialisation of the people. Fascism is Trade Unionism National Socialisation of the people. Nazism is racial and spiritual Socialisation of the people. The Nazis saw the J as the arch capitalists and Capitalists and J were synonymous. These Socialisms are based in Hegelian dialectics and the idea is that through successive struggle they work towards the most refined system of government - which they claim to be perfect democracy for it is the workers who are in control but really it is the State. They seek utopia, their heaven on earth through this praxis of Hegelian dialectical struggling with contradicts between the thesis and antithesis and finding perfect synthesis. It is a 'gnostic faith'. This is ALL SOCIALISM from the Platonic roots and Idealism all the way up. Nazis were SOCIALISTS First visit to this channel, won't back for more distortions.
imagine this with 2-3 30mm in nose with a 37mm and turbosupercharger to deal with B-29s./... and as a raider for shipping convoys. Lot of irrational decisions from my Sunday armchair QB. This and the Kyushu J7W Shinden would have had a drastic effect if they had the fuel and ammo to put in them. Also remember Japan had 87 octane and US had 100 octane and post war testing with US fuel generally got Japanese planes another 20 konts or so and better climb rates.
Not sure if by design, but at 3:47 the video shows Captain Michiro Okuyama and his Giretsu Kuteitai (義烈空挺隊) airborne commando unit depart on their suicide mission to Okinawa on May 24, 1945. It was a plan hatched by the Japanese Army's infamous Kempetai that ultimately led to the creation of this unit in November 1944, with the express purpose of attacking and neutralizing B-29 airfields in the Pacific. On this mission they did manage to destroy and damage a total of 38 aircraft, but not a single B-29 was lost. The story of the Giretsu Kuteitai is revered in Japan and their bravery celebrated every May 24th. There are two memorials to the Giretsu unit in Okinawa.
The heavy fighter didn't go away after WW2. They didn't call them that but the F-4 Phantom fits your definition of heavy fighter exactly. Same with the F-15EX.
Excellent video. Thank you. You get the feeling America had so many 50cals they were running out of things to put them no…”New Refrigerator? Certainly!..Would you like the Single or Double 50cal with that?” 🙂
I would prefer not to hear your speculations and encourage you to stick to facts. As a professional pilot I find your speculations around the forward structures to be preposterous.
The Kawasaki Ki-96 is not the Japanese equivalent of the British de Havilland Mosquito multirole aircraft. It is the Japanese equivalent of the British Westland Whirlwind and the German Focke-Wulf Fw 187 fighters.
I'm no expert on military hardware but you can start to see all kinds of advantages of adding the second engine when you think about it. Armor for one thing. Heavier cannons and just more machine guns in general. More ammunition. Those WW2 fighters didn't have a whole lot of firing time. With a multi role kind of deal you'd probably want to have it carry one of a number of different external options. Maybe external fuel tanks for longer range. Bombs. Torpedos. Rocket launchers. I'm not sure if Japan had any kind of radar or avionics but it must add weight. Honestly I'm surprised these things aren't even more noted for being devastating weapons.
Cool looking aircraft I never saw before. Surprising, to see the rounded cowlings for inline engines? I wonder if the Germans wanted to have the option of a radial engine as well? The drawing of the C model for the 213 showed more streamlined enginge cowls. Thanks!
