Watching this 4y after it was originally posted, but thanks to RU-vid for its algorithms and finally getting it to me as a suggestion. I had the good fortune to meet and spend time with John one evening about 35 or 40 years ago in NY and he is a classy gent and he delighted this young Oz fan with stories and photos from his collection. So it is so great to see him still at it all these years later. So much detail in this interview and a few stories even this Oz fan hadn't heard before. Two very important aspects of the movie I wish had been touched on, however, either asked by the interviewer or perhaps had more time been allotted to audience questions: (a) Frank Morgan who, along with Margaret Hamilton, brought us one of the best (and most underrated) character performances ever in film, especially in the Kansas sequences where he is an absolute master at subtle comedic timing, and (b) the technical aspects of the cyclone/tornado which, without CGI, is still one of the most breathtaking special effects sequences in movie history. But I'm sure somewhere John has talked about both and I'll have to look at more of his interviews on RU-vid. But, overall, great interview and many thanks to Sheen for putting it on.
How inspiring. We love art. I would love to know how we can create a community and spaces for our families to grow in love with art that can convert souls.
Back in the days when LGBT people were and often had to be more closeted, someone could say to another "he/she is a friend of Dorothy," meaning that person was being identified as a fellow member.
The movie was made with a lot of talent and passion with Judy's magic they hit a grand slam. She seemed so genuinely innocent and the witch so truly wicked you couldn't help but feel the fear. This movie borderline traumatized me as kid, but I always kept coming back. I thought Judy was so beautiful.
We still don’t really believe - most of us - that Jesus is human - fully human - It’s just too much I think but the implications of it once we grasp it I think on a large scale as Christians as human beings will change the world
I don’t understand the lack of likes, views, or comments. To hear John Fricke speak about Judy Garland or The Wizard of Oz is time well spent if you love either of the topics.
When I was a little kid I would visit my aunt and she had the Wizard of Oz on beta cassette. They would put it on and I would watch it from start to finish on a loop all day long, I couldn't get enough! Every time we would visit that's all I seemed to look forward to they told me. It's still one of my favorite movies of all time! P.S Cool fun fact : In the movie, Glinda the good witch kisses Dorothy on the forehead before she goes down the yellow brick Road. They don't explain it, but it was for protection. In the book Gindia tells Dorothy that "no one would dare injure a person that was kissed by the good witch of the north"💋
A bit of a side note: I'm reminded of two things which go in a direction other than freedom. One is Matthew Crawford's book "The World Beyond Your Head" which is a practical look at our subjectivizing of the world that separates us from its reality. The other is Francis Schaeffer's book "The God Who Is There" in which he argues that all non-Christian religions and philosophies necessarily are out of accord with reality in some places and which can't thoroughly be "lived in" because of where they clash with what we know deep down of the real world--externally and within ourselves.
This was from the founders Mother Benedict Druss who when in France during WW. II in a Benedictine Convent, experienced the town’s liberation by the arrival of American troops and General Patton, who gave Mother Benedict his USArmy Beret. Before Mother Benedict’s death she passed this beret on to Mother Dolores Hart, who wears it as part of the history of the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudes, established in the United States, as an act of Holy Faith and Gratitude to God, for her being liberated from the siege and captivity in France of WWII. She made this promise to God she Mother Benedict would establish a Benedictine Convent in the U.S. if this liberation were to come about. If you read the story of the founders you will understand. Mother Benedict’s life tells the complete story.
My aunt was a nun for Mother Teresa. She died of pancreatic cancer with the nuns praying around her unceasingly. She had very little pain with a cancer that is very painful. Please pray for Sister Elizabeth (Aunt Deloras)
Loving Rachel’s testimony!! I’m going to share the heck out of this among my Catholic friends: youth ministers (my former vocation), parents, young people and my 40 Days for Life friends, including Shawn Carney (President of 40D4L). Rachel is a delightful speaker, and very gifted as a Catholic speaker and teacher - entertaining, right?! I thought so! I think God may have had this event in mind for her (not to mention her role as wife, mom, etc, etc). I love the way she expresses concepts so beautifully and joyfully. These concepts can seem boring to some - students and adults alike. I hope many people see this, are inspired and motivated to teach with as much obvious love that Rachel has, and of course, inspire vocations, too. As far as Mother, wow!!! I was surprised she would be as inspiring and intriguing to me as Rachel was (having never heard of her before). Thanks, youtube algorithm for dropping this in my “recommended feed”!

This woman is one of the greatest treasures of the contemporary Church. Everything she says on art and spirituality is brilliant, her eloquence and narrative gifts utterly captivating. But one question; how is it possible that someone at the Sheen Center could not figure out how to include the art images in the video? Somewhat of a stunning omission.
